What exotic name can we call black and white cats so they dont get overlooked in the rescue centres?

We need to make them more desirable.

I'm not creative with words so one of you will have to think of something.

Sylvester & Tom are not allowed --making the rules up as I go- because no one watches those cartoons anymore and they wont have the faintest idea who Sylvester is.

Its a bit late for me to think straight (I get up at 4am) but maybe something like Hollywood Stars As in silver screen movies (being black and white) and give them all movie star names and name their room after a movie staring the actors you have named the cats after.

I don't understand why they're overlooked so often. I've only ever had black and white cats I love the myths associated with them like witchcraft and magic etc

My beautiful, clever black and white rescue cat....Boudicca (Boo to the few humans she allows to enter her personal space)

Now that looks like a very self-possessed lady. (And beautiful.)

Why are black and whites so unfavoured? I love mine, fell in love with him immediately when I saw a photo, but no one else liked him :-(

elephantoverthehill · 08/08/2015 23:04

I have heard that black and white cats are called 'London cats' so a few place names to on there then. Also whilst typing black and white cat I had a strange vision of Greendale. Could this give you some inspiration?

patienceisvirtuous · 08/08/2015 23:08

Love my two canny bairns. Their natures are gorgeous, just like them!!

Yes they're holding hands paws here :)

sleepyhead · 08/08/2015 23:23

My tuxedo rescue cat looks like she's wearing 60s kinky boots and prim white gloves with her dinner jacket.

She has glass green eyes, a black face and pure white whiskers - just gorgeousSmile

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 08/08/2015 23:28

patience they are beautiful. And look so content!
cozie she is indeed self possessed. She is the most haughty animal I have ever met, which makes the moments where she does show affection all the more special. I'll never forget the advice and support you gave me on here 2 years ago when I brought her home as a 7 week old flea bag. Thank youSmile

MoreCrack I remember you posting about your rescue kitten! I think it was on the thread about my kitten Dudley who was found under my car bonnet! Isn't your beautiful girl looking absolutely gorgeous now! (Dudley is also 2 years old now & doing very well)

How about inventing a legend about the good fortune invariably associated with adopting b+w cats, and sticking it on Wiki and watch it perpetuate itself?

Something like:

'According to a mysterious legend, a medieval London trader was down on his luck and facing destitution. One day he saw a ragged, homeless black and white cat, and full of pity, decided to adopt him, although he hardly had the resources to feed his own family. The cat was so grateful that it kept the trader's home free of rats and mice, and even hunted rabbits for the family to cook. A little later plague descended upon the city, but the trader and family stayed healthy because the rats never dared to get near their house for fear of the notorious feline hunter. The trader recovered his wealth and attributed his success entirely to his black-and-white pet - whom he decreed henceforth to be an equal partner in his business. The cat was given his own chair and desk in the office, and was known as Thomass Catte Esquire in all business dealings. The cat's business acumen was second to none: he miaowed twice to approve a deal and once to reject it. Since that point, adopting a black-and-white cat has been regarded as an indication that good fortune is sure the visit the family. However, the cat has to have been genuinely homeless beforehand - for instance a stray or in a shelter. Black-and-whites bred for the purpose and sold on Gumtree will bring no luck whatsoever. There is some debate among historians about whether the legend applies strictly to black-and-white cats only, or whether black cats with a tiny bit of white on a paw would also generate the required degree of luck; however, it is generally agreed that the more desperate the individual cat's situation, the more the rescuer will be rewarded later on. Your local shelter will undoubtedly be able to advise you about which black-and-white cat will best assure your future fortunes.'

That'll do nicely.

Oh Arch that has made my day.

What about Monomoggies?

Still thinking, Fluffy. Me and Mr Cory are exhausted - travellers, of the partying and breaking-up-industrial-rubbish-at-4am variety, moved in a week ago next door at the abandoned Met Surveillance building (Grin) and no one has kipped for a week. Noise past belief -- they're collecting building rubbish by the lorryload 24/7 and dumping it/breaking it up in what used to be quite a nice garden for locals, which has now vanished under 30 foot of rats, rubble, puke and beer cans. They're startlingly antisocial and aggressively disrespectful.

Thanks to the endless weird howling, roaring and broken shrieks through the night, a lot of locals called the RSPCA but it turned out the noise was human. And having a takeaway. Grin.

cozietoesie · 10/08/2015 13:03

Breaking up industrial rubbish in a domestic zone?

Phone Environmental Health at the Council immediately!

Corygal · 10/08/2015 16:52

Calls have been made, cozie - the 'travellers' failed to cooperate & a writ has been issued from the High Court, swank.

I must say I don't think these people are real travellers for a minute - I think they're just using a legal quirk to set up camp, run criminal businesses, and scarper when officials they can't ignore (ie on bulldozers) finally turn up.

On another matter, I rang the RSPCA, not to whinge about the din but to raise the alarm about the 8 huge wolf dogs who are let out to bark at night & frighten people away but locked into a silver Mercedes all day, in the heat. Also Mr C was petrified of the baying for blood & did stress moulting on the first night. (He is fine now.) I held on for so long the local-rate call cost me 13 quid. Natch the RSPCA refused to do anything - 'the dogs will be better off inside in this heat'. Err, right.

So I called the council and they were brilliant - the env health team, comprised of two tiny middle-aged ladies in an ancient Golf, sped round. Evidently contact with a team of armed burly men was satisfactory. The dogs were let out and feeding bowls were later spotted. I later found out that Animal Welfare is not 'strictly within the remit of environmental health', but I guess I wasn't the only person on this street who didn't know that. Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/08/2015 17:22

I think you can call the police for dogs in a car on a hot day.

Got to love London haven't you?.

We were down in May, dh has refused to go back.

Corygal · 10/08/2015 23:00

Fluffy you should have stayed with me, I can guarantee after a day of Mr C's affections, DH would have been rushing back to ASBO with a tin of salmon. Grin

Oldraver · 14/08/2015 22:17

We are wanting a black and white cat but will take the one that chooses us

I have a feeling DS may want to call it Jessie...not so much after Postman Pats Jess but his Jessie Cat from Sing and Sign. He has loved the whiskars off of his toy one

I love black and white cats, and tabby and white too. They are so uniquely marked :) We only had the one black and white, named very imaginatively 'Tom' he was a total bagpuss and I loved him very much.

Our current cats are a sort of creamy ginger, chosen because we'd never seen that colouring before. Weirdly this colouring is known as a Cream Silver Classic Tabby, suggesting that you could call black and white cats just about anything!
