would you tell your 9 yr old you're having cat PTS?

Would you? Or would you just take cat to the vets and then tell DS that cat passed away?

I'm so sorry for you Stirred. We have two much adored kitties, with one of whom I expect to be in a similar situation in the next 18 months. I'm sitting here in tears for you, I can't imagine how hard today is. May Gracie rest in peace in a heaven full of catnip and laser pointers and never feel another day's pain. A very big, 'un-mumsnet-ish' hug to you and your DC's.

My beautiful girl is gone....Sad SadSad. I have never witnessed a pet being put to sleep before but it was so peaceful and quick. I sobbed and sobbed, it was so sad and yet so gentle too.

I'm so sorry you have lost your beautiful girl.
You did the right thing but it's hard on you. We had our 19 year old pts in July. It too was peaceful. The vet said she was ready.

So sorry you've lost your girl. From your posts it sounds the kindest thing for her but very sad.

So sorry for your loss, take comfort in the fact that if she didn't fight it she was ready to go. That's what I tell myself about my old girl that we lost a couple of years ago, she was unable to walk and had stopped eating and it was peaceful for her too, she was quietly gone within moments of having the injection. It hurts but you did the right thing.

Flowers so very sorry, she was a stunningly beautiful cat. Big loves. Hope your children are alright and of course you too. Have been there myself. Numerous times.

Thank you so much everyone for your lovely reassuring words. The vet was very kind and allowed us to chat over my options and discuss her outlook. There was no rushing despite me having made the appointment specifically for PTS. The prognosis for Gracie was hopeless and would have involved invasive surgery, MRI scans and as the problem was neurological and involved both her spine and her brain it was pretty much a fait acomplis that she had to be let go....I still feel awful though...
