I'll start for two boys;

Hamish & Bartok (like the composer)

Totally impossible because a) I'm into chic poodles and b) I couldn't ever afford two dogs at once.

Anyone else? What's yours?

Ronnie & Reggie.

I met someone with a Spanial called Jones I thought that was really cool 😎

Ophy83 · 21/08/2025 07:09

I want a basset (preferably a petit basset griffon vendeen) called Madeline.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 21/08/2025 07:15

I've always thought Argos would be a good name for a dog. People would think you have named him after the shop but it is the name of the dog of Odysseus in the Ancient Greek story.

I met an Argos the other day. He was either a Wolfhound or a wolfhound x something and he was HUGE.

ElsaSnow · 21/08/2025 07:20

Met a hound called Watson yesterday thought that was quite cool.
Also know a mini schnauzer called pepper she is a dark grey with lots of flecks of white - suits her!

Currently campaigning for my dad to get a little dog friend and name him Walter – Wally for short.

I picked up and rehomed a gorgeous little blonde stray puppy when I was living in Morocco, and named her Zazu. Always been sad I couldn't keep her myself.

I wanted to call one of mine Misty, but the family said it was a stripper name and vetoed it.

We have Shakespeare theme with our ddogs' names...the next two will be Hamlet and Ophelia.
So I can shout " get there to a nunnery" at the bitch.

But I've always wanted" agent orange" for a golden retriever or maybe red setter.

I used to have a friend who had a lab called baggage ( her father hasn't wanted the dog so the dog was unwanted "baggage")
Years ago we had a Defer...d for dog

I want a scruffy little rescue dog and she'd be called Sloopy

I always said if I had a male cocker I’d name him Jarvis as Jarvis Cocker is my hero. In fact I think Jarvis a cool name for a dog full stop. But I’ve got a female border collie so she’s Maggie.

Conversensational · 21/08/2025 07:41

I really wanted falkor from never ending story but it very much sounds like fuck all when you shout it across a field.

Sherlock also. Because I would not want my dog's bowel habits being referred to in every conversation despite them being a very good detective.

Used to live next door to a bulldog called Nigel which I thought was brilliant. His mum would scold him and you could hear her sigh and say ‘Oh come on Nige, stop humping the doorstop you sex pest’ and it’d properly make me chuckle.

Tina, she will be a standard poodle and due to finally being in the process of buying our own house I am hoping not too far in the distant future Grin

I currently have a Patterdale which prevents me from having any other animals or, indeed, friends. But I would really like another big dog, possibly a setter or retriever called The Dogda.

I want a dog called Allan so I can do a gopher impression.

But ours was from the R litter and had to be called after an actor. So he’s Ralph (Fiennes), a good clear name for recall. He also goes by

Ralphster, Ralphlet, Piglet, R-Alpha dog, C’mere you, Boiiiii, Smelly Dog, Young Man, Pain in the Neck
all with love, obviously.

That made me smile, and I’m now (in my head) saying Alan in that voice.

Our tortoise was called Wilberforce. Vets were very taken with the name.

My first dog was called Pandemonium (Pandy for short).

Arran2024 · 24/08/2025 18:43

I name my dogs after places we have holidayed in and loved (in the UK). My next two will be Hebden and Kipford.

MoonKiss · 24/08/2025 18:47

I met a dog called Ronnie Barker the other week. Tickled me for hours (the name, not the dog)
