I'm amazed! Have had her for six yrs and never known her to fart before. She was sat on my lap at the time.

I thought she was a lady, she never destroys anything, v rarely pukes, never brings presents of dead mice etc in fact all she does is eat, sleep and purr.

At least I know she's not anally retentive.

Am v proud! :)

I fondly remember laying my head lovingly, gently, on our cat's belly once when she was dozing, half asleep, and she went pfffrrrtt and let off the most foul-smell in my face ever. I never did that again, at least not facing the rear end...

purpleknittingmum · 30/12/2011 20:04

Oh I got the pleasure of my cat's first fart this morning! My OH and daughter have heard him fart before but he seems to have never done it in front of me!

I was brushing him, which was good to start, then I moved on to the tail which he isn't keen on and wriggled a bit, and I was trying to hold him and, it gets worse.......my finger was right near his bum!!

whomovedmychocolate · 30/12/2011 20:07

My cat only farts after eating voles.

pinkyredrose · 01/01/2012 11:14

Purple, the first fart experience is a bit disconcerting isn't, you can't quite see them.in the same pure light again!

My poor girl threw up last night too (too many treats I think), at least that'll be it for another yr!

Yes, I didn't believe my OH and daughter, they have seen and heard him fart loads of times! The one I got was a right squeaky one as well!! Ick!

One night, he was on our bed, he let rip and my OH at first thought it was me doing it in my sleep! Then he did it again and was obviously disgusted by his own smell and scarpered!

Hope your girl is feeling better soon!

Piggles · 01/01/2012 13:19

We have two cats. One cat 'belongs' to me, the other 'belongs' to DH. I use the term 'belongs' loosely, as the cats think we are just a couple of rude buggers who have the nerve to live in their house and ocasionally make ourselves useful by opening cans and doors.

But I digress.

My cat farts a fair bit - usually after a squirrel, rat or rabbit binge. She doesn't care who she farts at, or where she is when she drop sone - she just parps and stinks the place out... and then usually legs it off to somewhere less smelly.

DH's cat until recently had never farted in front of him, so he has been labouring under the delusion that it is just my cat which is a stinker, and that his cat is a proper nice lady. Hah! She sat on his lap and then really let rip a couple of days ago... and then turned to look at him in disgust before sauntering away. Leaving him choking in a kitty-bum-fug. That showed him Grin

It is handy having a cat who is known for farting - very easy to blame my wind on them if need be, as they don't argue Grin

LynetteScavo · 01/01/2012 13:25

Are you all talking about noisy farts, or silent but deadly ones?

pinkyredrose · 01/01/2012 16:34

Purple just re-read your first post, did you actually feel your cats fart like wind on your finger?! (She's feeling alot better now thanks, she's asleep on my bed)

Piggles- kitty bum fug, haha!!

Lynette - well both really, my cats particular fart was silent but violent, if she did a really loud lino ripper though I'd never be able to look at her in the same way again

OP posts:
purpleknittingmum · 01/01/2012 17:24

I sort of felt it, not the wind itself but the sensation of it coming out! :o

pinkyredrose · 01/01/2012 17:25

Aaargghh, kitty fart vibrations!!

OP posts:
pinkyredrose · 01/01/2012 17:29

Actually my old cat God rest her soul could fart for England. She'd let off silent killers one after the other for ages.

You'd think you were safe but then you'd get another wave of cat arse gas. They were so strong I swear you could taste them.

BibiBlocksberg · 03/01/2012 20:14

This thread made me Grin

When I first took on one of my cats (neglected stray) she'd sit on my lap farting the smelliest gasses I've ever encountered.

On top of that she drooled excessively when happy.

Remember thinking 'great, I finally get a cat after years of longing for one and of course I'm stuck with the dribbly stinker Grin

Happy to say the farting went but the dribbling is still there and my other cat snores loudly all night.

Oh well, can't win em all :)

crazynanna · 03/01/2012 20:19

When kitten sleeps on my knee,my leg gets a 'hot flush'...then the smell hits ya! Envy

BibiBlocksberg · 03/01/2012 20:27

More laughter from me @ hot flush on the leg :)

Always thought only dogs farted til got my cats.

Mind you, at least cats don't look round proudly at you as if to say 'that was a good one, did you like it'? like some dogs do.

Not farting related but are any of your kitties absolutely horrified at their own sick?

Both of mine, immediately after the sick has left their mouths will jump away from it and look at the steaming produce with a horrified look that seems to say 'wtf is THAT?' 'I'm not coming back til that's gone!

Thank you darlings, without you I'd never get to use my endless supply of carrier bags and disposable gloves :)

Piggles · 04/01/2012 02:26

Grin at hot flush on the leg.

