Not tagging anyone. I'm sure you'll all find your way here if you want to join in. 😁

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I wasn’t mad at him for the poo incident as he did try and do the right thing but I was a bit mad about the counter surfing! I told him not to worry though 🤣. He was a bit pale this morning but is currently spinning in circles with his teddy so he seems his normal self and he’s eaten, drunk and walked as normal.

@SpanielsGalore hope the operation goes well tomorrow!

Bupster · 12/02/2026 19:54

I just took Bill for the first after-daycare walk we’ve managed since Christmas, and he caught his second mouse ever! I was thinking oh shit, I’ve got no chance of getting it off him, and he was giving me side-eye like he was afraid I’d take it from him, so I told him what a good boy he was and resigned myself to living on the Common for the rest of our lives as I was damned if he was bringing a dead mouse into the car.

He trotted around with it for about five minutes, then very gently put it back on the ground and watched it burrow back into the grass 😍😭

there are probably proper gundog owners spinning in their wellies but I thought it was so sweet. I did drag him away before he could change his mind and catch it again though.

@SpanielsGalore hope everything goes well!

And thoughts to everyone facing random poo. Apologies, I am also appalling at replying to everyone - I do read it all, honest .

YorkshireFelix · 12/02/2026 20:01

@Idstillratherbepaddleboarding I’d like to think he’s learnt his lesson but I assume not, just like my greedy dog!

@Bupster aww that is actually quite sweet 🐭

SpanielsGalore · 12/02/2026 20:58

@Bupster That's really sweet. 💖 And how a proper gundog should be - gentle mouthed so as not to damage the bird. When K presented me with a live duck, that waddled off uninjured after I had prised it out of her mouth. Unfortunately the rabbits P catches do not fare so well.

We've had a much better day today. Took the cockers to a wood we don't go to very often as you have to pay to park, and they had a lovely time. Ran non-stop, but recalled every time and checked in voluntarily too. And there were no dead birds or fish for them to find. 🎉

There is no Pink Stuff in town, so I have had to order some off Amazon. But I did manage to buy ingredients for Millionaire Shortbread, which I am making now. My kitchen currently smells of shortbread.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 13/02/2026 07:14

@YorkshireFelix he’s a Labrador so I can guarantee he will not have learned his lesson 🤣🙈.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 13/02/2026 07:15

@SpanielsGalore hope the pink stuff works!! Your millionaires shortbread sounds amazing, I haven’t had that in years (and now I want some 🤣).

VanGoSunflowers · 13/02/2026 09:30

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks glad all went well at the vets and I’d be happy to let Satan whip Pablo in to shape ☺️

@YorkshireFelix sorry the walk was difficult! Pablo is like that sometimes too, some days he will walk like an angel and then others he’s a bit too enthusiast. It’s a wonder he hasn’t pulled me over in this mud yet!

@Bupster that is actually adorable! Honestly, if you remember the tale about rat gate (Pablo eating a decomposed rat and the vet visit!) I think if I’d have left him to his own devices he would have dropped it and moved on instead of losing my shit and panicking over it 😂

@SpanielsGalore glad you had a good walk! They make the bad days almost worth it don’t they?! Also love millionaire’s shortbread!

My working memory is so poor, I think that’s why I forget to reply to people. I have lost count of the amount of times it’s been suggested to me to be screened for ADHD. And to be honest, the only reason I haven’t is that I’m almost certain I do and I actually don’t mind it - as stressful as it can be sometimes 😂

YorkshireFelix · 13/02/2026 10:07

@SpanielsGalore hope your journey to the vets wasn’t too stressful and it all goes smoothly today 🤞

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 13/02/2026 12:57

@YorkshireFelix coming in a bit late after your message after mine yesterday, but perhaps a bitch in heat? The only time Twatdog has been a nightmare is around a bitch in heat or, interestingly, Satan whenever she's had her anal glands draining creepy little freak that he is

@VanGoSunflowers Poor Pablo! What has he done to deserve a whipping from Satan?!😂

@Idstillratherbepaddleboarding It's so hard to be mad at them, isn't it? But I am glad he's feeling much better ❤

@Bupster I agree with @SpanielsGalore - that is exactly how a proper gundog should behave (nice and gently). What a good boy Bill is - although that was never in question, was it?

