Flora or Fauna.

Extra points for a photo.

Handicap will apply to those in Forrin. Monthly win will not automatically go to, for example, a Cougar spot. The Cougar will need to be doing something awesome, like fighting a bear or doing sudoku.

Ive just heard my first chattering swallows. I think. By the time I'd stood up, swung round, got blinded by the sun and recovered I couldnt see them, but it was Definately swallow like chattering!

I like the idea of MNHQ judging the spots-I should think they would welcome a break from F4J !!

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 21/03/2012 14:08

Hmm I hit send and now am wondering if it is swifts that chatter

Answers on a postcard Grin

Northey · 21/03/2012 14:53

I am 90% certain that I have just seen my first treecreeper.

iseenodust · 21/03/2012 15:09

Lambs in the field. Facts from the farmer's wife - they are one week old and today is first day out.

iseenodust · 21/03/2012 15:13

Not sure what was stealthy about that!

If you want to see lots of cute fluffy little big-eyed baby seals at about 2 metres distance and not be in trouble for getting that close you need the Lincolnshire coast end of Nov.

FryingNemo · 21/03/2012 17:22

The first painted lady of the year is sunning itself on one of window sills in the last rays of the evening. Sooo beautiful.

I hope the cat does not find it.

ArielNonBio · 21/03/2012 17:26

I feel a namechange coming on. Thanks for the inspiration, TopTrumpers.

A treecreeper, Norf? Where? What time? Was is up a tree? What was it doing? Et cetera.

Seals for me and a kittiwake.

Northey · 21/03/2012 17:38

Mid afternoon. It was in a wooded area along the valley and was sort of hopping up tree trunks. Most interesting. I also saw two cormorants sitting on some dead boughs sticking up out of the water.

ArielNonBio · 21/03/2012 17:50

Were they...... on the Wye?

Northey · 21/03/2012 17:53

They were! And very dark and brooding they looked too. Most incongruous in the blazing sunshine. How was your kittiwake?

ArielNonBio · 21/03/2012 17:53

Oh you know. Flapping and darting along. As they do.

ExitPursuedByABear · 21/03/2012 18:48

Big fat bumble bee and some fabulous birdsong is about the best I can muster today - and my the curlew of course, visible today as it was clear.

Pink Pennines in the setting sun, and some rather lovely flies hovering about the drive in the dying rays of the sun - I drove slowly to avoid damage.

ExitPursuedByABear · 21/03/2012 18:50

Maybe we should all put our location in our hover - that would assist in identifying Spring's march northwards and explain some of what to me are pretty unusual sightings - yes I am looking at you Ariel......

GrimmaTheNome · 21/03/2012 19:15

Will county suffice?

GrimmaTheNome · 21/03/2012 19:18

Anyway, Ariel said 'On the sea. In Cornwall.' so its probably a notable day when she doesn't see a kittiwake.

AWimbaWay · 21/03/2012 19:24

There was a deer stood in the beck at the bottom of our garden this morning, that's only about 6 metres from the house so got a really good look before opening the patio doors and scaring it to death, not literally to death, but it sure did bolt it.

Piffpaffpoff · 21/03/2012 21:11

Today I was virtually deafened by the skylarks on my walk back from school this morning. And then when we got back from nursery this afternoon DD and I watched a kestrel hovering 10ft off the ground, 10m away. And all this on the edge of a housing estate in central Scotland.

ArielNonBio · 21/03/2012 21:26

How do you do a hover?

GrimmaTheNome · 21/03/2012 21:35

Go to MyMumsnet (link at top of page); log in; then I think its registration details, anyhow the same place you'll need to go if you want to namechange, fill in User Status, save.

Northey · 22/03/2012 11:35

I love finches. Goldfinches are my favourites.
