Nothing to eat from 10pm tonight. OMG. I will be crying as much as her.

Good luck Sparkling Cat. DramaCat had a dental a few months ago - he's twelve.

The vet gave his teeth a good scrape & removed two of them, and DramaCat came through it all without a hitch. He has been eating us out of house & home ever since, even tucking into the dried stuff which he was never keen on before, probably because his teeth hurt.

In fact, I've just heard him come in through the cat flap. I can hear him yowling for his third bowl of food today...

Two of mine are booked in for dentals tomorrow too. I've decided it's going to be easier to take all the food away from all of them, rather than to try to confine those two in one room without any food. One of them doesn't have many teeth as it is, so she will end up totally toothless. I've got loads of toothless cats.

She only came back from the cattery yesterday. Yowled at high volume all the way in the car. She will be furious when she sees the carrier again.

Your poor starving cats catneuterer.

Back from feeding DramaCat who was noisily insisting he is starving .

Sparkling it wasn't too £££. Can't remember how much, but under ?100 (we're in Ireland, small country vet practice). I'm a bit at the prices quoted on here.

Hope it all goes ok.

PoppyCat has had two lots of dental work, extractions both times, and both times it was around the £200 mark.

Dentist said there wasn't anything I could really do to prevent it. Seriously, with her dental work and my DD's dental work, I spend half our income on teeth.

She was fine both times. She's about 13yo so I'm sure SparklingCat will be fine. Good luck!

My Cat is roughly 10 -12 year old and had his teeth cleaned 3 years ago and he was fine, I on the other hand was a nervous wreck!

He now has Royal Canin Dental biscuits from the vets and has not needed work since.

I think it cost £180.

We don't tell people to remove water at all Cozie. Other vet
recommendations may vary though ...

She doesn't drink much water anyway-due to the food pouches. Wine are the RC dental biscuits treats or proper food?

They are proper food, They cost £28 for a 3kg bag which lasts about 3 month.

Pets at home do lots of brands that are dental and are cheaper but I have a fussy cat who will not eat anything cheaper.

Like Thecatneuterer we also recommend water is available to make sure that they are really nice and hydrated prior to anaesthetic. Interestingly I had an anaesthetic this summer it was an afternoon surgery and I was asked to drink a minimum of 2 litres of water in the morning.

I wonder how poor Sparkling is getting on this morning. Looking after a real mean-spirited cat I guess.

Morning all. She was deposited at the vets at 9am. Checked over, thermometer up bum, weighed etc. She was good as gold though and didn't complain.

I have been told it will cost between £250 and £350 depending on what is found. I think my poker face fell off and 'Blimey' was said.

Anyway they are doing it last as it is a 'dirty procedure' so need to ring at 3pm for an update.

yes. I have to break the news to DH somehow. I turned down the pre-op blood test that was £40 so bit worried about that now.

Did they give you the reason for a blood test ? I would have thought that if it was critical to the success of the procedure, they would just have done it and added the cost to the bill. (Wondering here whether they just thought to do one on general principle - while she was woozy/out for the count and it was a lot easier.)

It would have been part of the pre-op stuff in addition to the external once over and was definitely given as a choice rather than an essential but I had to sign to say no IYKWIM.

£250-£350?? What is she having done?? Our boy had his teeth done about 2 years ago, he was 4 at the time, and it cost us £150, no extractions.

Seniorboy cost me over £200 two years ago on a Happy Smile Month or something. (He's older, though, so they had to have a lot of fluids and an extra vet nurse in attendance.)