@SpanielsGalore let us know how it goes today (and do send photos of the Millionaires Shortbread).

The rabble and I had a very short walk this morning as I have a bit of a migraine. So I have spent much of the day on the sofa throwing a one woman pity party with Twatdog cuddled up next to me, and the rest of the babies off digging holes in the garden. I say cuddled up next to me, he's currently chinning on my shoulder watching what I type. If I turn my head toward him I can kiss his cheek and every time I do it, his eyes close as though he's really happy.

Silverbirchleaf · 13/02/2026 13:15

@SpanielsGalore

‘…let us know how it goes today (and do send photos of the Millionaires Shortbread).’

Or even better, samples!

SpanielsGalore · 13/02/2026 13:29

Good afternoon everyone. Thank you all for your good wishes for P.
Typically it snowed overnight, so the journey was a little stressful. No skidding, but the light came on to show we lost traction a few times.

The vet thinks P's cruciate ligament has torn or ruptured. She's going to do x-rays and an arthroscopy to check and if it's confirmed, P will have TPLO surgery this afternoon. And she wrote RH in big letters on P's admittance form to ensure they operated on the correct leg. I almost marked it with a big cross before we went. 😂
If she has the surgery, they'll keep her in overnight and I'll collect her tomorrow morning.
I've also opted for full blood tests to be carried out. I don't usually bother, but the vet agreed that it was sensible as P has so much going on with her. And I thought in for a penny, in for £3.6k. 🤷‍♀️
I had to pay half on drop off and the balance on collection. I've stuck it on a credit card. PetPlan are usually very good, so they should have paid me before my bill arrives.

The vet will phone around 3:40pm to let me know how things went, so I will update then. I'll reply to other people's news/updates then too. Sorry. Don't mean to be rude. Just can't concentrate at the moment. The vet was very detailed in her explanations of things that can go wrong during the operation. 😭

@SpanielsGalore will keep my fingers and toes crossed for P and for you❤

YorkshireFelix · 13/02/2026 14:26

@SpanielsGalore oh gosh don’t worry about not replying to anyone else!! It sounds so stressful, I hope you are feeling ok?

Poor P bless her, she’s been through so much. I would have opted for the full blood tests too as it makes sense to do it all as one. It might show up something else which you don’t yet know about.

I am keeping everything crossed for you 🤞

YorkshireFelix · 13/02/2026 14:37

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I hope you’re feeling better soon!! It could well be a bitch in heat but honestly who knows. There’s not actually many dogs around here (we are over run with cats!) but I know the three closest are all male. It could be further away though. He did the same again this morning and it just makes me lose my patience. I walked him again just now on his slip lead and he was fine 🤷🏻‍♀️ probably because he knows he can’t pull me about on it.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 13/02/2026 16:24

@YorkshireFelix Oh bless him! It's a spaniel thing the tugging though, isn't it? Walking to heel isn't necessarily their forte, bless them! At least the slip lead helps. I'm pretty sure if I tried to use a slip lead on Twatdog he'd just strangle himself.

Fingers crossed V reverts to his goodboy ways sooner rather than later...but if he doesn't my door is always open for him😀

I always think whoever can get a spaniel to walk nicely on a lead is an absolute miracle worker!!

The name Satan Jr really suits him 🤔

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 13/02/2026 18:21

@YorkshireFelix surely you don’t think so lowly of poor V to compare him to Satan?!

Attaching a photo as proof of her evilness.

God it's been a long day! The vet didn't phone until 6pm.
The cruciate ligament had ruptured, so P has had TPLO surgery. They have taken a sample of the fluid from the knee and sent it off to test for infection. Bloods were all good. The tendons are inflamed.
She said something about one of P's muscles being a different colour to the rest and no one had seen the like before. But they have done an ultrasound and it looks OK. Not sure what that means.
P is staying in overnight and if all is well, I can collect her at 11a.m. tomorrow.

