My cat is giving birth but I don't know if all is well. Help!

She has been really clingy with me, meowing and not wanting to leave my side. Thinking she was probably in labour, I offered her den like boxes but she wouldn't stay in them.

About half an hour ago she gave birth to her first kitten on the carpet near to my feet. After allowing her to clean the kitten, I layed a towel close to her but she immediately grabbed the kitten and took it upstairs and inside a wardrobe.

I can hear the kitten mewing and she is in there with it sort of growling. If I leave the room she follows me out. If I stay in the room she will sit inside with the kitten but periodically comes out to sit with me. When she hears the kitten crying she goes back in but does the low growling noise.

What is going on and what can I do? I know she has more yet to be born. I'm so worried she is rejecting them. This is her first litter btw.

Well done OP-kitty midwife. Smile

Glad all went well! Congratulations on your new additions! Love that your cat trusts you so much to ask for your help, just too cute Grin

Ahh congrats op, hope they have all been okay today? I think queens that aren't spayed will go to ridiculous lengths to get out so probably worth getting mum done as soon as kittens are weaned.

3 is a nice manageable number, hopefully be able to find good homes for them.

Aw! Brings back memories. We took a cat in as a stray, took her to the vet to get checked over, 4 weeks later she had 3 kittens. She did it all alone but sought out a quiet dark place then put the born kittens in a wardrobe. our whole family was on a high.

Very beautiful kitten! Well done OP and massive congratulations to you and your new mum on three heavenly new furpeople in the world.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks letting moggies breed is irresponsible. My bil and his wife have one of each and have let her have kittens. They kept posting pictures on fb and family were saying how cute but it just annoyed me. I know with you op it wasnt the case. Both of my cats have been spayed.
