Please hold my hand - he's been gone 36 hours

My beloved Scabbers. I know 36 hours isn't that long in the scheme of things, but it's unheard of for him - he comes home for tea every evening. I have a really, really bad feeling.
I sent him out yesterday morning as usual and he didn't once pop his head in all day, not entirely surprising as I was using a noisy power tool in the garden all arvo....then he just didn't come home. I didn't get a wink of sleep and I'm pretty certain something has happened to him. Neighbour hasn't seen him. Farmer hasn't seen him. I've rung the local cattery who will ring me back if he's handed in. I've walked up and down the road and the woodland track he goes down but nothing. Checked my sheds.
I have a ton of work to do this evening and cannot relax. Don't know what to do.
Thanks for listening x

Just to round off a great day (apart from the tooth breaking) Snowers has come for a cuddle!! He is so bloody similar to Millie it's unreal.
Unfortunately my wine glass is empty and I can't bear to move him!!

You've been nominated as Boss in Scabbers enforced (now) absence!

JonSnowKnowsNothing · 04/06/2014 21:15

Cozie, while scab was away, Snowers took to spooning me under the duvet!! Bet he forgets this now his buddy is back!!

Last update, have come up to bed. I placed Snowers' bed (the spotty one) also on top of the heated washing rack thingy, but he's decided he'd rather squeeze on next to his pal!!
I love them so much!

He loves the big boy doesn't he?

Hope Scabbers does well at the vet tomorrow. (It's difficult to tell whether he's subdued or desperately tired and missing sleep from having to stay awake to deal with potential trouble. He probably hasn't slept properly for days.)

krasnayaplats · 05/06/2014 00:12

So glad to hear he is back!

SecretWitch · 05/06/2014 00:39

I just found out your boy is home! Lovely! I am so happy for you..How dare our feline's treat us so poorly! I hope you both have a good night's rest. Xx

JonSnowKnowsNothing · 05/06/2014 22:26

Annoyingly, I haven't been able to take him to the vet today due to tuition and a course I'd helpfully forgotten about. Was interesting this morning though. He came down and ate but showed absolutely no interest in going outside! Very unusual but it suited me as I was keeping him in anyway. He seems fine now I've finally got home. Given him some catnip and he's happy as Larry.

Also made a new pal (oh god.) One of the feral farm cats was on my wall when I got home, looking rather pregnant... Fed her and she let me stroke her!! I'm going to talk to dickish farmer tomorrow about the kittens as, I'm not kidding, he will drown them. Angry

Cpl could neuter her for free, poor cat.

I've known kittens be drowned, not surprised it still goes on.

JonSnowKnowsNothing · 05/06/2014 22:40

What can I do, Fluffy? I cannot get her into a carrier, thats for sure! Also - she's not my cat, I guess technically she belongs to the farmer. And she looks BIG - I wouldn't imagine she has long to go....

Contact the cpl, they have traps. Even if you can't save this litter you can prevent more litters.

TCN will know about ownership of feral farm cats.

I'd buy some naice food for her and try to make friends, you might get somewhere with her.

Knowing you though you'd end up keeping all the kittens rather than re-homing them.

thecatneuterer · 06/06/2014 09:37

If you can stroke her you can get her into a carrier. You may need some help though (in holding the carrier and slamming the door closed). You need to take her very firmly by the scruff of the neck and, without letting go of the scruff, stuff her very firmly into a carrier BACKWARDS. If you can't manage that then borrow a trap. But you need to do this very quickly before any kittens get born.

Then get her aborted. Frankly it doesn't matter if she has an 'owner'. She won't have a chip so you can legitimately claim you thought she was stray if challenged. But no one is going to make any sort of complaint against you regardless.
