My cat has died tonight

I had a call from the vet about an hour ago. My lovely boy cat James was hit by a car.

I can't stop crying. I can't believe he won't come home again. I keep listening out for the cat flap. It hurts so much.

Goodness - that's barely middle-aged! (And she's just lovely.)

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/03/2016 14:17

Good grief.

SecretWitch · 27/03/2016 14:19

So sorry for the loss of your boy :(.

What a lovely new addition to your family! She is gorgeous! Blessings for many happy years together..xx

tippy

There are people who've posted here who have lost cats under a year old to illness. My last boy appeared to be in rude health at 8 years old and then suddenly dropped dead one sunny morning. My current boy came to me at about 14 and is still with us - happy if a little frail - some 7 years later.

There may well be 'likelihoods' but there's rarely certainty with cats.

I hope you all have a great life together. Smile

8 years is no age for a cat. So pleased to hear that you have given a very loving home to a cat who was in desperate need of it. I hope she rewards you with many years of companionship. I completely understand not being able to live without a cat - I have 3!

Vinorosso74 · 27/03/2016 15:34

She's lovely and certainly not old!

tippytap · 28/03/2016 08:06

Thanks Vino,

She's very loving and desperate to go outside!

Agh sorry still getting used to this. Sorry to read about James Sad
But glad you have new cat friend Smile

cozietoesie · 28/03/2016 08:43

It's great isn't it, Broke ? And such a lovely girl. Smile

cozietoesie · 28/03/2016 08:47

Well my old boy has just made a decent breakfast. ( And at 21, I reckon I'm allowed to call him old. I'm afraid your new girl is just a youngster, tippy. Grin)

FluffyWuffyBunnies · 28/03/2016 08:54

I'm very sorry to hear about James. We lost a cat last year the same way and we were heartbroken, it's such a terrible shock.

Our oldest cat lived until he was 17yrs so 8yrs seems no age!

Maybe once Jessie is settled in you could (maybe next year) think about getting kittens too. We found one older one with a pair of kittens worked really well. When we got kittens with our oldest cat, I swear it gave him a new lease of life! They loved him too, especially the girl kitten and they would sleep cuddled together. Also, kittens are less threatening to an established older cat. We were advised to get two though so that they could play with each other and not constantly annoy the older cat Wink

Fluffy, don't tempt me!

There are so many cats out there needing a home. Maybe one isn't enough. 😀

Xx

Not for me, I'm afraid. I recall my mother acquiring a pair of kittens - littermates - when Firstcat was mature but youngish. Unfortunately, they 'ganged up' on him and Firstcat being an abject coward, he turned tail and ran. It wasn't a good situation.

It probably depends very much on the cats. Maybe you'll know more about her character when she's been living with you for a bit.
