Another FABCat thread. Sorry about that but DH and DCs are all busy and I want to chat

FABCat now has cancer on top of her other ailments. She is on medication for those and is doing really well. I think I have almost fully decided that she is not going to have surgery wobbles so really I need to know what is going to happen to her as time goes on and when is it time for the dreaded last trip to the vet?

Can I just have a strop here? I know she is 17, I know she is old, but it feels like I have only had her five minutes but at at the same time can't remember life pre my PFC. When ever she went, even at 25 years old, would be too soon.

She is Grin. She was runner up in a most photogenic cat competition once when ages about 2. So many memories..

Please can someone help?

FABCat it doing what the vet said she would but I can't remember what he said it meant. All around the area of where the cancer is she has groomed out the fur.

Is the tumour breaking through? She may need antibiotic cream.

JustFabulous · 25/07/2012 20:55

OMG I hadn't thought of that. The fur is gone and I can see skin. I don't want to touch her atm as I told dh to have a look and she didn't like him touching her. I don't want to upset her.

I just feel so sick as I feel the time is coming. I only got the diagnosis a week ago.

I keep looking at her and checking she is breathing.

I have made DH take loads of photos of her with his fancy pants camera. At one point she had had enough and walked off Grin.

Can you get an appointment tomorrow? Is there no chance she would survive surgery?
I feel for you. I have been there x

JustFabulous · 25/07/2012 22:10

Surgery isn't an option. She is a month off being 18 and has 3 other health issues as well as the cancer. I will be ringing the vet tomorrow. She hasn't even played with her new toy yet Sad.

Thinking of you today JustFabulous....

TangoSierra · 26/07/2012 13:55

Oh Fab, sorry to read this. Funnily enough I had wondered how fabcat was getting along. I have followed her threads for years! (under different namechanges).
It is really really sad when they go, but at least you will have prepared yourself a teeny bit that she won't go on forever.
I have had mine creamted, and not scattered the ashes. I have them in lovely carved tree trunk caskets (dogs and cats) and just keep them at home I feel they are still with me, and still say goodmorning and goodnight Blush

TangoSierra · 26/07/2012 13:56

not creamted, that sounds awful Shock cremated of course!

JustFabulous · 26/07/2012 16:50

I knew what you meant TS Smile

The spot is now much bigger and looks sore. She has groomed out at least a square inch of fur around the cancer site. She also weed on the floor again over night, the tablets are either not working yet or something else is wrong. I am waiting for the vet to ring back.

I was eating chicken couscous in the garden and she was laid next to me. She got up pretty quick and asked for some Grin. The other night she did the same and I was eating tomato pasta Confused.

Thank you GB Smile.

FABCat booked in for a couple of jabs on Monday. These will help, hopefully, with the inappropriate weeing and the enlarged spot at the cancer site.

OP posts:
TangoSierra · 26/07/2012 18:08

oh thats good. As long as she enjoys eating, sleeping and being stroked, I think the signs are she is happy Smile

TangoSierra · 26/07/2012 18:09

Do you have other animals Fab? Or just the FABcat?

JustFabulous · 26/07/2012 18:11

I have fish and guinea pigs as well as a husband and a few kids Grin. We have had hamsters too in the past.

The vet isn't worried about her at the moment.

I had to get up as I had a cat crying and then again, worse, like there was a fight going on. FABCat doesn't appear to be injured and still has enough attitude to refuse the breakfast I have given her. I had forgotten she doesn't like Whiskas tuna. I am sure she used to eat it until DS2 gave her the dish of tuna rather than the dish of juice drained from it I had asked him to give her...

Another puddle on the floor over night so there is something going on that the tablets are not helping with.

Hows she doing fab?

JustFabulous · 27/07/2012 15:44

Currently Madam is asleep in the floor. She has eaten some breakfast eventually and DH and I spent a long time while out looking for food we thought she would eat. I spend more time choosing her food that stuff for DH and the DCs.

Vet is booked for Monday morning and I will see what he thinks.

Still hasn't played with her new toy. I don't think she likes it so I might give it to the neighbour's kitten.

I just don't know what I am waiting for to know she needs the hardest but kindest decision to be made Sad.

OP posts:
TangoSierra · 27/07/2012 15:48

I am sure your vet will guide with any decisions which may or may not need to be made.

He won't recommend you keep her going if he felt it was not in her best interests though.

JustFabulous · 27/07/2012 15:54

I asked the vet if he would tell me and he just said I would know.

OP posts:
TangoSierra · 27/07/2012 15:58

oh, that's not particularly helpful.
In a way, yes, you do know but sometimes we let our hearts rule our heads and therefore a vet's guidance is necessary. If she is still perky enough, and having a bite to eat and still drinking, then I personally think she is not in pain or distress. The weeing may just be a general decline into a little OAP bless her.

JustFabulous · 27/07/2012 16:02

She is eating and drinking pretty much the same as she has done for the last year.

I think DH would tell me though. I am struggling with the uncertainty and every morning I have to get up the minute I am awake to check on her. No wonder I am knackered.

OP posts:
TangoSierra · 27/07/2012 16:09

yes, I know it's so hard, having been there myself. First thing you worry about in the morning and last thing at night. Sad

JustFabulous · 27/07/2012 16:16

When did you know it was time? Is it all about the not eating? FABCat once left most of 3 meals in the row (still had biscuits) because she didn't want that brand/flavour.

DH has just called through to say she likes the new cat food we got her. It is ££££ Grin
