Rescuing an old man....(with picture!)

I already have Lulu (black) & Honey (naughty tortie), both rescues 5 and 4 years old - didn't come in together, I introduced them. I've never ruled out another cat and I saw that local RSPCA (I know they get bad press but my local one is great as is Sarah, who runs it) have saved a lot of Ragdolls from a multi cat household - He is currently called Jasper, he's 10 and his beautiful fur has been cut away to get rid of the matted fur.

My other two are insured, obviously I won't be able to get him insured so will save a bit monthly.

I just want him to able to live out the rest of his years in comfort.

I've never owned a Ragdoll...any advice?

About 3 - but he has the nicest street manners of any cat I've ever known and he really tried hard. All his very best behaviours. Seniorboy was having none of it though.

cozietoesie · 28/02/2017 14:45

I should add that Seniorboy was getting on at that stage - about 17 or so. If he'd been younger, he'd have plaited his hair, sharpened his spears and taken his shield down from the wall ready for battle. Siamese do not like 'interlopers'. If they're feline at any rate.

Bless Seniorboy.
Honey (top cat) is still grumpy and the friction is between her & Jasper.

A little more progress...This wasn't a relaxing situation, but I was very relieved. All in living room and they eventually dozed off Smile

Apologies for poor quality of pic!

That actually looks quite promising.

Jasper is a hairy lad isn't he? Smile

Northumberlandlass · 01/03/2017 08:55

Yes VERY hairy.
I took the FURminator to him this morning while having my morning cuppa - Lulu is more fluffy than hairy so just has a normal brush.
Jasper seems to love being groomed, which is a good thing as I'll be spending a lot of time doing it Grin

He's gorgeous! How are they getting on with each other now?

Weedsnseeds1 · 04/03/2017 20:17

The picture looks like a bit of a Mexican stand off ( supine, naturall, as they are cats), but no actual bloodshed. It's a tentative positive. He's lovelySmile

Northumberlandlass · 06/03/2017 08:18

They are going ok Fizz, thanks! still the odd hiss from the two ladies, but he is so unthreatening and chilled, unless they are in his face he never reacts.
I had two cats on the bed last night Jasper (Captain FluffyButt) and Honey (naughty tortie) so, things are looking up.

Weeds - absolute stand off! But lack of blood is positive Smile

Here is today's cute photo of the Captain.

We do have an issue Sad - he is sneezing loads & one is his eyes waters (looks like tears), plus he 'pffts' (not a sneeze, almost like he is clearing his throat). Going to take him to my vets to register & will get him checked out. Hope it's nothing awful.

It sounds as though he has flu. Are your other two fully vaccinated?

Northumberlandlass · 06/03/2017 08:28

Yes - the other two are all up to date with injections. Will the Capt be ok? Should I contact RSPCA centre & let them know? His sneezing started a few days after I collected him.

cozietoesie · 06/03/2017 13:10

I'd let them know - just in case they have the start of a cat flu in the centre. Fingers crossed though. Smile

cozietoesie · 06/03/2017 13:13

He is just a gorgeous lad. Smile

Northumberlandlass · 06/03/2017 14:28

I have an appt at Vets later & will call centre.
Thanks Smile
He's adorable Cozie - the most un-cat-like cat I've ever met!

The trouble with flu is that there's more than one variety of virus - vaccinations cater for the main ones but a virus can mutate and a version linger. My own Seniorboy has 'residual' flu which started to manifest when he was about 17 or 18 and his immune system started to go. We'e managed though - with AB use for any opportunistic infections - so it's not any sort of 'sentence'. Smile

tabbymog · 06/03/2017 16:00

He's absolutely gorgeous, I want one! My tabby teddy bear would be o.k, but my black badass boy would go ballistic. They're happy together, they bonded at Cats Protection, but I wouldn't introduce a third much as I'd love one.

In your first photo is that a tabby tail disappearing under your right armpit?

Northumberlandlass · 08/03/2017 10:29

Well, Vets said that it is likely coming from a multi cat household that they all have Cat Flu, that in times of stress it will rear it's head. Said if his eyes get sore she will write up some drops & I can take him into bathroom when I shower to steam him!
If it lingers for a few more weeks, take him back.
However, this wasn't the shocking news...he isn't 10. He's 5 max!!! The RSPCA said he was 10 because the mother of the woman who abandoned them said he was....

The vet even called the other partner in for a second opinion who said 3 or 4. So possibly younger than my other two!

He is an absolute sweetheart & such a snuggler.

cozietoesie · 08/03/2017 12:27

Yes. Stress can bring on symptoms. Maybe see how he gets on over the next few days/week?

Lots of luck to the lad. The young lad. Smile

cozietoesie · 08/03/2017 13:52

It occurred to me. If your vet will go on the record about his age, you should let your insurance company know the revised details. Smile

Northumberlandlass · 08/03/2017 14:03

Oh yes! Excellent thought. Thanks Cozie Smile

He's lovely! Ah, ten is nothing these days. I've told the girls they must live to at least 20 Grin.

Cat agility! Zara is far too dumb for that. Bibi would slap me with claw for the suggestion.
