Didokitty died....why?

DidoTheDodo · 27/02/2015 14:18

We are so terribly sad. This morning I came downstairs as usual to find the gorgeous Didokitty dead. She was less than 2 years old and last night was in the peak of health, eating, playing, lively and cuddly as usual. Nothing at all to suggest there was anything wrong.

And now she's gone.

Why would this happen to a healthy kitty? Could she have had a faulty heart or an aneurysm? She looked as though she had gone very suddenly with no obvious signs of distress and certainly no injuries.

Crying lots. We loved our Didokitty.

I'm so sorry, Dido. This happened to me with my darling Oneago - one minute a healthy, perky 8 year old playing around and 4 minutes later (I'd just gone downstairs to get a parcel and came back up again) he was stone dead on the bedroom floor.

I assumed from the sheer speed of it that it was a heart or brain event because there had been absolutely no warning - he seemed to be a perfectly healthy cat in the prime of his life. We had no autopsy undertaken.

DidoTheDodo · 27/02/2015 14:49

Thank you cozietoesie. It's just so horrible and sudden and she was so young and happy. It does sound similar to what happened to your lovely cat.

We buried her in the garden in a sunny spot and the Vicar came round and did a lovely cat funeral with us.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/02/2015 14:56

So sorry Dido Thanks

RubbishMantra · 27/02/2015 17:21

Bless you and DidoKitty.

What an awful shock for you.

Probably not much comfort for you right now, but she obviously didn't suffer.

cozietoesie · 27/02/2015 18:30

That was actually a good comfort for me with Oneago. Later on.

Sparklingbrook · 27/02/2015 18:41

Sorry Dido. Flowers

I lost my 12 month old cat five years ago. She was found dead too, no injuries, nothing. We did know she had a heart murmur though.

TerryTheGreenHorse · 27/02/2015 18:43

Thanks So sorry dido.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/02/2015 18:50

Oh dido I am sorry. Virtual hug to you

DownAtFraggleRock · 27/02/2015 21:23

Oh I'm so sorry. I live in fear of this Sad

Lonecatwithkitten · 27/02/2015 21:26

Sorry to hear this. Cats can suffer a cardiomyopathy that leads to sudden death. There is no murmur to hear. The only way to find these cats before the event would be to ultrasound every cats heart every year. Even then we think that we would be able to stop the sudden death event.
It is horrible when it happens.

cozietoesie · 27/02/2015 21:32

The only contributory factor that I can think of is that the postie had just knocked on the door and Oneago hated the postie with a deep and deadly loathing - used to growl when he heard his van coming up the street. Maybe his blood pressure was raised by the arrival or something.

But Yes - it's horrible when it happens.

Wadingthroughsoup · 27/02/2015 21:58

That's so sad, I'm sorry. Something similar happened to one of our cats many years ago. She was a little older than your Didokitty, but by no means an old cat. It's sad not knowing why it happened, but PPs are right that in time, you will be able to feel comfort in the fact that she clearly didn't suffer at all. I'm sure you gave her a lovely life in your home, and that she felt loved.

Cailleach · 28/02/2015 00:45

Sorry to hear this, OP. This happened to our eight year old cat late last year. She just curled up in her bed and in the morning she'd gone.

The vet reckoned it was an undetected heart problem. She'd always been a chubby bugger, so that probably didn't help.

It was a huge shock. Then again, she almost certainly died instantly and so knew nothing about it, and at least she had eight happy years with us.

Sometimes these things just happen. :(

DidoTheDodo · 28/02/2015 10:39

Thank you, all of you.
We do know, that in time, some of these things will bring us much comfort.
But not today. Today is just so hard and we miss her so very much.

jeanswithatwist · 28/02/2015 21:43

sorry for your loss. tomorrow at midday our cat will be (more than likely) pts, i'm dreading it. just walking around the house their are signs of her everywhere from her toys to the severely scratched bathroom door. i know it is hard, try and focus on the fun memories, something i have been trying to do all evening, i need to distract myself as she is still here looking very ill slumped i the lounge. i keep stroking her gently but i can tell she is in pain so i have to stop myself although i just want to hold her one last time but feel i can't Sad

Corygal · 28/02/2015 23:39

Dido I am so terribly sorry for you all. What a horrifying shock. But the only comfort there is right now is to know that the darling kitty cannot have suffered at all, and had a lovely, happy and fulfilled life. Which you gave her.

Be gentle on yourself, please, and know that we are all thinking of you.

DidoTheDodo · 01/03/2015 07:32

You're all so kind, and it helps to read your words.

jeans I'll be thinking of you and your lovely furry friend.

If there's no cats in heaven, I'm not going there.

hi dido, hope you are ok? we got back from the vets about an hour ago and feel pretty numb/heart broken tbh. i am busy washing up ie food bowls, litter tray etc as i can't bear to see the stuff, feels like she is still here. I held her head in my hand when vet administered the injection, pretty awful moment, we all sobbed, even dh which was probably a first (certainly in public). i was stodd behind her, her head still felt warm but when i suddenly saw her tongue come out to the side of her mouth (within seconds) i knew she had died, i kissed her goodbye and made a quick exit. thre was another family infront of us also having their cat pts. i loved that cat. what really sits in my memory was when we were waiting in the reception waiting room, the sun was shining in and i caught sight of my cat (in her box) looking at me with that love look, that moment has stayed with me. sorry to ramble on. your sudden loss is pretty awful, i have no idea how that must have felt, only know how you feel now. we are going to get a cat pretty soon, i think it will help although not ready yet, miss her so much. Flowers to you

DramaAlpaca · 01/03/2015 15:27
