What does your cat do that instantly gives you the rage?

My cat has a few habits that give me the rage but the most annoying one is when she uses her litter tray - after she has 'been', she will spend ages just mindlessly scratching the surrounding areas with her paw. This includes the walls behind her tray (it's massive corner one because she is so messy), the edges of the tray and occasionally the actual litter in the tray. I am then subjected to listening to the extremely irritating sound she makes, which goes on and on and on..!! Angry When she eventually stops, I'll start to relax, only for her to then go back and start all over again!! Angry To make matters worse, she never actually covers up what she has done, which is what this behaviour is supposed to be for. In the end I have to go in and interrupt her and she just gives me a look which says Confused

Anyone else have a cat that partakes in bizarre, mindless behaviour that gives you the rage?! Grin

CatOne has the most enormous voice for a small and dainty cat, and will yowl and yowl at the sitting room window to be let in, despite the kitchen door and patio door both being open. Every time we let her in she runs out the back and round to yowl at the front again.

She also likes to systematically and loudly rub down the entire interior of the litter box with her claws after her nightly 3am poo which frequently wakes me up.

CatTwo is just a messy article generally and leaves food and litter scattered everywhere after herself but she used to be more fastidious; she's brain damaged now so exempt from The Rage.

My FelixCat hangs around outside the front door until I go out to call him and his brother in for the night. Then, while his good little brother bombs in from where ever he's been, FelixCat bombs off down the cul-de-sac, chirruping loudly. When I give chase, he flops down on the ground, looking all sweet and ready for a cuddle, but the minute I get near enough to pick him up, he's off again. This happens 3 or 4 times, till he finally lets me pick him up and carry him home, his head held high, probably laughing at me. Ginger good boy brother follows me around the road while this is all happening. Goodness knows what the neighbours think, it must be the highlight of everyone's evening !

The second I pick up my phone to MN send a text or look something up, she will nudge it out of my hand, or make me hit something I don't mean to hit resulting in inappropriate Facebook likes and nonsensical half-sent texts.

Small girl cat has suicidal tendencies and bites through numerous wires (but only when plugged in). So far this year she's bitten through two Mac Book air chargers (total cost £82), two phone chargers (£10) and a bikini trimmer charger (can't be replaced so had to buy new trimmer). She also loves to eat any small pieces of plastic she can find. Failing that she rustles plastic bags at 3am.

Boy cat takes great joy in jumping on the other two cats and chasing them, eliciting endless hissing, yowling and flying fur.

Old lady cat continues to pee on the front door mat at any given opportunity, in spite of litter tray being available.

CanShop Oh, he was, he totally ruled me and the other cats! Anything that didn't go his way would result in some level of punishment (kicking cushions in a "I am going to pee here" kind of a way, pushing the phone out of my hand because he didn't like me using it, pulling fur out of his paw because he wasn't getting enough attention), I took him on when he was four and a half years old, - strange how his old owners never mentioned his little "foibles"!

And he used to sleep under the duvet with me, and dig his claws into me to make me move over so he could stretch out to maximum length, then poke me in the eye in the middle of the night so I would wake up!

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 01/07/2014 14:21

Old boy is a totally spoilt lap cat burmese, but god he is annoying.

Wakes me up at dawn by stamping on my head, which is hell this time of year. Never does this to DP. We've started shutting the bedroom door, so he just yowls outside it and beats the door.

Demands food the second I get in the house and follows me around the house tripping me up if I dare to pick up the post, bring in shopping or go to the toilet.

Pretends to swallow his daily overactive thyroid tablet but spits it out later for me to find stuck to the carpet.

He won't let me use ipad/laptop/smartphone either, just like Mackerel. My attention should be on him.

Still love him though and I will be devastated when he goes to the great litter tray in the sky (17 YO and definitely used up his 9 lives several times over).

