Girlie cat is really poorly....

Some of you might remember me posting a while ago as my young girl cat had ulcers in her mouth and after a biopsy was found to have a rare auto immune disorder.

However she picked up with treatment (steroids mostly) and was seemingly making a full recovery.

Then on Friday I noticed she wasn't eating or doing very much, took her to the vet ystd or was puzzled as doesn't think this is linked to her original diagnosis. He have her anti inflammatories and antibiotics and we have to take her back later this morning.

She looks really ill, now not moving, hasn't eaten or drunk anything in 48 hours (apart from the few mls we are syringing into her as per vet advice) she looks like she is dying Sad Sad this poor cat seems to have no luck, she is only 13 months old.

Dd is especially close to her and we have had lots of tears already, I am assuming they will keep her in today for 'tests' but I am wondering if she has been poisoned or something.

Just posting for support really, i can't bear seeing her so ill Sad

Oh how awful. Really hoping she will pull through. Does the vet suspect poisoning? Are there any lilies in your neighbours' gardens?

Lonecatwithkitten · 24/05/2015 10:03

Has she been tested for FeLV and FIV? IME young cats with so many problems often have one of these viruses.

Neither have a good prognosis, but at least you would know what you were dealing with.

girliefriend · 24/05/2015 12:28

Hi thanks for the replies, just back from the vets. He thinks she is no worse but also no better, wanted to do bloods but said no point as its the wend Hmm and that although she is slightly dehydrated she is holding her own at the mo.

Plan is for us to get syringing fluids into her as much as possible and to take her back in the morning for bloods and a review by different vet.

We are meant to be going to London on Tuesday for a couple of days.....

She has had all her vaccinations lonecat so shouldn't have those viruses?

She is back under my bed now looking very sorry for herself Sad

Oh and no lilies that I have noticed TCN

Oh bless you and Girliecat. You poor things. Sad

I hope the vet can get to the root of what's wrong. Flowers

Lonecatwithkitten · 24/05/2015 16:10

FIV is not covered by vaccinations and some cats can gets perinatal FeLV infection. It really would be worth getting her tested.

girliefriend · 24/05/2015 17:04

Would that show up in a blood test Lonecat ?

I will be pushing for some answers tomos, she hasn't peed or pooed in 48 hours now which can't be good. I wondered this afternoon if the steroids she had been on would have caused some internal damage? When I was younger we had a dog that eventually died of kidney failure related to steroid use although he had been on them for much longer than girlie cat has.

You need to do a specific FeLV/FIV blood test, we keep the snap tests in house, but some practices will send out to the lab.

girliefriend · 24/05/2015 18:21

o.kay thanks will mention to the vet tomos morning, have just tried syringing some more hydration fluids into her - she was not impressed.

She seems to have shrunk in the last 48 hours Sad if it is FeLV/FIV am guessing that would be it for her? Sad

I have tried to prepare dd for the worst, girlie cat was very much dds cat, she would only sit on dd, slept on her bed and if dd was upset girlie cat would try and comfort her by gently patting her on the nose! She has a lovely nature, can't believe she is so ill.

RubbishMantra · 24/05/2015 18:58

From what I understand, FIV cats can still lead a long life, just have to be kept indoors. There's a few people on the board who have FIV+ cats. Don't know about FeLV though.

Keeping fingers crossed for your little lass.

fenneltea · 24/05/2015 20:41

Poor cat :( One of my cats developed an illness where she wouldn't eat/drink, her bloods came back clear, but for several days all she would do was lick some webbox lick e lix and we used to drop some cat milk on her paw and under her nose for her to lick off. She did still use a litter tray though, and it seemed to resolve itself. I really hope the same is true for you girl, it sounds as if she could do with some fluid therapy if she is dehydrated, hopefully the vets will sort her out. Flowers

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/05/2015 20:50

asbo was ill as a young cat and looked shrunken. It could be the dehydration.

timtam23 · 24/05/2015 20:51

Poor girlie. I remember your previous thread about her. She does sound poorly. Fingers crossed for her. Did the vet suggest keeping her in for fluids? I can't imagine it's easy to syringe them in. Thoughts with you all & keep us posted.

StarTravels · 24/05/2015 22:12

What autoimmune disorder does she have and what steroid dosage? My car suffers from a similar problem and if the dosage isn't consistent he will also stop eating and drinking.

If she's that dehydrated I would really ask the vet to keep her in so she can be put on a drip.

girliefriend · 24/05/2015 22:30

The auto immune disorder is this one www.icatcare.org/advice/cat-health/eosinophilic-granuloma-complex EGC, which she apparently made a full recovery from. Her steroids are called prednicare and she had been weaned down to just half a tablet twice a week but the vet told me to not give her any at all now.

She has not moved from under my bed all day apart from when we have forcibly moved her to syringe some fluids in, I think she has had maybe 30mls all day. Will def want them to keep her in tomorrow for IV fluids and to work out what is wrong with her.

She can't go on much longer not eating, drinking or going to the toilet.

Poor puss, will attach a picture of her of when she was in perfect health, I maybe bias but I think she is beautiful Smile

She is at the vets, we are waiting for a phone call to say if it is feline leukaemia or not Sad they are going to try and give her some iv fluids although typically when we got to the vets she perked up a bit!

Can't do bloods until tomorrow as its the bank holiday which is quite frustrating.

OP posts:
RubbishMantra · 25/05/2015 13:16

Oh no girlie. You must be so worried.

Thinking of you and girliecat. x

girliefriend · 25/05/2015 17:22

Thanks.

So the vet wasn't able to get a blood sample today and they are having her in again tomos to do it all under sedation. Had a frank conversation about what could be going on, none of it sounds very good tbh. Feline leukaemia is a strong possibility as is a tumour in her stomach and renal failure, the end result sadly will be the same Sad

If she comes back positive to feline leukaemia she will be PTS tomos Sad Sad Sad

timtam23 · 25/05/2015 17:26

Poor girlie cat. Make a big fuss of her tonight. Thoughts with you all Flowers

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/05/2015 18:35

I really hope it's not leukaemia. she's so young to be so ill.

girliefriend · 25/05/2015 18:53

Yeah I know Fluffy the vet today was really nice but her said the fact that she has had so many health problems in her short life may be due to some underlying immunity problem.

I am preparing myself for the worst tomos and trying to console myself that at least the time she has had has been happy, she has been well loved and looked after. She is quiet again now but did sniff her food and had a small amount of water which is more than she did ystd!!

luxuriousblossom · 26/05/2015 23:39

Have been thinking of you today Flowers

code · 27/05/2015 08:12

Poor little girl, I hope you're ok.

fenneltea · 27/05/2015 08:21

My thoughts are with you too, there are so many cats that are unloved and have nobody to help them, so in a way you girl has been blessed to have someone who has loved and cared for her. She is a beautiful cat. xxx

cozietoesie · 27/05/2015 15:41

I hope you had some good news about her.
