Time to let go?

My Tonkinese cats are now 17. The male is fit and healthy, eats well and is very alert, purring and happy. His sister is rapidly losing weight, a bit wobbly, not washing properly and hiding in corners though she will sit on my lap and be stroked. You can feel every bone, her coat is rough and staring and she isn't eating though she is drinking. She is not incontinent.. She seems totally uninterested in anything at all.
At what point should I take her to the vet? I love her.

So sorry. She really was a beauty; she's at peace now.

cozietoesie · 02/11/2015 10:08

I'm so sorry.

You'll have to be giving lots of TLC to her brother now I guess - he won't ever really have known life without her around.

What a lovely name. Really sorry to read the update, but I am sure that you made the kindest decision for her. I hope her brother is OK as they looked very close in the photos. Thanks for letting us know what happened Flowers

So sorry. What a beautiful girl. How lucky she was to have had you for her lovely, long life. Hope you and her brother are holding up Flowers

timtam23 · 02/11/2015 10:52

They are absolute mirror images of each other in those lovely photos! Her brother will need a big cuddle.

TheGreenNinja · 02/11/2015 10:54

So sorry to hear that, it's difficult even when you know it's absolutely the right thing to do. She was such a beautiful cat.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/11/2015 11:39

I'm so sorry, I think you did the right thing for her. She was a beautiful girl.

isamonster · 02/11/2015 22:16

Just to say, I'm thinking about you all tonight and sending you my best. I know there will be a Kedi shaped hole in all your lives. Take care of yourselves and of course her brother.

Threetoedsloth · 02/11/2015 23:29

So sad, so sorry. What a beautiful girl. Sleep well Guzel Kedi and gentle kisses for her lovely brother. Take care- they leave pawprints on our hearts.

Wolfiefan · 02/11/2015 23:33

I'm so sorry for your loss. It is the hardest part of being a pet owner but we owe it to them to make it.
Take comfort in knowing how much she was loved and what a good life you gave her. Beautiful girl. Treasure the memories.

Flowers RIP beautiful cat.

I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers

Hope your boy is holding up. I also have some closely bonded cats and am dreading the time when one of them passes.

cozietoesie · 04/11/2015 09:24

How is her brother doing today?

Pranmasghost · 05/11/2015 22:42

Haggis is doing a lot of sleeping on the towel that we put in Kedi's box. He is eating well but he has stopped going outside at all. He occasionally wanders around making a strange low pitched noise, quite new to him. He will sit on our laps for a while and purrs if you stroke him.
Kedi would have been 18 today.

He sounds as if he's adjusting - it's a massive change to his life and only been a few days. Is he using his tray fine?

hiddenhome2 · 06/11/2015 04:46

Sorry about your kitty. She looked like a lovely cat.

Pranmasghost · 06/11/2015 14:33

Yes he is using the tray normally. We have bought a new bed for him as we found Kedi had soiled the other one quite badly. He won't look at the new bed but likes my new throw!
