Is there some kind of cat law...

That states that if your unwitting human foolishly stocks up on your favourite wet food after spotting it on offer (and almost breaks their back lugging two packs of twelve cans home), you must immediately reject it when it's lovingly placed in front of you?

Yes.

HTH

YesItsMeIDontCare · 13/07/2016 15:33

Yes. Yes it is.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 13/07/2016 15:34

There was a lovely cartoon I saw years ago to this effect. The caption was something along the lines of:

"The human's stocked up on my favourite food. Dammit! That means I can never eat it again!"

Funny, but oh so true!

drinkyourmilk · 13/07/2016 15:34

Absolutely. This inferior food may well come back into favour once it has either a) been donated elsewhere or b) has gone out of date.

elpaso · 13/07/2016 15:46

Ah. Would it work if I tried to fool them by looking at pack and exclaiming "Oh no! This food has gone past it's recommended best before date! I must throw it away at once!" and see if they come running then? Or does it actually have to have expired, and they need to wittness me actually physically throw the food away?'

WeirdAndPissedOff · 13/07/2016 15:50

Can you pretend it isn't theirs, and that they're not allowed it? That sometimes works. Grin

InsufficientlyCaffeinated · 13/07/2016 15:54

You need to put it on a plate for you to eat and then leave it by your side for a brief moment and tell the cat very firmly not to touch it, then they'll eat it

elpaso · 13/07/2016 15:58

Hmmm. Might give that a try. No doubt they will want me to actually eat a mouthful before they try to steal it though...

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/07/2016 19:02

Yes. Economy packs are not economical.

Put it outside on the patio for them. Mine will eat anything if he thinks ginger ninja will have it.

OnesieTheQueensSelfie · 13/07/2016 20:39

Yep. Also any treats have to be stolen straight off your dinner plate. Put it in cat bowl and it's rubbish apparently Hmm

OnesieTheQueensSelfie · 13/07/2016 20:41

Sorry, sorry, just caught up with the thread! BlushGrin

OnesieTheQueensSelfie · 13/07/2016 20:42

Great minds though and all that, eh? Cats are the great mind, human's try to think alike...

OnesieTheQueensSelfie · 13/07/2016 20:44

*have not are. Dammit!

TobleroneBoo · 13/07/2016 20:48

Mine have just done this Angry

SlinkyVagabond · 13/07/2016 20:58

Mine doesn't believe food that he hasn't witnessed being put out exists.
After my Macky had to be pts I decided that the nice pouches would be ok for Billy as he only eats two a day. No, he turns his nose up. The git.

elpaso · 14/07/2016 10:57

Both still refusing their food and giving me "Why hast thou forsaken me?" looks? Even tried warming it up for them...I'm going to have to cave in and buy a different brand aren't I?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 14/07/2016 11:30

I'm afraid so. Grin

I've lost count of the number of boxes/pouches that have had to go to neighbours/the local rescue etc etc. He always suckers me.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/07/2016 12:53

Battersea sent me a thank you note after the last donation - there was so much it wouldn't fit in their cat food bin!

NeedACleverNN · 14/07/2016 12:57

I must admit I have never experienced this. Cats eat what I give them.

I appear to have a gannet in stead of a cat.

Toots will eat everything. Even pulling a ham sandwich and devouring it, bread and all

cozietoesie · 14/07/2016 13:09

Seniorboy used to be better when he was young, I have to admit. It's only now he's very elderly that he's really picky about his food.

Well done, Pink. Smile I was actually going to give the last lot to the local foodbank (many people who use them having pets also) but it was nabbed first.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/07/2016 13:12

I'm
Feeling smug as my cats have specialist breed good and have never ever turned their nose up at it. Gourmet cat soup they are not impressed by, once they've drank the juice they don't want the delicate cuts of finest chicken.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/07/2016 13:36

You've fucked it now Toddler. Like when I said asbo didn't mind his milbemax pill.

WellWhoKnew · 14/07/2016 13:46

I have four, four! different brands on the go at any time, all fish flavoured as nothing else is ever acceptable. On any given day, any number between one and four will be unacceptable.

I am starving them as far as they are concerned.

My vet has warned me that the cat formerly called the Skinny One is now officially fat. Though the Fat one is now normal weight.

"What cat food are you feeding them?" has my hands around her neck.

cozietoesie · 14/07/2016 14:00

Yes indeed, Toddler. You now have only a very short time before they walk away from their bowls in seeming disgust. Grin

I take it that the Milbemax pill is now regarded as an instrument of the Devil, Fluffy ?

Sephipops · 14/07/2016 14:07

It's even worse if it's prescription food. Thankfully my cat no longer requires that, so we're back to ignoring the normal food and eating plastic bags (because plastic is super nutritious)
