What does your cat do that instantly gives you the rage?

My cat has a few habits that give me the rage but the most annoying one is when she uses her litter tray - after she has 'been', she will spend ages just mindlessly scratching the surrounding areas with her paw. This includes the walls behind her tray (it's massive corner one because she is so messy), the edges of the tray and occasionally the actual litter in the tray. I am then subjected to listening to the extremely irritating sound she makes, which goes on and on and on..!! Angry When she eventually stops, I'll start to relax, only for her to then go back and start all over again!! Angry To make matters worse, she never actually covers up what she has done, which is what this behaviour is supposed to be for. In the end I have to go in and interrupt her and she just gives me a look which says Confused

Anyone else have a cat that partakes in bizarre, mindless behaviour that gives you the rage?! Grin

He scratches the stair carpet. He started on the bottom step and we tried to protect it by covering it with some jute type material. This was obviously not as satisfying to scratch as our nice, expensive, new stair carpet so he just switched his attention to the next step up Angry. Obviously, his specially bought cat scratching post is completely untouched!

IAmANightOwl · 30/06/2014 17:41

juniper I had an elderly cat that did that, but it was hard to feel angry with him Smile My current cat had some gastrointestinal issues when we first got her and when she used the litter tray, she didn't move her tail up and out but rather kept it low and close, which resulted in her frequently getting poo on the end of her tail Confused One day we came back from shopping to find cat shit all over the house, in random spots like on the wall, the radiator and on the windowsill Shock Thankfully we cracked the problem in the end and it stopped but I was still Angry for a while!

canshop My cat did that in our old house, so much so that she wore a hole in the carpet in one spot!!! It was a rented house, so I was Angry! She stopped doing it in the end when I used to tell her off Grin Our current house has stained wooden stairs with no carpet so she can't do it here! Grin

Stands on the kitchen roof outside my bedroom window and wowwwwwwls at me. At half past chuffing 5.
Whenever anyone gets up they both thunder through to the kitchen expecting food. Even if they have just been fed.
Smackhead cat has taken to following me, up the road to work, down the ginnel to the shop to the car. Wowwwwwwling all the way. Dick.

Canshopwillshop · 30/06/2014 17:51

Iamanightowl - bare wood is definitely the way forward and not so hard to get cat sick off either!

JuniperTisane · 30/06/2014 18:02

Oh yes. Shitty tail here too. And its fluffy. He's done it from kittenhood and he's 12 now...

The Snowshoe had a terrible habit of clawing the bottom stair until we removed the carpet from it. Bottom step is painted now and he no longer feels the need to scratch there.

FoxSticks · 30/06/2014 18:05

Eating wires and cables Angry
Hiding in dark corners and pouncing at my legs.
Not whacking the toddler when she man handles him, I wish he would claw her occasionally rather than sitting there with a put upon look on his face. He doesn't worry about clawing anyone else!

GemmaTeller · 30/06/2014 19:19

When you hear the yodelling that precedes projectile vomiting....

Ninetysixpercent · 30/06/2014 19:27

I got a little rescue cat last week and she does the same thing as yours OP. It's so annoying, I have to interrupt her. Have just ordered one of those covered trays with a door so hopefully will dim the sound a bit.
She also appears to be entirety nocturnal and runs around the house all night chasing her tail, her active time starts just as I'm heading to bed. Don't suppose anyone has any tips on how to remedy this? Don't all laugh at once now.

Canshopwillshop · 30/06/2014 19:29

Gemma - I love the way cats do that, it's hilarious (but only if you are fast enough between the yodelling announcement and the actual vomiting to move them off your best rug Hmm.

wigglybeezer · 30/06/2014 19:36

Everytime I try to chill out in the garden one of the cats joins me, which would be fine if it didn't result in Mr Blackbird belting out an incessant alarm call from the apple tree or garage roof until she goes back in, it is as bad as a car alarm!

GemmaTeller · 30/06/2014 20:46

Canshop but its soooo loud...

DH: 'what the hells that?'

Me: 'quick, find her, she's going to be sick'

DH: huh?

