This morning she was coughing and has also had a sloppy bowel accident outside. She wasn't interested in breakfast even though I didn't come down until after 9 and she wasn't about when DH left at 7. He normally feeds her before he goes. I had to put the plate under her nose to get her to come and ear.

Her back legs are a bit wobbly and I will take her for a jab on Monday to hopefully get some relief. She didn't wee over night so that is postiive but when I was comforting her when she was coughing it really hit me that she is very old and isn't my baby anymore Sad.

She has lasted for DD's birthday but I am not sure she will make her own Sad.

I have just put a towel on the sofa for her to sit on, just in case, but she wasn't impressed and has jumped down on to the floor.

My cat is getting to the end of her life and I am not sure I will ever get over it Blush.

She means the world to me, is the only thing in the world that is 100% mine, and I will miss her so much.

Medics (of whatever speciality) can sometimes be like that, sadly.

I'd get into a dialogue with him next time you go. If he's changed his mind, check why - for instance did he think originally that they might affect her kidneys long term, which they often do ? If so, he should be doing blood work for her, I would have thought. (My own vet won't allow cozieseniorboy to have more than 6 month's worth without doing bloods and urine (although, she may let it go longer next time, who knows) and you know that he's of an age with FABcat.)

JustFabulous · 12/11/2012 19:56

She had bloods and urine last month. That was the £250 bill. Not impressed at paying £50 to have urine sent to the lab as he felt it looked suspect. Urine was fine. Kidneys are stable and much the same as the last time they were checked.

Well to be fair to him, that may be why he's happy to continue with the anti-inflammatories - having seen the results of the recent tests and knowing that she's weathering the meds well. You need to really talk to him, Just.

Good luck with her anyway - and her more vocal self!

Anyone there?

I'm late but here, is everything ok?

FlibberdeGibbet · 13/11/2012 18:46

Hi JustFab - had a quick scan of your recent posts and I'm so delighted to hear that FABcat has rallied! It is great news that she can jump on your bed!

BTW we have that cat bed - to my knowledge the only mammal that has graced in in the last year is a recently deceased mouse that one of my delightful kitties brought me as a gift.

JustFabulous · 13/11/2012 18:50

I am worried about FABCat.

DS2 stood on her paw but later she was limping on a different paw. When she has limped before it is normally gone very quick and she is fine.

She couldn't jump on to the sofa so I lifted her up and she has been here ever since. I am feeling guilty as she didn't have her jab today but dh said it is coincidence.

I don't want to make her walk or take her to the vet now as she doesn't like going out in the car at night. If she is still limping in the morning I will have to take her I think.

OP posts:
QueenofNightmares · 13/11/2012 19:00

Don't feel guilty Fab I agree with your DH its a coincidence and could be any manner of things. Honestly it would take more than a day for the jab to wear off.

Don't take her out tonight if she wouldn't be happy about it just keep her comfortable and see how she is in the morning. Could be that she's just feeling the cold a bit tonight and its causing her stiffness could be nothing more than a random ache or even a bit of sympathy seeking Smile

JustFabulous · 13/11/2012 19:04

She just jumped down gingerly and limped to the kitchen. I carried her the rest of the way to her water bowl but she didn't want a drink. I think she was hoping for food.

She definitely is struggling with her back end. Sad.

QueenofNightmares · 13/11/2012 19:20

Don't panic sweetheart there is no use in working yourself up right now when you need to stay call for her she'll only pick up on your stress.

If she's still after her food she's not in too much pain you can take comfort in that Smile As for her back end it could be that she's twisted herself while jumping from something or just running and its aching a little.

Either way you can't do anything tonight but keep her comfortable and help her out anyway you can i.e by helping her onto the sofa so she's comfy and forgiving any accidents that might happen.

Anyone with a long term illness is going to have their bad days when things hurt more I promise it's not your fault for not going with the jab as it would take longer to wear off than one day.

JustFabulous · 13/11/2012 19:23

She felt wet underneath when I picked her up too but she is sleeping now.

OP posts:
JustFabulous · 13/11/2012 20:26

She is still limping.

She was fine today. I don't see how DS2 could have hurt her this much that 4 hours later she is limping but what if he has. He is already worried though I have told him she will be fine and it isn't his fault.

JustFabulous · 13/11/2012 21:18

I've put her to bed. Wish me, and her, luck for recovery by the morning.

Good Luck, it's very very difficult when a beloved pet is ill. Will check this thread tomorrow to see how she is.