That has reminded me though of the occasion my cat sat on my lap, farted and followed through with a little squeaky bubble of turd - which left a chocolate starfish on my jeans! Envy

I suppose my dastardly farting poo-bubbling cat is really very good in that she is not sick indoors - never has been yet that I know of. She sometimes eats grass and upchucks outside, but never indoors. DH's stupid cat however... well she makes up for it as if she is hungry she has a really bad tendency to gobble loads of food really fast and then a few minutes later - up it comes!

She is not disgusted by her sick though and always has a good sniff at it, indeed I have had to stop her from re-eating it more than once Envy again.

Someone remind me why we have cats? Disgusting little buggers they are Grin

Jacksmania · 04/01/2012 05:37

When my beloved Bucky-cat (he's been dead two and a half years now) was a tiny kitten, I got him from the Humane Society (was studying in the US at the time). He was in rough shape. Had ear mites, worms and wonky eyes. I had to clean out his ears twice a day with this horridly smelling antiseptic solution by soaking a bit if muslin with it and sort of screwing it into his ears. I remember the bet telling me that if I felt like I was cleaning out his brain I was doing it right :o

Anyway, he had pills to treat his worms and the vet said they might give him a smelly bum. HA!!! He'd be lying on my lap with his poor little distended belly, and every so often his bum would do a soft little "pop" followed by the most vile-smelling sulphurous STINK - I'm amazed that he didn't fart little green mushroom clouds. They were truly toxic.

What was astonishing though was that he used to sleep tucked up under my chin (I'm a side sleeper) and he never farted while sleeping thank fuck.

I used to warn friends over to study not to let the farty kitten. Nobody ever listened. :o

Jacksmania · 04/01/2012 05:39

The vet. Not the bet.

And he lived nearly to age 14, with a bunch of congenital problems. Best cat I ever had.

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 09/01/2012 14:00

I've got a pair of brothers. Grey head tends to be the windy boy although I've never heard it.
Ginge is sitting beside me on the sofa, he is very affectionate and walked over the arm of the sofa, rubbed his face on my jaw, carried on over the back of the sofa then, when his arse end was level with my nose, farted.
I never heard it. I just smelled the most noxious maloderous stench. Believe me, I know maloderous from my time as a nurse.

pinkyredrose · 09/01/2012 20:44

Kreecher, maybe that was his way of telling you he loves you!

Bibi, my cat snores too, it's so cute! At least your's stopped farting eventually.

Piggles, can't believe she followed through! Shock hope it was just the once!

Jacksmania, ah you gave your kitty a lovely home and he repaid you by letting you have non toxic sleep!

Thesea are ace, I do love a good fart story especially when it's cats!

DontCallMeBaby · 09/01/2012 22:33

One of mine is a stinky boy, though not as bad as when he was a kitten. He had the squits for a few weeks when we first got him, did once follow through while sitting on me, and occasionally craps down his own back legs. He once literally shat himself while being menaced by the neighbourhood bully cat. While his brother has the occasional retching session but never seems to bring anything up, dodgy-bum cat can only deal with hairballs by bringing up his ENTIRE stomach contents. On a less disgusting but infuriating note, he spent the whole of last night attempting to sleep on either mine or DH's faces, but today won't let me stroke him.

However, he is my boy, and I wuv him. :o

BibiBlocksberg · 09/01/2012 23:24

Yes, the pooey leg/arse scenario - only had it occasionally with one of mine but when I was busy with a cat clamped between my knees trying to clean his starfish with some wipes I do remember thinking they don't show you this in those 'give this lovely lonely kitty a home adverts' Grin

crazynanna · 09/01/2012 23:26

My kitten often gives me a skiddy on my PJ bottoms

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 10/01/2012 07:29

I've got off lightlly then.
bibi, just out of interest, why would you be trying to clean his sherriffs badge rather than let him do it himelf?

DontCallMeBaby · 10/01/2012 16:43

IME a cat cleans its bum as a recreational activity (or a comment on your conversational skills) rather that to get clean. So a kitty can do a lot of starfish-prints before finally deciding it's Arse-Licking Hour.

Also, while stinky cat will eventually clean his bum, he's quite capable of overlooking the shit down his leg for DAYS if left to his own devices. Sigh.

BibiBlocksberg · 10/01/2012 19:53

"bibi, just out of interest, why would you be trying to clean his sherriffs badge rather than let him do it himelf?"

Grin

Errm, yeah, I usually let them clean their own rusty badge but on a couple of occasions he's had what I call 'clinkers' - dried on bigg-ish pellets of shit that just haven't shifted - by day two of Mr Dirty Arse I take them off since they will be lounging around on my sofa and bedding.
