How many cats does everyone have?

I'm hoping I'm not the only 'cat lady' out there. We have just gone down to 10, unfortunately lost one of our girls before Christmas.

Just two. A brother and sister whom we got from Celia Hammond last year, after our lovely young single cat died very suddenly.
They are typical siblings love each other one minute, then a brief play fight the next!

Two. Would have (lots!) more, but only have a 2 bed flat.

Vinorosso74 · 18/01/2016 10:22

Sugarplum love that photo of all your cats eating together!
We just have the one, financially I don't think we could afford more and we also have a smallish flat. I certainly wouldn't bring a new cat in now as I don't think she would be impressed.

We are very lucky in that our cats all very sociable, especially after the children are in bed, DH and I have to fight to get a seat on the sofa. All 10 will sleep in the living room, usually 9 on the sofas and Lennon under the table.

Financially, pet insurance is the way forward, the 1,200 bill we got when our suru had a blocked bladder proved that

one. Learned my lesson after getting siblings which were very sociable, never fought, slept together etc, started pissing all over the house in an attempt to mark territory. Blamed it on local cats stressing them, getting through the cat flap, but no, they were marking because two cats in a smallish house means there's not enough space for them to each have their "own" areas. Had to rehome one.

Would love loads, but unless we move to a big house in the country not going to happen.

One white and ginger boy, who's currently lying on my chest whilst I'm watching tv. He doesn't leave my side much, ever, but especially when I'm not well.

Lovely pics of all the cats!

I'm currently down to five, we started with just the one years ago, then an ill stray turned up that we had to pts shortly afterwards with kidney failure, then another stray that we had for about five years, then a pregnant feral who is now a housecat and we kept one of her kittens, and then another three abandoned cats turned up!

sugarplumfairy28 · 18/01/2016 15:35

Oh what a handsome boy you have there Ginger.

Sounds like the cats know you're the local safe place Fenneltea

I do feel the urge to have more, we had 9 which was 6 girls and 3 boys and I wanted to even the numbers out, so we were up to 11, 6 girls and 5 boys. Then loosing our Narla made it 5 each. Somehow loosing just one cat does make the whole house seemed emptier.

Our Suru is the most gentle and affectionate soppy thing we have, the night before Narla died he knowingly sat with her, and just started ripping his fur out, turns out he is super sensitive and the stress of her dying has caused him enormous emotional stress. He is nearly bald from the rib cage back. Thankfully he has stopped pulling it out now, but it's going to take a lot of love and time for him to go back to normal. Oddly he takes a lot of comfortable from our newest 2 boys, who are 6 months old and not related to him at all. DH does still want a sphinx though.

There are 14 on the payroll at the moment. I took in a small ginger female who turned out to be pregnant so I now have a houseful of ginger boys and a beautiful tortie girl.

Over the last 20 years we have usually had 3 cats at anyone time. Having had to PTS our gorgeous girl 18 months ago we are down to two. We have two gorgeous fluffy ginger and white boys, Archie and Angus. They are adorable and we love them to pieces but one of them is a bugger for ripping my carpets and the other one is a real hunter so lots of dead bodies in the morning. Hubby says we are not allowed to have any more cats as two are enough. We'll see .........

Two sisters who keep forgetting they're sisters and are constantly surprised to see each other round the house (after 14 years) Grin

We just have the 2, Johnny & Roxi, both rescue cats. I would love more if they would actually go out & not need to use a litter tray. They do go out into our yard, but no further. No idea why, the CPL home check lady said the other side of our wall is "cat heaven" but they obviously think otherwise Confused

Black girl Roxi came first after our lovely ancient old Maine Coon died. We had gone to CPL looking for a pair, but Roxi wouldn't let DD passed her pen & that was it, she came home with us - 2 weeks in, she hated both DD & I & decided that she was DHs cat - she luffs DH very much though. She has got better with us over the years & I think now that she may have had problems with women in her original home, as she cowered if I tried to stroke her for yearsSad Weirdly she is epileptic- as was our old Maine Coon, she had a clean bill of health when adopted, but she certainly came to the right home as we are very experienced with epileptic cats

We didn't think we could have more as Roxi is listed as not getting on with other cats, but DD raised some money for CPL & was taken on a special behind the scenes tour if a big chattery as a thank you - tiny grey & white Johnny spotted her & wouldn't let her leave. Turned out his birthday is the same as DDs & too.

They said we could try him with Roxi and it was much easier than expectedSmile He was rejected at birth & hand reared & is the soppiest cat ever, but has a lot of dog like traits tooConfused

Here is my pair. Bit of an odd couple, pretend to hate each other but are always asleep together. That giant lump of a cat also has cuddly toy he takes to bed himself every night. Some big tough street cat he is.

Three here. Portia.. 16, who came from a farm and is affectionate but scary Grin
And Obie and Ophie.. sibling Maine Coons, who came after I lost my soul mate MC boy Morphy to cancer.

I will not have any more pedigrees unless they are rescue, but I would love another couple of cats. DH however would probably move out Grin

timtam23 · 21/01/2016 23:10

I just have the one now. A 2 year old male, who was found under our car bonnet at 8 weeks old by a very shocked mechanic (I had driven to the garage oblivious to the kitten clinging on). He is the family's cat but is mine really. I did have 2 oldies who had been my companions long before DH and the DCs were on the scene but they have both died since we took in the youngster. I think one is our limit for now although I wish I could take in another cat from a rescue.

StopLaughingDrRoss · 21/01/2016 23:27

Just the one who I adore and who is most definitely my little old man. He does not get on with other cats who bully him mercilessly so it will be just him even though I would definitely like to have more.. cats are just beautiful!

cosytoaster · 21/01/2016 23:38

2 rescue cats - they loathe each other

myrtleWilson · 22/01/2016 19:59
