Rescuing an old man....(with picture!)

I already have Lulu (black) & Honey (naughty tortie), both rescues 5 and 4 years old - didn't come in together, I introduced them. I've never ruled out another cat and I saw that local RSPCA (I know they get bad press but my local one is great as is Sarah, who runs it) have saved a lot of Ragdolls from a multi cat household - He is currently called Jasper, he's 10 and his beautiful fur has been cut away to get rid of the matted fur.

My other two are insured, obviously I won't be able to get him insured so will save a bit monthly.

I just want him to able to live out the rest of his years in comfort.

I've never owned a Ragdoll...any advice?

So he's to be DS's boy? Smile

Northumberlandlass · 23/02/2017 13:22

DS is besotted! I hope he bonds well with him - the other 2 aren't really bothered with DS, despite his efforts. Every evening he kisses them good night & has a chat, they just give him that look!!

He's gorgeous. Good luck with getting him settled! I'm envious Smile

cozietoesie · 23/02/2017 13:27

He (the cat) looks like he might be a bit of a soft pudding if given half a chance.

Good luck to all. Smile

Northumberlandlass · 23/02/2017 13:31

Thanks all Smile
Don't be surprised if more pics follow!

My cat is 13 and I just got her - getting insurance was no problem, loads of companies offer it.

winchesterfan · 23/02/2017 14:24

I've got Ragdolls, so if you've any questions about the breed, feel free to pm me

Northumberlandlass · 23/02/2017 14:40

Oh thank you Winch - that's very kind of you Smile

Reassurance needed...Picked Jasper up on Saturday afternoon & kept him in DS room with food/water/litter tray etc.

Other cats could smell him & were a little alert.

Turns out Jasper is THE friendliest cat in the world, within 10 mins was under the duvet with DS, licking him, head bumping, kneading, lying on his head. He is an absolute joy.

Fast forward a few hours and DS announces he can't sleep with Jasper in his room as he won't leave him alone. We then moved everything & Jasper into the kitchen - he briefly met other cats.

Jasper did not react at all, Honey (Tortie - bossy) hissed & arched. Lulu (Black timid fluffball) started swaying her head side to side. I woke at 5am Sunday to Jasper crying (it's like having a baby).

Supervised introductions - Jasper not bothered, Lulu now in hiding & hasn't eaten since he arrived and Honey on full hiss mode, which Jasper must have had enough of as he then growled. Honey backed down...

This morning Jasper (bold happy self) came into the kitchen. The other two usually follow me & get fed then sit around me, no sign of Lulu anywhere - Honey came down & sat and stared.

I'm worried Sad Any wise words / advice, apart from 'Give it time' - it took a good couple of months for Lulu & Honey to be able to be near each other, but Lulu has come out of her shell in last 6 months & I don't want her to suffer Sad

I'd keep them separate for a few days or even weeks rather than putting them all in together.

or send him here

Northumberlandlass · 27/02/2017 13:53

That's the issue Lottie, If I had a spare room I would. My house only has 5 rooms & that includes the bathroom! Although DS is at his Dad's tonight so I could put him in his room. The other 2 have access to all rooms.

When I brought Honey home, I tried to keep them separate but Honey Houdini can open doors, so they mixed straight away!

Jasper isn't aggressive at all, isn't chasing or hissing, he only growled when challenged.

He's gorgeous! Mine lived to 21 so you never know!

He still looks fit and perky.

Olympiathequeen · 27/02/2017 14:10

Ragdolls are the worlds friendliest cats and don't realise they are cats, they think they're human. They love people too much sometimes and want to cuddle all the time.

They have no sense of danger so can't be let out anywhere they can escape from. They will lie in the road and wonder what that huge thing hurtling towards them is! So they need indoor litter trays. I have an enclosed run in the garden but they walk on a lead sometimes. They can be huge. Mr pickles is! They also flop all over the place so watch where you walk in the dark.

I am sure your other cats will get used to him because there isn't a nasty, competitive bone in their body.

Northumberlandlass · 27/02/2017 14:20

Olympia - he has already tripped us up twice, just laying down at our feet for strokes in the kitchen Grin

My two are both house cats, which is why I took Jasper (he has never been out) - I think the size is possibly intimidating Lulu. He is much bigger than they are.

Someone had said they were more like dogs, he follows us around. DS reckons he could do dog agility with him Smile. He is genuinely the most lovely natured cat!

Cat agility isn't unheard of, actually...

Lancelottie · 27/02/2017 16:48

That's not my cat, by the way. Mine would flick her tail at you in a rude gesture if you suggested anything so cooperative.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/02/2017 17:17

Mine has a "fuck you mommy" tail flick too 😹

He's a beautiful boy.

Kiroro · 27/02/2017 17:22

He looks beautiful! Hope they integrate OK.

Cat agility isn't unheard of, actually...

I do my own secret version of cat agility when i'm dragging the dead bird (feather toy on wand) around the house for kitten to jump on. He doesn't know he is doing cat agility but I have a course worked out in my head and am getting to him improve every day :-)

Northumberlandlass · 28/02/2017 08:27

Slight progress this morning - all three in the kitchen for breakfast. Lulu still hasn't eaten though Sad but she came & sat on the table. Few hisses & growls, no reaction from Jasper.

Honey & Jasper are now crapping in each others trays ...and Jasper likes sitting in Honey's tray Shock

Northumberlandlass · 28/02/2017 08:28

Cat agility...I'll work on it! He put his paws around DP neck last night and put his cheek next to his. Cat cuddles!
I'm lucky if I get a head bump from the other two!

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 28/02/2017 12:59

So. They might be adjusting?

Northumberlandlass · 28/02/2017 13:56

Yes Cozie - adjusting! I have a tension headache..Jasper got sick of being hissed at this morning & went for Honey. Who then stropped off & ate Jaspers food Shock
I do actually also feel guilty for disrupting Lulu & Honey's lives and feeling pathetic

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 28/02/2017 14:03

They're improving though and that's a positive sign. Smile (Seniorboy's behaviour with regard to The Lodger was actually deteriorating - and that was after a lloooonnnngggg time.)

Northumberlandlass · 28/02/2017 14:23

The stress of cats...how old was the Lodger when you introduced them?
I'm late home tonight and hoping I don't get back to find fur & blood or that Honey & Lulu have plotted my demise!