Young girl is a total Daddy's girl so ignores me unless DP is away. She is however, the dirtiest, hairiest cat I have ever known and you can tell where she sits or sleeps by the pile of filth and hair left behind. Is also the queen of bringing live rodents 'to save for later'.

marne2 · 01/07/2014 14:23

My cat is perfect in almost every way, the only thing that annoys me is when he turns his nose up at several different foods and continues to meow in hope I will find him something more appealing. Luckily he no longer uses a litter tray but when he did he would do the scratching thing too.

AbbeyBartlet · 01/07/2014 17:59

OnIlkley you have a Burmese and you shut him out of the bedroom because he wakes you up? Good luck with that, Grin Burmese are so fabulously naughty, aren't they!

ElectricalBanana · 01/07/2014 18:20

19 yr old cat "mowws" loudly for no reason.

Stood outside open back door = moww

Sat on DDs bed at night = moww

Fly on landing = can't get past it= moww

Where am I ?= moww

Where are you? ( we are in the next room with doors opened) = moww

Shockers · 01/07/2014 20:12

How do you attach photos?

Shockercat also likes to follow me to the supermarket (within walking distance, he doesn't gallop alongside the car), and our neighbour enjoys his company when he goes to the newsagent in the mornings.

RubbishMantra · 01/07/2014 20:29

Adult boy stares wistfully through the catflap waiting for me to open the door to let him in. If I don't, he does the "moww" thing loudly and repeatedly in the garden, so all the neighbours probably think I lock him outside all day.

If the kitten thinks I am not getting his food to him quickly enough, he climbs my bare legs. I'm sure his claws are barbed.

GemmaTeller · 01/07/2014 20:43

Fat old cat sleeps on the bed next to my head.

Boy cat always sleeps at the foot of the bed, sometimes when its cold he'll decide to get under the duvet then fat old cat gets jealous and won't let him get next to me .....then they start fighting under the duvet, in the middle of the night.....sigh....

IAmANightOwl · 01/07/2014 21:00

My cat seems almost faultless after reading some of these posts! Grin

PicklePig does the scratching round his food thing. He's a very messy eater, he dribbles biscuits and cat pâté everywhere so his bowls are on a mat, but he scrapes round his bowl for ages after eating. Often he also scrapes the bookcase & wall next to his bowl.
He sometimes flips the corner of the mat over his bowl & then looks massively confused as to where his dinner has gone
Or he'll upend his water bowl. That's always a good one.
We bought one of those double bowl things that you remove the inner bowls from. It's a fish shaped, really heavy outer bowl holder & has stopped the water flipping a bit, but if he catches it just right he can cascade biscuits & water all over the kitchen. And then he just sits there yowling till we clear it up.
He also has 'phases' with sleeping places. He'll be velcro'd to a certain chair, bed, area of carpet for weeks, hardly ever leaving it, never sleeping anywhere else and then suddenly he'll decide to never use that place again.
I've bought him 4 different beds that he adored for a few months and then abandoned.
He's currently favouring one of the kitchen chairs. How long that fad lasts is anyone's guess.

CMOTDibbler · 01/07/2014 21:42

Cat3, who has lots of ishoos, will wail for food, eat one mouthfull and then spend 10 minutes trying to cover the bowl up by scratching things into thr bowl. Or just scratching the floor.

She will also scratch at the sealant on the front windows to be let in, in spite of a perfectly good cat flap. She moved the windows as we could ignore wailing at the front door Hmm

Cat1 likes to sleep halfway up the stairs and fills an entire tread. Due to his ishoos, stepping over him is somewhat dangerous.

Cat2s only fault is bringing things in during the night and eating them under our bed

Pointlessfan · 03/07/2014 08:06

He is never sick on a hard, easy to clean surface only ever on carpet. Before now I have spotted the signs and bundled him into the hall (laminate floor) only to watch him sprint back into the living room whilst still retching and vom all over the carpet. Lovely! At least he has given up trying to sit on my lap while I'm breastfeeding!!
