Where did you get your cat from?

We got ours from the cats protection several years ago and are now looking for a kitten. We found the perfect moggies before and I'm waiting to see/hear what they have at the moment but have been looking around to see what's available (lots of black kittens!). We live in the Midlands and are looking for a short hair pedigree X.

From a policeman! My friend has her sister (picture on profile Smile)

bonzo77 · 01/06/2012 22:41

2 previous ones from RSPCA and current one from gum tree. She's black and white and petite and I'm a bit in love with her. Blush

Molesworthiscool · 01/06/2012 22:45

One from the local cat rescue organization and one from friends of friends.

QOD · 01/06/2012 22:49

Mines a short hair black boy with yellow eyes, he's adorable and we were specific n wanting that.
Our second cat was run over at about 1yr old, we'd rescued her from cats protection too, she was black short hair yellow eyes and such a character ! Talky and funny and played fetch.
Think it's part Burmese?
Dh is allergic to cats and short hair blacks are easiest to get used to, our boys sets him off occasionally and dd too when she gets her face right in the cat!

crazynanna · 01/06/2012 23:10

My black kitten has yellow eyes too,QOD Smile

Funny how so many people seem to have the perfect cat.

We have, too. From RSPCA. Vocal, brave, affectionate, plays dominoes, beats up the dog.

Tummy on legs Grin

littlekitty4 · 01/06/2012 23:53

we have 3 adorable cats all from our mummy cat that turned up pregnant and just invited herself in and been her ever since 1 b/w 2 ginger and tortie mum love them all

sashh · 02/06/2012 07:52

All the cats I have had have found me. My latest followed a neighbour home from the GPs - couldn't find an owner, no microchip and within a week she was mine.

I still feed a stray, but she is not keen on him, I actually think he could be her father.

Acumenoop · 02/06/2012 08:27

From the Post Office! His mum wandered in, pregnant and starving, and the posties looked after her.

suburbandream · 02/06/2012 09:23

I've never understood why people don't like black cats, they are beautiful - is it to do with spooky/witchy connotations?? DS2 was dead set on having a white cat, but we didn't realise that they can be prone to deafness. There was a gorgeous white 8-year old deaf cat at the cattery, he had one blue and one yellow eye. I sooo wanted to have him but as we were first-time cat owners we were a bit worried about our lack of experience Sad. In the end we had no choice - our male cat chose us, there was no way he was letting us go home without him Grin

AdventuresWithVoles · 02/06/2012 09:32

Black cats are just so dull to look at! I have 2 black cats (orange eyes), but mine are very good tempered which mattered almost more than anything else. From CPL. They had twice as many black cats as other cars when we were looking.

tabulahrasa · 02/06/2012 09:44

Aw, black cats aren't dull, my Siamese is effectively beige, how much blander can you get? Lol

qazxc · 02/06/2012 10:02

My full time cat is from a mad cat lady that was moving and had to get rid of her 30+ cats. But i also take in a foster cat or kitten from my local animal rescue.
I did have 2 cats (the one i have now and one from Animal Rescue). But 1 had to be put to sleep. she came from animal rescue. They let me long term foster to make sure that she would get on with my first cat and that all was well before we signed on the dotted line. I would recommend that.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 02/06/2012 10:23

Previous one from breeder as wanted a Bengal but we lost him to fip after a month so now have 2 gorgeous naughty tabbies from an ad on pets4homes....

Always had nighties before with no issues and these two are fab.... Eating playing and so cute .... Healed some broken hearts very quickly for DCs too....

They're lovely... Mum was a rag doll and they were an accident litter....

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 02/06/2012 10:23

Moggies not nighties bloody iPhone Angry

Lawrene8 · 02/06/2012 10:29

Ours from DH client. They were free to good homes. Ours are black & White and I can't see why people don't get cats based on the colour! What are they trying to match them to, the sofa or the curtains!

ornellaia · 02/06/2012 10:40

Our big cat came from a small, local rescue. He was fostered in somebody's home and is easygoing, friendly and no hassle to own.

Our little cat (the pedigree) came from a breeder, a very lovely lady who shows occasionally and breeds the odd litter. This cat is a total PITA, she is extremely demanding and refuses to poo in a litter tray.

I don't think I'd get a pedigree again, I'm fairly sure they're all weirdos.

naturalbaby · 02/06/2012 13:49

Oh dear...I've just found ragdoll kittens on Pets4homes. They are absolutely not what I was after but I grew up with Birmans so am really tempted. Our older cat is so low maintenance it's like we don't even have a cat so I'd like more of a companion but not sure if a Ragdoll would be too much when I've got 3 under 5's to look after.
I still want a black one though, wish cats protection would hurry up so we can go see what they've got.

My black cat came from the RSPCA.

She's lovely.
So friendly, but totally refuses to sit on a knee!

Black cats are my favourite, they always look neat. Smile

jubilucket · 02/06/2012 14:02

Jubileecat came from a lady who'd found her very pregnant mother mewing in her garden and thrust the four resulting kittens into to the arms of anyone who would take them. My mum was one of them, but mum's dog nearly ate jubileecat, so she passed her on to me. I luff jubileecat, she's very good at purring on laps and caught three rats for me last night.

This week I visited a household with 7 (yes, SEVEN) Ragdolls.
Most of them rescues, too.
Owner said that they are often bought as fashion or designer cats by people who subsequently find out they are still cats. Hmm £400 each. More money than sense, I guess!

Floppy friendly cuddly cute but huge & so so so hairy. With young children in the house I could not physically prevent them from going out, either. To be fair whilst the house was stuffy it did not stink of cat poo as I would have expected it to.

naturalbaby · 02/06/2012 15:12

Going out is our biggest problem, we have no way of getting a cat flap anywhere and couldn't keep it in with our back doors and kids.
I'm worried about getting another 'rubbish' cat, I love our boy dearly but he has major ishoos and spends all day under our bed, all night all over our bed.

tabulahrasa · 02/06/2012 15:19

Ragdolls are supposed to be too thick unstreetsmart to be out.

My Siamese goes out though, not as much as my little moggy to be fair, but that's partly due to the age difference of them. I don't have a cat flap either, I just let them in and out.

Trizelda · 02/06/2012 15:25

Gumtree....but you have to be quick. 4 kittens sold in less than 2 hours.
