Balanchine & Nijinsky (Balanchine's the one yawning), 3y9m old litter-mate half brothers.
They came from a nice young man who was staying in his father's loft when a neighbour's cat decided to have her umpteenth litter of kittens there. Knowing it was kitten season & shelters were overflowing, he undertook to care for them himself. He was working 3 jobs at locations across the city though, so it was tough work, particularly once the kittens started weaning. He was having to stick down (the very cheapest, adult) catfood whenever he could make it home & change litter & put down fresh water ditto. They came to live with me aged 8 weeks & went, within 3 days, from fearful of all human contact, to a pair of snuggleupapusses who are completely bonded to me (they're still very shy though, particularly Nijinsky, who 99.9% of the time runs away & hides under my bed when a stranger enters the house).
They chose to be indoor cats & are Indoor Parkour Enthusiasts as well as enjoying playing tag & hide & squeak. They are very vocal & Nijinsky frequently expresses his liking for foods by saying "yum yum yum/miam miam miam". They are also incredibly astute & caring when it comes to my Broken - they will frequently pick my most painful joint to snuggle up to, or act as a heating pad when I have abdominal pain. They still get quite cross when their purrs assist with my respiratory physio & I start coughing though! I'm not sure if they can tell I'm going to have a seizure because I've never had a human there to see what they do, but they certainly provide excellent aftercare!
The balletcats have a very close & loving relationship, as you can probably tell from the fact they're curled up together on the bed they had as tiny kittens when there's another bed right beside them!
OP, I wish you much joy with your new feline friend dictator & all-powerful fluffy tyrant. She is beautiful & the look of slight disdain & Not Suffering Fools Gladly is splendid. She could totally be Internet Famous were you so minded...
WildeWoman: how allergic are you? I'm allergic but can cope with lots of year round antihistamines (two sorts plus an anti-allergy asthma medication) + steroid nasal spray + eyedrops if needed. And having had the moglets from kittenhood definitely helps... But I appreciate if you're like my poor best friend you're stuck - super SUPER allergic to anything furry, basically. She'd had a cat her whole life & when she moved out for uni & came back at the end of her first term she was suddenly horrendously allergic & it was just awful for them both
. But yes, is there any chance you might be able to? Maybe talk to your allergy specialist about the severity of your reaction (mmm, scratch tests...) & whether medication might work for you?
