Scruffy cat (homeless?) Help!

I've 2 cats, Big Grumpy and Wee Shite (not actual names) Big Grumpy hates other cats and I nearly had to give up the kitten as she was so grumpy about him (they're ok now)

They have a cat flap that I've had to lock so it's inward only so kitten can't get out (he's mastered the cat flap but not spayed etc yet)

Anyway this other cat called Scruffy Cat has been popping in and out for food. Big Grumpy obviously doesn't like him. Now the cat flap is locked though Scruffy Cat can't get out again. He's filthy, his fur is thin and scraggy looking, he's flea riddled Sad He's not skinny/starved though, friendly if you stroke him but growly if you try and shift him. Went in the kitchen tonight and he was asleep pushed up as close to the radiator as he could get. Have put him out but I feel mean on him! I really love cats Sad Also he has a blue patch thing in one eye? Like actually in the eye, hard to describe.

I don't want to take him on as have the 2 cats already. But don't want to shove him outside and leave him. Also don't want to lock the cat flap all the time as Big Grumpy gets stressed if she can't get in.

What do you advise anyone? Am breaking my heart over him!

(I will add pics when I take some)

Oh good, I did wonder if they would just pts. Where will he live while he's having all that treatment?.

MardyKnickers · 27/10/2015 10:26

Go on Polter you know you need a new kitty in your life Wink

He is only 4 Shock

Well done for helping him, he will love you forever and ever...

MardyKnickers · 27/10/2015 10:28

He doesn't live anywhere...apparently he's just 'a stray' until if and when I can find a shelter to take him in ! Shock

He's a proper friendly wee boy too, he was having strokes and purring in the vet!! The vet was like...it'd be a real shame to put him down...he is right though, he is a very friendly lad. I did ask if the RSPCA might take him but give him back if no one took him/if he got to the point where they would PTS but vet wasn't sure.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/10/2015 10:37

I hoped maybe they'd take him in. Our local poundland is doing fleece pet blankets if you want to line the box with fleece.

Maybe a vet employee will fall for him.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/10/2015 10:45

That's good news! I wish I could take him (I'm a sucker for poor and needy cats!) but I don't think H would approve.

Please, please don't let the RSPCA take him. As I said upthread they wanted to PTS my friend's cat just for having a very mild heart murmour.

When William adopted us we bought him a cat kennel for the back garden so he could shelter if he wanted. Is that an option for ScruffyCat? (If you're anywhere near me you're welcome to William's kennel as it's still in the garden.)

MardyKnickers · 27/10/2015 10:46

Maybe....he will be back soon for his neutering, hopefully looking a bit healthier!!

If not, I'll have to turn to the almighty FB/MN/wherever to find him a new mummy and daddy.....

Ooooh I was thinking about a kennel!! I'm about 30 mins from Manchester centre

Such good news! Shame you can't keep him, he sounds lovely. Local FB pages etc would be a good place as long as you can vet the potentials.

Any luck with smaller independent rescue centres?

laflaca · 27/10/2015 10:52

Looks like little Scruffycat's life will be much easier now, thanks to you.

MardyKnickers · 27/10/2015 11:11

All the local cat shelters so far have said no....one didn't even answer the phone, just had a recorded voicemail message to say they weren't taking animals at the mo!! Will keep trying though.

Will be putting him on FB as found cat, see if anyone recognises him....then when he doesn't look like a swamp monster any more I'll put him up as needing adoption. I will proper check out any potential new homes though.

The challenge is....get ScruffyCat a home for Christmas Smile

Although he will be HandsomeCat by then

I'm in Surrey so it's a bit of a trek for the kennel! It's a shame as I'd like to think of it helping another cat.

It'd be a bit of a long drive for ScruffyCat as well if I adopted him...

hiddenhome2 · 27/10/2015 11:28

Where do you live?

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/10/2015 11:39

You wont put a picture up though?, you don't want the wrong sort of people getting him.

SoDiana · 27/10/2015 12:00

That is one badass kitty Grin

You're not going to find an owner - he has probably been stray for most of his life. I wouldn't even try. If you do try though don't put a photo up and they must be able to show you a photo of him.

I'm very happy to hear that he's fundamentally fine. I'm sure your cats could get used to him eventually.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/10/2015 13:47

I agree with TCN, your cats probably would get used to him. The main reason I've never adopted another cat (and it didn't work with William) is our lack of space. We have a one bedroom maisonette so no way of keeping H and a new cat apart. (DH refused to put up a stud wall in the living room!)

Go on, keep him - you know you want to! Grin

timtam23 · 27/10/2015 17:22

That's such great news. Please don't put a photo of him or too much description/info on FB - there are some very unscrupulous people out there & I hear rumours that cats can be used as dog bait. Also the RSPCA are likely to PYS if they can't rehome. Some places might try to rehome him if you would be willing to foster him at your place? I secretly wish you could keep him, he has been through so much & it's such good luck that he found you & you cared enough to sort things out for him. Do you think there's any chance that your adult cat could tolerate him once neutered & tidied up?

timtam23 · 27/10/2015 17:23

Sorry - *PTS

Celen · 27/10/2015 21:17

Please keep posting pics, yes! I love a good before and after Smile

It's very early days for BigGrumpy & WeeShite though, I'm sure they'll soon come round to tolerating him?
Looking forward to your next instalment!

And well done Op WineCake

fenneltea · 28/10/2015 10:47

So pleased to see he is okay, for what it's worth I've taken in five strays and my resident cats have all come round to the idea given time, getting used to each others scents in the house helped.
