Should I rehome this kitty?

We sort of ended up at the cat shelter today just to take a look at the cats.

There's a 10 year old neutered male cat there. He's in good health, but is very shy and has been there since April.

He came in with several other cats having been rescued from a semi derelict house that had no heating or lighting. They were being fed by a woman who's since been prosecuted for neglect of these cats.

We went into his pen and sat down and he hid in a cat tube. We stroked him lots and he started purring. He's a big softy.

He's a real cat lovers cat rather than being outgoing and confident, so we could manage him fine as we're a quiet household and have lots of experience with cats.

I'd have to phone the insurance to find out how much it would cost each month.

Would it be a risky thing to do to take an older cat on?

Your cats are gorgeous.

Our black cat was the friendliest one I've ever met. He chose to move in with us. He was really really persistent coming in the cat flap despite us trying to put him out because we didn't want to nick someone else's cat. His owners moved away without him though. Wankers, but great for us as he was fab.

All the best for your inspection this evening hidden, hope they're not too perturbed by the tarantula's and snakes Grin

hiddenhome2 · 23/09/2015 15:00

Thanks MissMarple I've been cleaning all day and done the snakes all out and tidied the tarantula's bookcase. They're very smart now. Everyone has been warned to be on best behaviour Grin dh has been polishing.

Any news?

hiddenhome2 · 23/09/2015 22:08

Oo, yes Smile

The lady came and visited and met the three cats and the two kids. She could see that we take good care of the cats and that the garden is safe and they can't get out because of the protectapuss system.

She said I'd need another cat litter tray and I said that I've got one in the shed. I showed her proof of the cat's up to date vaccinations.

She said that she'd be speaking to the shelter tomorrow and that we're fine to go ahead and collect him once they've phoned.

I'm starting to worry about what my girls will think and how they'll react. OldCat probably won't even notice. Pearl will boss him around, but FatCat might get a shock as she's quite sensitive.

We're going to look after him separately at first until everyone has had a chance to adjust. I'll get a Feliway refill.

I offered to show the lady the invertebrates, but she politely declined Grin

Just caught up with this. I knew you would do it...I knew it. You are a pushover!

William is going to be a very contented cat.

hiddenhome2 · 26/09/2015 12:47

He's home! Grin

Here is his setup.

I don't think you can see him very well in the igloo. He came straight out of the cat carrier and into it.

The Feliway is plugged in and the others are a bit Hmm. FatCat is a bit Shock

I can just about see a slightly darker centre to the broad picture but that's it - even on the App. How was he going into his carrier? Did he make no noise at all?

I guess that the others' reactions are better than downright hatred?

Keep us posted.

hiddenhome2 · 26/09/2015 13:12

He went into the carrier fine. The caregiver did it whilst I did the paperwork and the payments.

I've bought him the cat litter and food that he's used to and got him a new scratching post thingy.

I have to go to work now, but dh and the dcs are in. I've put some relaxing cat music on YouTube for him and the room is quiet with no through traffic.

Poor lad - resigned to his fate it almost sounds like. You all might have to put in a lot of TLC there.

Good luck. Smile

MissMarpleCat · 26/09/2015 19:26

Ah bless him. He'll probably hide for a while but eventually get used to his new home. Congratulations Smile
