Cat needs eye removal :-(

So, he's half wild, as in, never in, we live in the country and he makes the most of that.

Came home after school run this morning and he's on the doorstep with what looked like a prolapsed eye ball.

Took him straight in, and it's a cat scratch, through the cornea, with all innards coming out, and infected.

So he is on strong antibiotics until Friday morning, when he's having his eye out.

Has anyone experienced any of this? He's only just crapped in the litter tray after yowling the whole day to be let out.

He'll be OK won't he? He's got diarrhoea, and has been sick :( :( :(

Saucer instead of bowl for feeding? Glad he's home.

FurryLittleTwerp · 24/06/2016 22:12

When my two were neutered, the smaller cat couldn't eat or drink with the collar, so I cut off about an inch all the way round, making it smaller, so she could manage.

You could try this, as long as he can't get his paws around the edge to his face.

timtam23 · 24/06/2016 22:48

Aww poor thing with the collar, I must admit we took my cat's one off for feeding as he got so distressed banging it against the floor. Cutting it down a bit would probably help. Glad he got through the op OK.

Costacoffeeplease · 25/06/2016 00:09

It's best to stick with the collar if you can, they do get used to manoeuvring round it quite quickly and is better than stressing them out taking it on and off

He'll be fine

BastardGoDarkly · 25/06/2016 08:35

Yeah, I'm leaving the collar on, he's the wriggliest cat known to man, and struggling with him to get it back on would make him sore I'm sure.

I've been holding his dish while he eats and drinks, so it's workable for now.

I'm not sure about trimming it either, the vet said if infection gets into the hole it will get in his brain, as that's all that's back there now Confused

I've got tickets for a festival next weekend, my neighbour usually comes and feeds him, I'm not sure right now if I can go, I'll see how he is.

How often are you feeding the wee scrap? Smile

Costacoffeeplease · 25/06/2016 09:02

She went 5 hours last night Smile but during the day anywhere from 2-4 hours. She's really upped the milk intake in the last few days, growing well, and is pooing very regularly, so that's good.

One of my previous bottle fed kittens was a nightmare to try and squeeze a poo out of - took forever

Costacoffeeplease · 25/06/2016 09:05

Either that's an old photo or she's got her eyes shut in milk heaven Smile

They actually opened earlier this week

Little button nose!!

Costacoffeeplease · 25/06/2016 09:15
Smile

When she arrived her nose was bright red like an old winoGrin she came to the right placeGrin

cozietoesie · 25/06/2016 09:25

I find pink bits so cute. Most all the cats here have had brown everything (noses, paw pads etc) so pink is always a novelty for me. Smile

Costacoffeeplease · 25/06/2016 09:50

Her legs look like she has ballet tights on Smile

BastardGoDarkly · 25/06/2016 10:06

Awwwww she's adorable! How did you end up hand rearing her?

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 25/06/2016 10:09

She and her brother were found abandoned, still with cords attached. I saw a post on fb late at night asking for help, and as I had been hand rearing another one who sadly didn't make it, I had some milk and offered to take them. The couple who found them drove from about half an hour away with them in a shoe box, arriving around 11.30pm - that was two weeks ago on Thursday.

Sadly her brother died after 4 days - very unexpectedly, as he appeared to be the bigger, stronger one - so little girly fights on alone

Costacoffeeplease · 25/06/2016 10:10

I'm not in the uk, and it's not unusual to find abandoned kittens and puppies - all our animals are rescues that we, or other people, have literally picked up off the street, including our two dogs

Wolfiefan · 25/06/2016 10:10

She's beautiful. Wishing her and Bastardcat all the best.
(We need a dreamies emoji!)

Healed nicely :) shame he had a scrap as soon as he stepped out tonight. Neighbours have just got a big black and white cat, ours hasn't seen it yet, as he's been in, met him now though

Naughty boy! Unfortunately it takes a few weeks to get rid of all the hormones - hopefully he'll calm down a bit in time

Good it's healed up well though!

BastardGoDarkly · 05/07/2016 20:44

How's your black and white bundle of loveliness doing Costa ?

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 05/07/2016 20:57

She's doing well - we've had a few wees in the litter tray, and she's started playing with toys and grooming herself. She's 4 weeks on Thursday so weaning will be the next thing Smile

Awwww she's so tiny 😊

She looks great though, bet you'll be glad when you're through the demand feeding stage Grin

Costacoffeeplease · 05/07/2016 21:12

I took her to the vet last week, just to let her see her (she's also a very good friend) and she weighed her at 400 grams!

She's going from 11.30/midnight to 5/5.30 now so it's not so bad - and I'm usually awake then anyway (the joys of being 50!)

She's taking so much more milk that I think she'll soon be ready for something more solid - she's also got tiny, but razor sharp, teeth now Smile

HustleVandango · 05/07/2016 21:20

Bastard I rehomed this absolute beaut two years ago - lost his eye when he was bullied by other cats in previous home - and while his depth perception is a bit wonky (nosedive into water bowl) he is otherwise fine and healthy. He is very territorial though, so we keep him in at night to minimise fighting. Please excuse how blue he is, he was rolling in chalk
