Her siblings sleep with their slaves but I can't cope with her trampling all over me. I do feel mean but I work three nights a week I feed her when I get home at 9 am and play for her for half an hour that's all I can give her I repeat the processe on the evening before I go to work it's just for about two hours she gets herself out of the kitchen and into my room. I have my eye mask on and she will dive bomb me out of nowhere then pull my hair it's terrifying!!! Goes on for about an hour until I give her loads of treats and barricade my door. Any tips? When I'm not at work we have lovely times together and she actually goes to bed at 10 and I do t see her again until I get up. I can't expect her to work shifts like me. She's growing beautifully and the vet said she's the most sociable kitten she's ever met its just my sleep I need it when I'm working.

She's still very tiny so you might find she grows out of it. My boy sleeps well other than a manic hour (normally between 4-5am just before my alarm goes off 😡). It is important that you get enough sleep though so I'd try putting a box with one of your tshirts (unwashed) and a blanket down somewhere else.

To be honest I'm fairly sure SmokingCat just likes to check I'm still alive (by sniffing and batting my face) just to make sure he gets breakfast in the morning Grin

She has so many toys my sister says shes the child i never had!

YANBU! I love my dcats to bits, and am their willing slave during the day, but at night they stay downstairs.
Though tbf I wouldn't mind letting them up if they actually did sleep, rather than tear round the house, jump off of furniture and headbutt me!

Hopefully your dcat will grow out of fussing to come in after a while.

bluebellsparklypants · 16/09/2016 23:31

I don't mean to sound mean but if you take on an animal they are going to want to spend time with you, to them your their family unit & they're lonely on their own. I personal wouldn't get a pet if I know I couldn't give them time

MyKingdomForBrie · 16/09/2016 23:39

OP rescued a cat and is only short of time for her when on night shifts - how the fuck would it have been better for the cat to go to the RSPCA who would put it down if not adopted??? Seriously. Ridiculous criticism.

Op you're not weird, I shut my two out of the bedroom once I'm ready to go to sleep, as long as they have snuggly other places to sleep they don't care! She will get used to your routine as she gets older.

My kitten was a nightmare when I got him, he was a rescue cat so in a Catery for 6 months so haven't been told what was acceptable. He jumped up on everything as he wasn't used to a house , wanted to be in my bed but up half the night ! I was really tough with him, and used a water spray if he did anything I was unhappy about, he sleeps in the kitchen now when he isn't out. he's a year now and a very loving well behaved cat.

LanaorAna1 · 17/09/2016 00:00

Persevere - co-sleeping with a kitty will give you the best night's sleep you've ever had.

Now, at first the stamping, staring, thunking and snatch-and-spin duvet robbery may be a little off-putting, but ride it and soon you will be rewarded with a purry bundle of warmth and happiness. Which lasts 10 min. Before the process is repeated, with added snoring and sleep-fighting -and-biting ninja moves, for 8 hours.

After 7 years sleeping every night with a vast tabby, my definition of a 'good night' may not be identical to that of others, but I wouldn't swap it for anything. Morning snuggles are the best.

EachandEveryone · 17/09/2016 00:20

Surely we all have to go to work? I dont understand the judging by some people? Ive just gone into the kitchen to get a drink and she never even woke up from her cushion. I work three nights a week for two weeks. Shes not neglected just wants tobe in my bed when i get home and i cant sleep when shes all over me. My vet said she'll grow out of it.

I'd disagree on the morning snuggles. Nothing beats a Sunday afternoon snooze in colder weather with a warm duvet and a warm cat. Smile

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 17/09/2016 01:37

Yes, YABU.

Kittens sleep down the front of your pyjamas top.

Everyone knows that rule.

Hmm
ScarletForYa · 17/09/2016 08:20

I don't shut her in the shed. The door is held ajar with a brick. She can come and go as she likes. She was a feral cat so the shed is a five star hotel to her.

Chinnygirl · 17/09/2016 08:33

We don't sleep with our cats because we don't want to.'there is occasional digging at the door once a week that we ignore. They get lots if cuddles and attention during the day.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/09/2016 09:41

I don't get the judging either. Cats have to fit in with our routine.

Branleuse · 17/09/2016 09:45

i think maybe get another cat so shes got company when youre at work, and then she wont be as needy when youre trying to sleep. Two cats are better than one. Its less work

EachandEveryone · 17/09/2016 12:00

I cant afford two cats!

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 17/09/2016 12:01

I live in London in a flat not ideal for two.

OP posts:
Branleuse · 17/09/2016 13:13

well if you cant afford two cats, and its being kept in a flat on its own, then youre going to have to get used to it needing your company. Theyre not toys you can just get out when you want a play

EachandEveryone · 17/09/2016 14:07

Whatever. Shes sat on my knee now with my flatmate sat on the other sofa and the neigbours popped in to borrow the hoover and has said anytime she wants her to feed her she will do it. She has a key. Dont mske me feel guilty about my lifestyle. My cat is not neglected. I work three nights a week. Its quite normal for a nurse.

My cats used to sleep downstairs together. Unfortunately Barnaby was run over and I felt sorry for Troy so allowed him to sleep wherever he wanted. He would sleep on my bed but fussed so much during the night I made him sleep downstairs on his own which he accepted.

When Troy became ill with heart failure I let him sleep on my bed again and he still fussed during the night but I wanted him near me. He would sleep on my pillow above my head and during sleep I would hold his paw. He died 4 months ago and I miss the paw holding and his lovely furriness.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/09/2016 16:39

Morning snuggles are the best thing ever!

bluebellsparklypants · 17/09/2016 18:08

Troysmammy Flowers
(holding his little paw aww your a good cat mummy)

Op you did put the question out there...we can't always all agree on the rights and wrongs

Just do what you can for the best for yourself and your kitty

EachandEveryone · 17/09/2016 18:22

It makes me wonder about the millions of cat owners in places like NYC aren't they good enough either living in flats n all. It's perfectly normal all over the world.

I just don't like her sleeping with me but when the kitten stage is over it migh be completely different.

rhiaaaaaaaannon · 17/09/2016 18:31

I don't think you're horrible. Those criticising seem to be focusing on the times when you work the 3 days, what about the days you're not at work?

I've never liked my cats sleeping on my bed and they're just fine. I used to put them in the kitchen but now they're a lot older they've learnt not to bother me at bedtime

neveradullmoment99 · 17/09/2016 18:36

I would never ever have my cat sleep in my bed. Yuk!

FuzzyWizard · 17/09/2016 18:49

My cat is completely pampered. She really does get a huge amount of time and attention. She's fed well and brushed twice daily. She's shut out of my bedroom at night though. She has the run of several rooms just not my bedroom. She couldn't care less. I also work full time. I think your cat will be just fine. Don't feel bad.
