I'll start for two boys;

Hamish & Bartok (like the composer)

Totally impossible because a) I'm into chic poodles and b) I couldn't ever afford two dogs at once.

Anyone else? What's yours?

Granville

There’s a woman who walks her Dachshund in the park I run in, and he’s called Luggage, which I think is great. Would absolutely steal that, if I wasn’t just so-so about dogs.

PumpingRSI · 20/08/2025 20:01

Wilberforce, a big name for what will prob for a small silly simpleton dog. Willy for short.

One day I’ll have my spaniel called Winnie or Winston

Nevertrustacop · 20/08/2025 20:27

Our animals are always called by another animal name
Cats called Rats and Bunny
Dog called Kitten
Hamster called Snake

Ylvamoon · 20/08/2025 22:19

Ahh I actually have a name for every breed dog I wish to own but don't and probably never will because DH does not like these breeds

Lena is the gorgeous Saluki girl
Rousseau for a little Papillon
Trudi for the springer Spaniel
Genji is the Belgium Shepherd
Carlos for the Italian Greyhound
Samba for the white standard Poodle
Gonzo would suit the smooth fox Terrier
...
So please feel free to use the above for the corresponding breed dog!

I met a lovely slobbery English bulldog called Winnie today! Not a spaniel but it suited her down to the ground.

CoriolanusSnow · 20/08/2025 22:25

Quiche because it sounds posh and I like saying the word.

I also love Cosmo. Or Luke which is my boy baby name but I don’t have a son so a dog can have it instead.

Clementine, waiting until it’s just myself and my husband and we can then get a Caviler King Charles Spaniel

Cappuccino5 · 20/08/2025 22:28

Pippa! I love it but DDog just didn’t suit it - tried it for a few days but it didn’t feel/sound right for her

@MrsPerfect12 briliant! 🤣🤣🤣

If I had a bichon frise or any other tiny ball of fluff dog, I'd call him Wolfie. DH wants an airedale called Ralph. I'd be happy with that too.

I heard a woman call her dog something like 'Lupi'. I can't work out what language that comes from or what it means but I thought it is maybe Spanish and means something like wolf. Maybe it's like Wolfie but in Spanish or Italian.

I've always thought Argos would be a good name for a dog. People would think you have named him after the shop but it is the name of the dog of Odysseus in the Ancient Greek story.

cannyvalley · 20/08/2025 23:07

I really like dogs with proper people names. Preferably old, traditional names like Arthur, Boris, Florence, Betty etc .

my dog is called Edward.

longtompot · 20/08/2025 23:36

My next dog will be a lemon or orange roan/or and white show cocker spaniel and will be called Rosie

The next one after that will be called Hester after the hare in His Dark Materials and will probably be a chocolate roan show cocker spaniel, or maybe another blue roan

I would love one called Florence, or Flossie for short, but not sure DH would like calling that in the park. Maybe a future cat...

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 21/08/2025 00:08

Someone on social media has already done it. But a Berner, called Bunsen.

Wasitabadger · 21/08/2025 00:25

I have a Labradoodle called Flora. A client thought her name was Florence for some reason which has now become her nickname. For a boy dog I want Octavius (Occy).

If I get another girl I am now thinking Bridget, which is a challenge as I normally name after book characters. The Bridget in this series tried to murder the main character.

Jannergirl · 21/08/2025 00:25

Where did I read or hear on the radio recently about someone calling their dog Askit?
Cue the conversation ‘what’s your dog called?’ - ‘Askit’
Oh the hours of fun…🤣🤣

I also really like the names Bracken & Bramble together!

also Bambi & Sage (but that sounds like a fancy candle company 🤣)

Valentine and Winthorpe. They will be sturdy little Borders.

But it'll never be practical for me to have dogs so they remain fantasy names.

sandgrown · 21/08/2025 06:47

I already have a Gizmo. A friend had a dog called Deefur (dog)
