Cat coughing but not bringing anything up?

He's up to date with his jabs. I'm ringing the vet anyway because he's also limping on his back leg (probably a fight wound).

Ouch. Fingers crossed then. Is he eating and drinking?

RandomMess · 12/03/2014 20:17

Have to say cats shouldn't cough, it's actually a serious sign of unwellness in them.

Pleumonary infection?

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2014 20:30

Oh god I hadn't thought of that. She didn't listen to his chest today, he was thoroughly palpated all over & growled constantly so she wouldn't have heard anything if she'd tried.

Did she not at least listen to his heart, Fluffy?

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2014 21:00

No, he looks like crap so she did teeth, eyes, temp and felt all over the abdominal cavity & checked the leg he limped on.

I didn't mention the coughing! Bugger. He hasn't coughed since Sunday night though.

Well not 'coughing' since Sunday may mean it wasn't actually a 'cough' but an anxiety/adenalin type reaction to fighting/exertion?

JumpingJackSprat · 12/03/2014 21:48

I know it may be simplistic but my cat goes like this just before she brings up a huge hairball .. Once or twice a year.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2014 21:59

Yes that's true, moulting has already started.

Dh has gone to the spare room so the cat can sleep with me overnight.

Let us know how he is in the morning?

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/03/2014 08:08

Well he's eaten a small amount of food with his antibiotics, drunk some cat milk & used his tray to do a big wee and a tiny poo.

Now he's gone back in his basket & I have to go to work.

The tray use (especially the copious pee) and the food are encouraging. I've always found that the AB shots take a few days to really have an impact so wouldn't necessarily be expecting an overnight change - just being better would help. Worrying for you though.

cozietoesie · 13/03/2014 08:31

PS - and maybe keep an eye on the pooing situation. (Your mention of a tiny poo and his big belly reminded me.) If his leg is sore for some reason, he may have had a difficulty in performing so could be a bit bunged up inside if he hasn't pood for a bit.

cozietoesie · 13/03/2014 20:00

How's the boy doing?

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/03/2014 20:30

Very quiet but we've got his tablets down him & he's used his tray.

He usually gets better really quickly so now I'm wondering if it is pancreatitis.

Thanks for asking.

Did the vet run bloods? (I forget.)

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/03/2014 20:40

No. I think I have to give the course of antibiotics and see if it improves.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 13/03/2014 20:42

Keep a real close eye on him then. I'd be happier if bloods were run, I think. (Although I appreciate that that can cost a fair bit.)

Corygal · 13/03/2014 20:48

Hope your lovely little lad is back to peak form asap, Fluffy.

If it's any help Mr Cory sets up a week of coughing (often pre-dawn is the loudest) before he performs a furball. He also coughs for attention - ahem, madam - because he knows I always react to it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/03/2014 20:49

He's just done a fairly big runny poo with grass in it. Bit mucousy.

Think I might put some metacam on his food overnight.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 14/03/2014 16:53

Well he was sick four times in the early hours & bought his antibiotic back up.

Every dose he's either refused to eat the food or been sick now. He's had food with it in just now but picked around the heavily dosed areas.

He's not pooed all day & has only just done a wee.

I attacked what might of been a tick but I think it was maybe just a scab.

He is picking up but agonisingly slowly. He is not a happy boy at all.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 14/03/2014 17:08

I was going to ask him about him.

Vet again, I think?

cozietoesie · 14/03/2014 17:09

Too many hims there.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/03/2014 17:57

Yes it's not looking great. He's just eaten some more food so this dose just needs to stay down.

I wish you could just buy 5 single doses of antibiotic to inject at home.

Our cat coughs all the time and has done so for six years, it sounds like she smokes heavily but apparently it's asthma - she has an inhaler and spacer which is identical to the one my son got when he had croup.

cozietoesie · 14/03/2014 20:00

Is he keeping it down so far?