JustFabulous · 14/11/2012 07:11

She was waiting at her door when I came down and I gave her her meds and fed her. Scoffed down her breakfast Grin. I then watched her walk and she is still limping but not as bad as yesterday. I put her on the sofa but she jumped straight off. She seemed to fidget and move to get in a comfy position but DH said she has always been like that.

We have had a look at her paw and there is nothing in it. We touched both back legs and she reacted the same to both being touched in the same way, as if she was being tickled.

She is now curled up in the sofa and DD is worried as one eye is half the wize of the other. Rather than stress more I have decided it is because she is going off to sleep but I will check on her soon.

Not sure what to do. Could book an appointment but that is upsetting for her and if not needed, plus she would probably end up getting the jabs I postponed. I could ring and leave a message but the vet might not ring until mid afternoon. Or I could monitor her.

DH has said she is like an elderly human who can injure themselves from a small fall. FABCat is 18 and 2 1/2 months in human years so about 86 according to the chart at the vet.

JustFabulous · 14/11/2012 08:04

DH has said she is limping more like she was last night so I am ringing at 9 to tyr and get an appointment. I just hope our vet is in and has space. We saw 2 others before, one said she needed morphine and one said she would die by the weekend. That was months ago. No way is she getting her hands on my lovely cat.

Horsemad · 14/11/2012 08:14

Yeay! So pleased to hear she's eaten this morning.

JustFabulous · 14/11/2012 08:42

She is fast asleep and I really want to see her walk again before I ring. I just can't bare the taking her if she is okay as she is fine while there but then sleeps all day and I think it is the stress of the car journey.

She is very stoic. The vet thinks she had a stroke a while ago but just adapted and being like that makes it hard to know if there is something that needs attention or not as she just gets on with it.

OP posts:
Sunnywithachanceofshowers · 14/11/2012 08:59

I'm glad she's eaten, big hugs to you. I hope she improves.

JustFabulous · 14/11/2012 09:24

Apparently it is her arthritis and it could be because she didn't have her jab yesterday Sad[guilt emoticon]

OP posts:
QueenofNightmares · 14/11/2012 09:41

Don't you dare feel guilty Fab you were doing what you felt was right for her notice it could be because she didn't have the jab honestly I still think it would take longer than that to wear off.
If she's eaten and she's not complaining when you touch her back legs then I think its more likely what your DH says and its just a little thing thats set off her aches.

She is a very very old girl most humans would have a constant limp at FABCats age she's obviously not suffering an unreasonable amount. Think of it as being like you twisting an ankle. As long as she seems happy in herself, can eat and isn't in unreasonable amounts of pain then you are doing your best for her and shouldn't feel guilty I don't think I've ever known a cat as obviously well loved as she is.

JustFabulous · 14/11/2012 09:53

I have booked her in for tea time to have the jab she should have had yesterday. The receptionist said patients on catrofen have a very strict routine of having the jabs. I was told that one day woudn't make a difference when she was due every 4 weeks but had to be 4 weeks and one day later but if she was due the jab yesterday at 10, how come she was limping at 5.30pm? That is only hours after the 4 week mark. I don't begrudge her but there is a bit of me that is worrying that because they know how much I love her they are giving her things she doesn't need iyswim.
She ran out of seroquin a week ago, surely that is more likely the reason than the jab being late? As I thought that was just like a vitamin tablet I didn't order more as was going to wait and see. I have looked after her so well and now I feel I have lether down. No tablet, no jab.

OP posts:
QueenofNightmares · 14/11/2012 10:45

I know what you mean you're very dedicated to FABCat that is obvious to everyone reading this thread.

Where the Seraquin is concerned I think you're right and that would be the cause of her limping my JRT has it and it works wonders for him but he did go a week without it at one point and was back to limping on his back legs by the end of it.

You haven't let her down please don't ever feel you have, you've done so much for her and gone way beyond what most people would of done both financially and emotionally. I think most people would of PTS by now the fact you haven't shows how much you care about her and the wonderful spoilt life she's having with you Smile

JustFabulous · 14/11/2012 10:51

Thank you. I will definitely get her some serquin today and let her have the jab. I think I have to forget the initial decision about the jab being short term and go back to every month. I wanted her weighed as my scales say she has lost 3lbs so will take her in this afternoon.

The insurers are taking so long to pay us but I hope it won't always be like that.

It looks like 18 is the end of the road, eh?

Sad

(cozieseniorboy is 18. We lost his birth certificate when clearing my Mom's house but we know his age. He has been given Xmas Day as his Offficial Birthday. Him and the Queen.)