Me: 'FIND THE CAT!!!! ...... too late'

Why can't they be sick in the litter box instead of the farthest point under the bed

IAmANightOwl · 30/06/2014 20:59

Canshop wooden stairs are definitely the way to go with 'stair carpet obsessed' cats! Grin Juniper Oh I see, he's been doing it all his life?! Gemma My cat only does the yodel when she is ill and being sick, quite alarming isn't it? When it is a normal 'I've just eaten some greenery and need to chuck the contents of my stomach up' sick, she kind of makes a gagging noise before running to my lovely rug and throwing up Angry wiggly I am a big bird lover but that really annoys me too Grin Ninetysix My cat is the same, so soon after we got her we decided that she had to be confined to one room at night (I keep her in overnight) with all her creature comforts, like food, water, her bed and toys etc. She yowled about it for a while whilst she got used to it but now she is fine. Hope the litter tray with a lid will solve the problem for you - I had to get rid of mine because of the shitty tail incidents above ^^ Grin

Wees in the litter tray the second I change it. She actually hangs around waiting to get back into it.

Mine will wee in her tray while I am changing it. I take the cover off, she wees. I change the litter and she wees again.

ValarmorghulisArya what a tough time of the year for Ramadan. You must be ravenous by the time you get to eat.

Fishstix · 30/06/2014 23:15

She shits on the bed. That's pretty annoying.

IAmANightOwl · 30/06/2014 23:34

The Maine Coon scrapes around his bowl ineffectually when he has left some food. His bowls used to be on a mat, but he used to pull the mat from under the bowls, spilling water and pussy nobbles on the floor, and carefully balance the mat on top of the bowls and mess to cover it. (He has taught the grey kitten to do this too.) He occasionally gets a bodgy nut caught in his long tail fur, and manages to flick it off elsewhere in the house. When he does this, he heads for DD1's room, picks a used tissue off the floor and goes and places it carefully over the bodgy nut. Then he stands guard over it and mews until someone picks it up. He can't jump, and has fallen off the bed so many times that all of my sheets have a rip in the corner where he has almost made it and clung on until the sheet gives way.

The Grey Kitten pisses on any item of clothing left on the floor, and occasionally the bed or the bath mat.

Ruhrpott · 01/07/2014 00:05

If mine is hungry he climbs on windowsills, kitchen surfaces, lounge cupboards, anything with ornaments, keys, cameras, cat food, cat bowls, glasses, cups, jam jars, cups of coffee etc etc etc on and taps them with his paw until they crash to the floor. He knows then you'll come running to see what he has broken this time (and feed him!)

It's great when you are relaxing on the sofa and hear him pushing things with his paw and then the loud bang as they hit the floor in the kitchen.

Ruhrpott · 01/07/2014 00:19

And he climbs in your suitcase when you are trying to pack.

What does your cat do that instantly gives you the rage?
NanaaBananaaaZ · 01/07/2014 00:30

Four of mine aren't even Cats I don't know what they are but they just don't do normal cat things, I occasionally see them asleep scattered around the house or when they want feeding but they don't play or anything they are just so lazy Hmm

My kitten that I have had just over a week seems to have his own routine that I just can't budge , he has to eat at the same times and sleeps in between me and Dp every night since we got him , Oh and he wanders round the house yowling hello Hmm

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 01/07/2014 01:49

I have had cats for many years, and recognise many of these antisocial habits. I had already resolved not to have any more cats when ds found Mutant Cat close to death as a kitten, nine years ago, so I had no option but to save the wee bugger.

My "No More Cats" resolve is growing stronger with every post.

Once Mutant Cat passes. Which will be sooner than he thinks if he carries on being a fucking trip hazard

AbbeyBartlet · 01/07/2014 12:22

I do hope none of you get cross about these things though - your cat(s) should have you trained to find everything totally endearing and a reminder of how lucky you are to have them around! Grin

My old cat used to do the threat of projectile vomiting (for attention) - his whole body would ripple while he was about to yak, then he would just throw up the tiniest bit of water!

Canshopwillshop · 01/07/2014 12:44

AbbeyB - your old cat sounds like a right drama queen!

Iamblossom · 01/07/2014 12:48

parks herself right next to my ear when I am asleep in bed and proceeds to wash. Loudly. I wake up to the "lick, lick, lick" sounds - SO ANNOYING!!!
