I am worrying about my cat again [sad].

She just took ages to get half up to then settle down and didn't seem to know what to do with her front right paw. Then after a minute she got down off the sofa and went out of the room.

She is 16. Her kidneys are failing, she has arthritis and has hypoestesias. She is on 4 tablets a day and special food. I am taking her for an extra check up this evening as she wasn't very well at all last week and had lost weight. She looks like she might have lost more Sad.

The vet said we are not at that point yet but part of me worries we are but he doesn't want to say as he knows how potty I am about her. She did play a bit yesterday though and is eating the new food we had to buy her after refusing to eat anything else.

I have to take her in on Saturday.

She might have a skin irritation and with her brain problem it will bother her more than a cat without it. We can up her meds for that though as she is on a low dose already.

The vet said he will be able to tell if she is in pain but she is always so good at the vet I worry she masks it.

She has bitten me twice this even when I was checking her skin.

I wonder if I am fussing too much.

Poor old thing!

Can you make a video on a phone which you can show him of her behaviour which you worry about? I suspect, though, that vets are hard to mislead, and cats are not renowned for hiding their feelings, so I think he probably will be able to tell. Do a video if you can though, because you will feel happier if you know he has seen her like that.

I videoed her the other day when she was grooming a lot and it also showed where I gently stroked her when she went for me. FABCat is always so good at the vets we are worried she will hide being in pain. She is asking for breakfast now so that is good and I will feed her.

Damn fireworks. FABCat is scared Sad.

Poor fabcat.

JuxAlittleSparkler · 04/11/2011 23:59

We've not had many, but expect lots tomorrow. Wanted to go to an organised display but we have never managed to find one round here - used to go to the Met Police training place, when we were in London, absolutey brilliant!

Great for people, v bad for cats. They need us to return to the days of Ancient Egypt when they were worshipped properly with temples 'n' everything Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 05/11/2011 08:15

FABCat has ripped loads of paper up overnight but she is fine now. She has had some breakfast (really didn't want her tablets), has had lots of stroking and is settling down for a nap. It's been a long day Grin.

Wish us luck for this afternoon [worried].

Hope it goes well this afternoon, FAB.

TheOriginalFAB · 05/11/2011 16:23

FABCat jumped when the vet examined her hocks, which made him jump. He stopped examining her then! I have bought Feliway to help calm her and have been told to double her anti inflammatory medicine. I have to give her a week and phone the vet if she doesn't improve. We are limited as to what we can do as her kidneys are failing Sad. I feel like she is trying to tell me something some times.

OP posts:
Onemorning · 05/11/2011 16:54

I'm sorry it wasn't brilliant news, FAB. I hope the increased meds and Feliway make her feel more comfortable.

TheOriginalFAB · 05/11/2011 17:02

I hope so too. I am scared she is suffering too much but the vet said we are not at that point yet.

That's good news, FAB. Fingers crossed and lots of un-MN hugs.

TheOriginalFAB · 05/11/2011 17:10

She just bit and tore the newspaper. DH hasn't read it yet..

Feliway is really good, I used it when we moved house. Hope it calms poor old FABcat down and helps her. Sad

Is she eating today?

TheOriginalFAB · 06/11/2011 13:48

Hi

Yes, she has eaten some breakfast but I would have liked her to have eaten more. She has put weight on though and the vet is pleased with that but I have just sat down and seen she has ripped up my magazine at some point today Sad. I am wondering how long it takes for the higher dose of meds to kick in. It is the same medication she has been on for a week but double the amount.

DH has plugged the Feliway in a socket in the hallway but shouldn't it be plugged in in a room she spends most of her time in?

JuxAlittleSparkler · 06/11/2011 14:09

Depends on the layout of your house. We keep all our doors open and have a staircase which leads straight up to every floor without cunning little twists and turns. We have a plug in on each floor, but I do have an extra one in the sitting room. Probably overkill, but hey.

Mind you, they've all run out and need changing, but our problem is pretty much solved now (needed to placate QueenD whose nose was put badly out of joint when MadKittenAlienCatcher arrived).

Don't get it from the vet next time though. It's horrifically expensive from there and you can get exactly the same stuff over the Internet much more cheaply.

I wish I'd thought of Feliway before - really sorry I forgot about it. I've only used it in the above situation.

TheOriginalFAB · 06/11/2011 14:40

We did look in the local pet shop but they didn't have one so got it from the vet so we could start using it straight away.

OP posts:
JuxAlittleSparkler · 06/11/2011 15:51

That's what we did, too. Local pet shops don't have it - or I've never come across any that do. Internet and shop around there, the prices can vary from each place as well. I think I got our last refills via Amazon, but the one's before that from somewhere else.

TheOriginalFAB · 06/11/2011 16:28

I don't know how much the vet charged but on line it was £18. She hsa just had some tea and is washing her face now Grin.

OP posts:
JuxAlittleSparkler · 06/11/2011 18:57

I think our vet sold it to us for getting on for £26 and then 20ish for refills. Even if you're only saving £2 on a refill, you need one a month. If they help FABcat then that's a lot of months....

TheOriginalFAB · 06/11/2011 18:59

TBH I don't think she has months and the insurance might reinburse us anyway.

OP posts:
JuxAlittleSparkler · 06/11/2011 22:51

Sad sorry fab.

TheOriginalFAB · 07/11/2011 12:23

I wish Saturday would hurry up as the vet said it would take a week for the pain relief to work. FABCat has been ripping up the paper I left for her and my magazine over night/this morning.

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 08/11/2011 07:28

FABCat has been ill overnight and torn up some paper but she has eaten some breakfast and had her meds and is now curled up next to me. I am full of cold so I plan a quiet day curled up with her watching The Jury I recorded last night.

Have a good day. Sounds lovely and I am envious.
