Ooh forgot to answer rucksack packing, which I have taken years to perfect:
Small first aid kit, including ibuprofen gel, compeed pads, lip balm (which I also put between my toes to stop rubbing), steroid cream for insect bites and factor 50 suncream in a small tube.
Spare shoe lace
money for pub/tea and cake
high vis jacket, in case of emergency, as I often walk alone
spare warm layer - a thin merino long sleeve top
water camel
waterproof jacket and trousers
hat/gloves, even in summer, as I get chilled when I stop for a break
lunch/cake/chocolate
map and specs to read said map
sunglasses
phone set to gps for distance tracking and to use as camera

BProud I love Wolfescote Dale....one of the wilder ones. We do a lovely walk there also taking in Biggin dale and Hartington. Such a lovely area.

EnjoySmile

Hey everyone came back! Grin

Bproud Wolfescote Dale looks like a beautiful walk! I've been doing layers too and am never without my pink bobble hat (I am the least 'pink' person I know but this hat made me smile so I got it) I probably definitely look ridiculous in it but I don't care! I expect you know this but there are apps that you can set that show exactly where you are and your route if you're walking alone, just as a safety precaution (in case you break your leg and get trapped in a ravine or something)
I need some sunglasses because my eyes get really sensitive to light (I'm more likely to need them on grey bleak days than sunny days)

Scoop are you off anywhere this weekend?

Flask and biccies. Water. Map. Compass but still need to learn to use one properly. Waterproof. Hat gloves. Lip salve. Tissues and, these days, specs to read the map!
It rather depends on how far I'm going, but I barely go to the local park without a bottle (sigg) of water.

Happy walking all Smile

That's great Scoop! Hope the weather holds out for us all.

I expect pics and a full report Grin

On a side note I noticed yesterday that my thighs (which have always been doughy, voluminous tree trunks) have slimmed right down and under my bum, my saddle bags have really diminished. I've always hated my legs so I am marvelling and the shape they are taking!

Help! I think I've accidentally "hidden" this thread, it doesn't appear in my threads I'm watching list (although it says I'm watching 3 only 2 Are visible..) and I keep having to go back to the original thread and clicking on the link to get back here. Anyone super mumsnet users got any suggestions?

Oh great news on the legs Sir Ray!

Lets....exactly the same happened to me re the illusive thread vanish....it came back after logging out and back in. No clue why though. Sorry can't help more.

SRC ....I feel inspired after reading about the legs....I'm going to do extra bum clenching when walking those roaches on Sunday and see if I can get a body liftBlush

Hmm. Tried that ( the logging in and out, not the buttock clenching) very odd. I am just leaving the previous thread open now in another window so I have the link handy.

Thank you Letsgo and Scoop!
I am not claiming that I will be wearing hot pants any time soon but I was genuinely shocked that my roll of fat just under my bum was hardly there any more (I know, I sound divine don't I? Grin)
I think it's 100% down to fast walking which I do during the week and then when we've gone out at the weekend I've tried to incorporate hills so but believe me, for decades my arse has had the appearance of a carrier bag of porridge and now since I've done 3 weeks of around 20 miles a week of fast walking, it's all firming up!

" a carrier bag of porridge" Smile
Swimming is good too! Does wonders for boobs Wink

I glimpsed quickly and thought you were adding a carrier bag of porridge to the contents of your rucksack - could be messy!

I also find the legs firm up very quickly, just need to cut down on my sugar addiction to have the same effect on my waistline.

Hello again. Had a dc free day off on Monday and went for a lovely walk with DP from the Carding Mill.Valley just outside Church Stretton. About 10 miles. Was lovely but bitter on the tops. Was glad had no dc with us and wished I had a buff. My pashmina not really as good. Ached so much the next day, am so unfit compared to pre dc!

Letsgo I was actually thinking about going swimming this week. I haven't swum for ages though and it's knackering isn't it? I'm limited to what I can do as I had an abdominal hysterectomy last July and can't lift weights etc and normally get tired quickly but swimming is meant to be very good.

Bproud Now that WOULD be messy! Grin I love sugar, that's my downfall, once I start I can't stop and I will eat a whole family bag of sweets on my own. Sad

Chemin Well done for getting out!! It's lovely to get out and I really loved it when DH and I went out the first time. Thanks to suggestions on here I had a buff (albeit a summery one) but DH didn't and really suffered! I've got him a fleecy one from Go Outdoors for a couple of quid. Seems to do the trick anyway. I bet the cold blew some cobwebs away, but your walk sounds fantastic! You must have done some good if you were aching! When are you getting out again?

Grin
That is mine....along with a covering of orange peel on top!

However we will soon have 'buns of steel' with all this hiking Blush

I'm willing the blue skies for us all....
Happy walking allSmile

Sir - the annoying thing is I do own a buff but didn't have it with me. It lives in my cycling jacket.
We are spending a few days with the inlaws over Easter and they have offered to have the dc for the day so we can have a day to ourselves. We should be able to manage a longer or at least mire leisurely walk as won't be rushing back to pick dc up from after school club and nursery. On Monday we even walked past an open pub! As we were a bit tight for time.

I'm really envious of those of you getting out for walks while dc are at school. I work almost full time but will be doing 3 days from Easter. Dc2 starts school in September so will have to get out with him.

Swimming can be knackering, or not, depends how far,how fast and what stroke. I only do breast or back never quite mastered front crawl. (Everything I know about swimming was learned from sitting at the poolside watching my kids being taught!) and I only do around 20 lengths. I've been gradually putting weight on since I stopped going in the pre Christmas busy time, and I just haven't got back into the habit.
Lovely day here today!

Beautiful here today. Went to Symonds Yat in Gloucestershire and had a lovely woodland walk, DP reckons about 5 miles. We were walking, dc were on their bikes with our help up hills for both and braking down really steep hills for ds2 who is 3 and can't yet be trusted to brake enough.

Nice day to get out! We had lovely woodland walk in Worcestershire. Book said 2 and three quarter miles but we all felt it was further than that. Kids did great, even my youngest who normally makes a big fuss. Smile
