Can never decide whether a trip to the Vets is required......

But have booked her in for 5pm just in case. Hmm

Sparkling Cat has some sort of puncture wound. It's the sort of thing that if it was on me I would bung some Germolene and a Band Aid on. It isn't bleeding or anything. She's licking and licking it making her fur all soggy.

Is a trip to the Vets always necessary? I feel like I have to take her like a neurotic Mother at the Doctors.

Trust your instincts. You have booked an appt so go.
Even if they just clean the wound/check you did it properly it puts your mind at rest. Dirt in a wound can soon turn nasty so better safe than sorry imo.

Thanks Iseeall. I couldn't not take her IYKWIM, but I always wonder if it would heal up in it's own in time like we would.

Wish cats could talk, she could tell me if it hurts much.

It might well go to an abscess or something, Sparkling. Cat's claws and teeth are absolutely filthy so if she's been fighting........

It's hard deciding isn't it? I managed to stop myself making an appointment when mine was a bit sniffly but otherwise fine the other week - she stopped sniffling in a day or two. Do they do tetanus jabs for cats? I have gone to minor injuries in the past for a tiny cut which was caused by a rusty bit of metal because I knew that if I'd ever had a tetanus jab it was at least 20 years previously when I was a baby. Since you don't know what caused it I'd probably assume it was a rusty nail and act accordingly.

Yes, it's for the best I think cozie. She wandered around all morning in between licking, and has finally conked out on our bed which isn't her routine at all.

If she could talk I would tell her not to be so territorial Angry

I always try not to go unless I have to - just because its stressful for Seniorboy. (Although less stressful than it was a few years back when he hadn't seen a vet in years.) But if I have to........ then I'm there without hesitation.

Oh yes the yowling in the carrier. Sad Mum is coming with me to sit in the back with SC in the carrier and make soothing noises.

You big softies! I just bung Seniorboy in and tell him to be quiet. Dearly loved he may be but I'm not going to take the nonsense he used to put my Mum through.

Oh yes, I felt so mean taking Rice to see the vet at Battersea in the first week we had her because she wasn't too impressed with the taxi ride home and we were worried that she'd think we were giving her back. Turned out that she doesn't mind the train though and that she just sees the vet as someone else to fuss over her.

do your insurance company have an advice line? i've found that to be worth every penny of the premium because they've told me how to deal with things without the trauma and scratches of getting the terrified cat to the vet (not so macho now, eh, Archie?).
And with a £70 excess, the bill will be £80 so they can hike your premium for next year :-(

It's Direct Line Easter so i don't think so.

If say it came to £80 it isn't worth claiming for a tenner is it?

When TSSgirlcat had a puncture it went to an abcess. Top gross, MASSIVE Sporner!!!

If its near her head she started the fight, if its near her arse the other cat did according to my vet.

He was incidentally a vet at Pets at Home, I have to big them up for offering a Sunday service at normal vet prices. I was certain we'd have to sell the DC before we'd be able to pay a Sunday bill.

It's sort of in her 'armpit' of her front left leg so that must be six of one and half a dozen of the other TSS. Grin

YY we are with the Pets at home vets. The opening hours are very reassuring, and they are vv nice.

Sparkling Cat #1 (RIP) got bitten by a squirrel and had a huge abcess. it was gross.

definitely don't mention it to insurer if it's marginal because they'll beat you with it on renewal.

PS if they issue her with one of those great big lampshade collars, please make sure you post a picture of her looking really annoyed.

I like to have the insurance for any 'big' things that may happen like overnight stays or being mended IYKWIM Easter, I agree it's not worth claiming if it's around the excess figure or only a bit more. Sad

Definitely get a receipt for it anyway because if it ends up needing further treatment then you should be able to get it all covered by the one excess.

Thanks Queen hadn't thought of that, that's a good point. Blush I am hoping it will be an AB injection and a course of AB tablets, but I am worried in case there's something in the wound now.

An hour and a half to go and all will become clear hopefully.

Infected abcess, 2 puncture/bite wounds. Vet squeezed it, it stank. Sad Poor Sparkling cat.

She had a painkilling injection and antibiotic injection, and have both in tablet form for the next 5 days.

He didn't put anything on the wound and no lampshade.

Poor Sparkling cat - but at least she's been seen and got ABs, Sparkling. You were right to take her in.
