Found a stray kitten

Dd found a stray kitten, she doesn't yet know I'm going to pick hers up today at 5pm.

She found the kitten in a box at the bus stop and has watched it for a couple of hours before deciding to take it to the vets. She has got her wormed and flead and bought litter, trays, food and toys. Very proud of dd for being so responsible but do we keep the kitten?would I be unfair not to let her keep this kitten as I've already arranged a surprise kitty for her X

I've slept with my Siamese boys since I was knee high. (Kitten and cat both.) it seems entirely natural to me. Smile (Not that I would have had much choice in the matter either way, bed being their natural habitat.)

cozie Dd loves cuddling her in bed but she won't sleep through the night. Maybe it's because she's not used to her surroundings yet?

We don't let our cats in the bedroom at night. It's hard if they come in when we're getting ready for bed and snuggle, but we get plenty of cuddles during the day - night time is for sleeping!

Siamese do sleep through, I grant you - it's in the breed and, arguably, not wholly unconnected to their poorer night vision than other cats. (They also just lurrvv to be with their person, all warm, loving and cuddling, so will seize nearly every opportunity to do it in my experience. I started the ritual of a Sunday afternoon snooze in our house and if we miss it for some reason, it's the cats that become ratty. Grin)

Our non-Siamese have been just a little more challenging, though, particularly at the kitten stage, but I guess we've just laid out our stall very clearly. Any person or cat who tries to get me to interact before cockcrow takes their life in their hands and the cats come to know this routine. (They have their trays, food and water of course so that if they want anything physical like that in the wee small hours, they can obtain it.) Even The Lodger accepted it (and the nighttime curfew) pretty well without quibble after bringing himself up on the streets. Mind you, after cockcrow is then fair game - I wouldn't even contemplate missing out on breakfast when asked at a reasonable time of the morning!

Do you think she'd be a Top Cat in your household and capable of setting a clear routine? You may have to just endure the PITA kitten stage - and you have two as well, so they can wind each other up - but if the household can lay down the rules, you all should be OK in the fullness of time, I'd hope.

anotheremma we just can't resist the cuddles at night.

cozie Silouhette was very good at sleeping through the night. I think we are going to have to ignore Missy when she tries to wake us up,maybe she'll get the point. They have access to litter trays, their own beds if they choose to use them Grin and food at night and each other to lay with. No reason to get us up

Thank you chillycurtains . Your user name has just reminded me to maybe consider getting blinds Blush the kittens have already pulled down the curtains in dds room

I recall trying to give Twoago a nice comfy bed when he first arrived. He thought it was ever such a good game getting in and out.

Before he became tired and headed to bed proper to sleep that was! Grin

Lovely kittens, op, and well done to your dad.
Just wanted to say be careful if you get blinds. Our cat loves looking out of the window but when he was about four months old he managed to get one of his back paws caught around the little plastic decorative loopy thing at the bottom of the blind and was dangling upside down. Luckily we were in the same room but he scratched and bit me as I frantically untangled him. I dread to think what might have happened if we had been out...

I seem to recall Lone remarking once on injuries her practice had had to deal with for indoor cats. With kittens, you have - sort of - a toddler who can also jump and climb so best to look fairly critically at your surroundings for possible hazards.

Cozie I think your Siamese and my half Siamese are different, I am very much his person but he hates snuggles and only does it on his terms, he is in no way, shape or form a lap cat!

He also adores my mum who sometimes comes in a few times a week to check on him, have tea and garden for me (I hate gardening!) my mum and he I think would be perfect for each other.

He's not keen on flatmate (but likes listening to us talk and finds us anywhere we do it for companionship?!), he puts up with intern/male worker but week before last one of my brothers mates stayed for the week on the sofa (we have a 2.5 bedroom flat) as he was working, Felix wasn't keen on him at all, sniffed his bike, was quite scared and went off his food and got depressed, I took him to vet who diagnosed depression and gave serotonin but he only had one tablet and is now calm!

Anyway OP sorry for derailing the thread! Smile

Your kittens are gorgeous and really well done to your DD for rescuing and dealing with the abandoned one! Are they both males? Will you shorten Silhouette to "Sil" to make it easier to call him/her?!

Report
cozietoesie · 30/04/2016 10:19

That half of 'something else' may make all the difference.

If he were a full Siamese, I'd be guessing that you were an 'OK to be going on with' family member but that his 'real person' was in fact your mother. (And watching with interest what happened if, for example, she stayed the night.)

As a halfer, though - Who can tell? Smile

Thank you all , we have gone round kitty proofing the house. They are both girls . Silhouette has been shortene down to Sil already as its a bit of a mouthful but ds wanted to call her that Hmm. Dd choose Missy for the kitten she rescued because she has a tiny bit of white fur above her mouth and she thinks it's like a moustache Grin

I buy ours dog beds, cat beds are too small and not as well padded.

On YouTube there's lots of videos sleeping in the dogs bed while the poor dog shivers on the floor.

Re nigh times : we got a medium dog cage for our cat when she was a kitten and we put her in it every night with a litter tray and a bed. She doesn't mind it - she's 4 now and will happily go in there herself at bedtime. Smile would that work for you?

Ohhh my God, how beautiful is that picture??
I'm the proud owner of a foundling kitty. Olive was 4 weeks old and I heard her mewing outside in the pissing rain. Ran outside, saw this tiny little thing moving by the roadside. Took her in and had a few weeks of having to nip home at lunchtime from work and syringe feed her. It was absolutely worth it though! Foundling kittens are especially loving, I find! Grin

My kitten and grown-up cat who thinks she's a kitten ripped through my nets to the extent that they looked like Miss Haversham's wedding dress, and passers-by were stopping on the pavement and pointing. I was worried about the strings on blinds, so have ordered slatted shutters at huge expense! Can't wait for them to be installed, as it means I'll be able to have the front room windows open without them getting out (busy road, so indoor cats).

New dog bed. He's happy but trying to be cool about it. He's not moved though while I've hoovered up and dh has been using power tools.

Need they really do win hearts over X did your kitten settle in well?

Thank you draenor 4 weeks old,the poor thing. She's very lucky to have you find her!

cescine French username Wink? We've managed to put dd's curtains back up. The nets in the living room are already started to get ripped. After what I've been told,I don't think I want blinds. Me thinks I'm going to have someone over to fit slatted shutters tooEnvy.

fluffy how gorgeous is he! Someone's enjoying their bed.

I can't check but to who suggested a routine because my phone is being attacked by kittens as I type Grin . Was it you fluffy? They both slept through the night. Silhouette stayed in her bed all night and has only just woken up and Missy decided to go into dd's bed in the early hours of the morning but didn't wake her up this timeGrin. Ds has got a special bond with Sil ,he's deffo a kitten lover and since Dd found Missy; she won't stop following her aroundWink
