Home from the shelter a couple of hours ago, there was me, most concerned that she isn't overwhelmed and is given lots of space to help with the settling in nerves. Not much sign of those!

The sniff and rub inspection appears to have finished after about the 60th circuit, now settling in with a chew toy and a spider that was dispatched within 20 minutes of arrival.

Only problem is that she is named Chanelle, after the BB contestant. Old servant was a big fan of BB apparently, brothers/sisters named Chantelle, Ziggy, Bubbles etc. Hoping we can get a name change through...

Aww. Lovely. Rename her what you wish. She will know from the tone of your voice that you love her.

catsofa · 05/10/2014 19:19

Aw she is beautiful! And hooray for nice confident cats making the place their own in just the way you're told not to expect.

When I got my girl five years ago she marched around the place as soon as she got out of her box, twice around the whole flat and then plonked herself on my lap (which she then never really moved far from for the next five years), washed herself and started snoring.

What are you going to call her? Or is this the naming thread?

MrsBertMacklin · 05/10/2014 19:22

Regards names, Audrey has popped into my head pretty much from the moment I got her in the car. Happy to receive other suggestions!

Audrey is a great name.

(She looks like a queen bee already.)

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2014 20:03

She's just gorgeous! My cat had two names before we got him but he learnt a third one.

I still think all they hear is "blah blah blah blah FOOD"

MrsBertMacklin · 05/10/2014 20:12

Woohoo, she's used the litter tray! Wine

I ave a bit of a belief that changing names is bad lucky I would be going for Elle or something similar. Or creating a derivative one of mine arrived Daisy, it became Daisy Dude and now she is the dudette.

cozietoesie · 05/10/2014 20:38

Oh well done Audrey! (That's you able to relax now?)

cozietoesie · 05/10/2014 20:42

That smacks of casuistry, Lone - Daisy being nothing like Dudette!

(Do you come from a naval family perchance?)

Momagain1 · 05/10/2014 20:46

Oh, very Audrey, rather delicate, and those eyes!

RabbitsarenotHares · 05/10/2014 20:47

She's a beaut! And obviously feels living quarters are up to scratch (for now, at least!)

When I got mine I was concerned I couldn't put her in a room out of the way for the first few days (as all the books suggest, she was my first kitten and I wanted to do things properly). As if she cared! She walked along the back of sofa, then jumped up on t'other and curled up. A friend who popped round 15 mins later was convinced I'd had a few days, so 'at home' was she.

I hope you're ready to obey her every command!

Catsmamma · 05/10/2014 20:54

why not Nell, or Nellie, or Lady Nellington Fallulah Prettyface, or nellywellysmellybelly, which is frankly ridiculous.

valrhona · 05/10/2014 23:22

Another yes for Audrey

hiddenhome · 06/10/2014 11:53

Audrey sounds great.

Congratulations on your lovely kitty Grin

isseywithcats · 06/10/2014 13:05

aww shes lovely and i second the she looks like an audrey, my half siamese was called john when i adopted him at 7 months old it took him 3 months to realise his name wasnt ch ch ch but blue

cozietoesie · 06/10/2014 13:12

My Siamese have always arrived with formal names like 'Montezuma's Blue Butterfly on the Sun-Kissed Hillside' so faced with the utter impossibility of calling that sort of thing out of an evening they've all ended up being called the equivalent of Fred.

minkah · 06/10/2014 13:18

She is soooo lovely! Congrats to you both. Audrey seems perfect! She's beautiful.

I'd probably call her Beauty. Smile

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 06/10/2014 13:25

Aww Audrey

God I love cats abit to much to be healthy Grin

MrsBertMacklin · 23/10/2014 19:28

Bumping for advice, please.

Any tips, tricks or knacks for trimming claws? Managed to clip 3 at the weekend while madam was asleep, before she woke up. Desperate to get the back paws, but even when I get her relaxed and unaware, I can only get to the outer claws without her flinching at me touching her paws and doing a runner.

OP posts:
WellWhoKnew · 23/10/2014 22:28

I don't clip my cats' claws. In fact, it was a common practice in a country where I used to live, every time I took them to the vets, they'd come back with cut claws, then peg it up the cat tree and promptly slide back down again.

Just get yourself a good cat tree and let them trash it.

Save your skin.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 23/10/2014 22:45

One of mine grows massively long front claws (they curve around & she clicks when she walks) but her back ones get worn down running up and/or down trees/walls outside - cat scratching post didn't help. She hates having hers done too & I can usually only manage 1 or 2 while she's asleep - I have focussing problems which means each one takes twice as long as it should Confused

I think that unless you take her to the vet to have them done, clipping a couple here & there when you can is probably the best you can hope for

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 23/10/2014 22:47

One thing I do try (though probably not consistently enough) is to manipulate her pads while she's asleep but without clipping, just to get her used to it.

She's still not keen though

hugoagogo · 24/10/2014 18:07

I've never clipped a cat's claws.

If they had been in a bad state; then I' m sure the shelter would have done it.

Just get as her as post and she will take care of them herself.

girliefriend · 24/10/2014 20:45

Are you meant to clip their claws Confused I have had cats my entire life and never heard of this before!

Would a scratching post not do the trick?

She is really beautiful Smile my girl kitten was the same, I had gone round kitten proofing the flat making sure there were no small spaces she could squeeze herself into and really did not need to. She waltzed in bold as brass the day I brought her home and has acted like she owns the joint ever since Grin

How about Chantelle bit like Charlotte could be shortened to Lottie, she looks like a Lottie to me!

MrsBertMacklin · 24/10/2014 20:52

Argh, I thought you had to trim them, every site, RSPCA, Catster etc. has said so!

She has a post which gets used throughout the day along with our wicker blanket box, but the hind claws are sticking out through her fur when she stands still, so thought I needed to sort them out. Will leave for a bit longer.

Audrey has stuck and gets a nod of recognition now.