Thank you everyone for your good wishes for P today. 💐

@VanGoSunflowers My DB was diagnosed with ADHD a couple of years ago. Up until then he could send birthday and Christmas cards and reply to text messages. He now says he can't do those things anymore as he has "a diagnosed mental health issue". I'm not sure why a label makes a difference.

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I hope your migraine has gone now. It's sweet of TD to keep you company though. I love how just being with you makes him happy. 💖

@YorkshireFelix Only one of my 6 spaniels has walked nicely on a lead and that wasn't down to training. My gold boy just never pulled. His black brother always did. If I walked him on a flat collar, he pulled until he was sick. My sprocker was worse and did the scrabbling along the floor pull. P and N are mixed - sometimes they'll walk nicely, but will pull if they get distracted. K is manageable purely because of her size. If she was 18kg, she'd be a fecking nightmare to hang on to. 😂

Photo of Millionaire Shortbread as requested. This is the only piece I have. I gave the rest to DS when I was in Aberdeen this morning. I am regretting it now. 😂

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks she is SOOOOO cute 😭😭😭😭 I love her mullet. What a style icon.

@SpanielsGalore oh god poor P, I bet she’s been in pain with that ☹️ Will she have to be on crate rest then I assume? Hopefully recovery isn’t too rough for you all. Also that shortbread looks banging!

SpanielsGalore · 13/02/2026 18:50

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Satan looks like a little old woman in that photo, bless her. 😂 💖 Id be taking my clippers to her head.

@SpanielsGalore forgot to say I’ve just taken him to the postage locker by Aldi AND into Jollyes to get his food and he’s walked lovely on his slip lead again apart from a few seconds of craziness in the shop. So god knows what’s up with him. I think I’m just going to swap to this lead for all walks now 🤷🏻‍♀️

SpanielsGalore · 13/02/2026 18:54

@YorkshireFelix Oh yes. I forgot that part. I need to dig the cage back out. 6 - 8 weeks of strict rest to start with. No running, jumping, playing. On lead for toilet trips to the garden. Think I might need to drug her. 😳

OP posts:
TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 13/02/2026 18:56

@SpanielsGalore You must have been so worried when the vet was late ringing! But I'm so glad P will be okay ❤Not so good about the rest of it, but at least now she's had some surgery so she should start feeling better? Just seen she'll be on crate rest...will they give you some medication for it? Otherwise the poor girl will go bonkers.

That millionaires shortbread looks amazing! I'm slightly horrified you gave some away though. Why!?

Satan is a v. little old woman. Don't threaten the mullet! The groomer (apparently) works hard on it...although I can't believe any self-respecting groomer would allow her to leave looking like that. Clearly DMum is taking the sheers to her...

@YorkshireFelix don't be fooled by the cute expression, she's the Supreme Leader in this family - putting Kim Jon Un to shame in her ruthless dictator ways since the day she came home.

Bupster · 13/02/2026 19:27

@SpanielsGalore so glad she's through the op! Fingers crossed for all the rest of it (including Petplan).

@VanGoSunflowers and @SpanielsGalore I was diagnosed with ADHD a couple of years ago - I'd just been put on HRT and I could feel my perimenopausal brain fog lifting, and all I could think of was, 'God, I'm annoying' 😄 Diagnosis was great for me because it explained so much of my life and stopped me blaming myself - then I got meds too, which are fab, and I feel like I'm much less likely just to completely cock up my entire job one morning because reasons. But I do sometimes wonder if it would have been a good idea had I been younger. I don't regret it being later in life at all.

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I have no words for Satan's haircut. My gob is smacked. I'm getting mine done for the first time in months next week and I might take that photo in and see what happens 😂

Bill was back on form this morning in case anyone was still thinking he was sweet.
