Eeeeeeeeeeeeee! This is her 5th litter, yet she still won't let me leave her side (she's a bit odd). She began nesting yesterday morning and the contractions began about 10 minutes ago.

Sad so sorry

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2012 18:51

Oh Viking, I am so sorry. That is very upsetting and very unproffessional of the vet.

VikingVagine · 02/05/2012 19:08

Thank you.

What brought you to make this decision? Was it the thought of her possibly having more kittens?

SoupDragon · 02/05/2012 19:13

Oh, I"m so sorry to hear this :(

JKSLtd · 02/05/2012 19:46

So sorry :(

issey6cats · 02/05/2012 20:27

im sorry things have turned out so bad for you but cant understand the vet giving two lots of anesthesia, i had to have my cat PTS recently (total kidney failure) and the vet was very sympathetic and gave her one injection and she just gently went to sleep and she was gone in about 20 seconds

crazynanna · 02/05/2012 22:18

Sad I am actually crying reading this.

So,so sorry x

timtam23 · 02/05/2012 23:58

I'm so sorry about your mummy cat and little kitten...your experience at the vets sounds awful, I have no recent personal experience of an animal being PTS but had assumed a vet would make it peaceful for the animal and not distressing for the owner...Sorry again for the tough few days you've had Sad

ripsishere · 03/05/2012 07:26

That's awful. I've had several cats PTS. Every single time was the was issey described it. They just went to sleep.
I would seriously consider making a complaint about the heartless twerp. I would also consider not paying the fee.
Git.

VikingVagine · 03/05/2012 07:48

I'm in France, and here they give the animal a first injection to knock them out, then they give them a lethal injection straight into the heart. I had to have my dog PTS a few years ago and it was done this way too, only we waited at least ten minutes before the second injection, it was all very peaceful and it all happened in my arm.

I made the decision to have the mum PTS for several reasons: she was searching for her baby and it was heartbreaking; because of this stress her eczema was even worse (she was bleeding from several different patches); she looked uncomfortable, licking herself almost non stop; and I talked to DH about it and we decided that it wasn't fair on anyone to have to for through the kitten thing again (DS is old enough to understand, but DD is only 30mo and still asks where the kitten is).

I don't regret making the choice to put her to sleep, but I feel so guilty about seeing her suffer and not being able to make it a calm and painless experience for her. She trusted me so much Sad .

Viking you did the right thing. It is heartbreaking what happened at the vets though. I don't know whether complaining would make you feel any better.

VikingVagine · 03/05/2012 08:04

If I were in the UK I would have complained, but here it would be completely pointless.

Have you got things to do today to keep you occupied and your mind off it?

ripsishere · 03/05/2012 08:05

You did your best.
When I had a cat PTS in Oman, they did that two stage injection thing. Poor old Fanny was hallucinating according the vet - also French. DH was very distressed by it and asked her to get the animal calm.
Vet then gave the second injection but not into the heart.
When we had to have her brother done, we asked that he was just PTS, none of the fannying around.
Look after yourself.

Northernlurker · 03/05/2012 08:09

Oh how sad. Look - you made the best decision you could. Don't reproach yourself.
I would find a new vet for your other cat though.

VikingVagine · 03/05/2012 08:20

There is another vet (there are two in our town) who we will now be going to. I will also be telling everyone I know that they might want to avoid the other one, that's about as much as I can do.

Am at work now, am going to focus on that, and when I get home my three other kitties will just have to put up with excessive cuddles for a while.
