Good vibes needed for my kitty

The vet found a lump in her mouth today, she has to go back for a biopsy, but the vet thinks it's cancer and the prognosis is not good. Sad

Aw Dear. Good luck to you both. How old is she?

hugoagogo · 07/05/2013 19:29

we're not sure, she was a rescue cat we've had her about 5 years so at least 7, maybe older.

Well she's come through the op ok, I am picking her up soon.

Now we have to wait a week or so for the results.

Should I buy her any special food do you think?

Her mouth will be sore,I expect, she has chicken whiskas and I got some cat milk.

Catmint · 08/05/2013 20:20

Hope she is ok and able to feed. X

QueenStromba · 08/05/2013 20:38

Hope she's ok. Mashing her food up with a fork might help her eat. I do that for my girl who's missing about half of her teeth. Cat milk is definitely a plan to get some calories into her and it's fortified with the nutrients she especially needs.

hugoagogo · 08/05/2013 20:54

I mashed her food up, partly to encourage her not to just lick the jelly off. Hmm

She seems ok- a bit skittish, but ok.

I will get her some of the pate type cat food tomorrow, as the vet nurse said they would probably be best.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 08/05/2013 21:04

Seniorboy likes the pate - get Gourmet if you can because it's the smoothest.

Don't worry if she just licks the jelly off. That's better than nothing.

QueenStromba · 08/05/2013 21:47

I'm glad she seems ok. I'd be a bit skittish if someone had bored a hole in my mouth and I didn't know why so I reckon she's fine. Life would be so much easier if cats could understand English. I really hope it just turns out to be a random growth.

Our vet is convinced that Whiskas put the equivalent of kitty crack in the jelly because all of his patients have a tendency to lick the jelly off and leave the meat.

hugoagogo · 09/05/2013 15:01

I got a couple of different kinds, I think one of them is 'gourmet'.

I also got something lik-e-lix Hmm Which is a treat thing , but better than nothing and is supposed to be lappable (is that a word?) so worth a try.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 09/05/2013 15:10

Lappability (if it's not a word, I've made it one!) is very important. Ease of eating and getting liquid down both. If in doubt, mix it up with a little hot water to form a lukewarm glop. It's also good to ensure that the food is pretty fresh all the time so go for small amounts at frequent intervals.

Best of luck.

hugoagogo · 10/05/2013 22:05

Is it weird that she seems so much better?

Her appetite is improved, as is the snoring and dribbling, I know the vet gave her long acting anti inflamythingies, could they be doing the trick?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 10/05/2013 22:21

Probably, three of ours have had cancer, usually the nose in our cases.

Lets hope it's not cancer until the results come back.

cozietoesie · 10/05/2013 22:30

They could well be helping - but in any case, a good appetite is what she needs, however achieved.

florencedombey · 11/05/2013 23:09

One of mine had mouth cancer aged about 8 (rescue cat). An amazing specialist vet at a university vet school operated to remove part of his jaw. It sounds horrific and he was very poorly for a few weeks afterwards (feeding tube etc) but to look at him now you'd never know. So, don't give up hope just yet - vets can do amazing things and cats are resilient creatures.

hugoagogo · 12/05/2013 10:28

Oh that is heartening to hear florence [watery smile]

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 12/05/2013 10:53

How is she doing, hugo - still eating OK?

hugoagogo · 12/05/2013 11:09

She seems well, very vocal in her demands for food; she dragged me out of bed yesterday to feed her, how dare I have a lay in!. Grin

I am giving her lots of different kinds of food to try, even some kitten biscuits which she seems to be able to manage.

Sadly her beloved dreamies are now impossible for her to swallow.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 12/05/2013 11:17

Ah well. Try a tub of the Whiskas 'Crunchy' if you have an open supermarket near you. (Smaller shops will be unlikely to sell them.) They're much smaller than the normal biscuits and seem an acceptable treat.

When are you expecting the biopsy results?

hugoagogo · 12/05/2013 11:39

dreamies are the only 'treat' food she has ever bothered with, the cat next door got the whiskas crunchy when we tried it before. Hmm

She's eating well though, both pets at home pate's and the gourmet ones too.

They said it would be 5 working days, so tuesday or wednesday I think.

OP posts:
hugoagogo · 12/05/2013 11:40

That Hmm was for my fussy cat, not your suggestion btw.
