Not at all relevant to the thread, but it looks like B-Day is here (Pen just waddled past with my favourite blanket clamped securing between her jaws and has taken it off to ‘her area’ and she has been particularly clingy this morning with her own mum)! Wish her luck!

Hope all your pups stay good and don’t get into too much mischief or require anymore vet trips…

Any news on the pups yet?

He is indeed. 💖
How is your car so clean? 😂

Back home again after a week's tick collecting holiday

Left Scotland in pouring rain, 12 degrees and thunder and lightning and arrived home to 25 degrees and sunshine. The girls are going to miss going swimming everyday.

@YorkshireFelix Youngest is a devil for leaping fences and walls, she comes straight back when asked but she doesn't consider fences any sort of barrier to be respected.

My poor pup has been worn out today! Not on purpose, either! He’s been doing so well with not jumping up and I have been keeping a close eye on not letting him get overstimulated or overtired. It’s definitely then when he starts getting destructive.

He’s learned so much in a few days but I’m really keen to make sure he is sleeping enough as well as I know he needs it but other people I know (friends and family) although they mean well, seem to not want to listen to me when I say he needs his sleep and to leave him alone. I may be being a bit sensitive though as I haven’t slept well for a while 😂

CoubousAndTourmalet · 14/06/2025 21:12

Well, if it's any consolation, my girl is overtired too @VanGoSunflowers and so am I! But we had a lovely day with my cousin, and both her daughters are now totally smitten with Brie. She was a good girl, we kept her calm and she didn't make a sound all day.

I hope you and your little chap both sleep well tonight.

Oh yes you said about them coming to visit! I’m so glad it went well and was calm for you all. Hope you all sleep well tonight too!

Mine is currently fast asleep on the sofa using my foot as a pillow 🥰
Good thing was though, once I recognised he was getting worked up I was able to redirect and calm him so I’m really pleased with how he is handling it all.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 14/06/2025 21:25

Honestly @VanGoSunflowers It sounds as if he is doing really well, and it's great that you're already recognising the signs of him being overtired and overstimulated.

Brie is currently doing that lying down running/paddling/swimming thing that they do with their legs. I can see that she's fighting sleep, but hopefully she'll crash out in a while.

YorkshireFelix · 14/06/2025 21:26

Thank you ☺️

Ah bless her, I bet she’ll be having those cute twitches in her sleep tonight while she dreams about it all! Sounds like she did beautifully today 🥰

Thank you! @YorkshireFelix - I think I have picked a good’un. I’ve no idea what I’m doing but he seems to understand what I’m trying to get him to do most of the time 😂

LandSharksAnonymous · 15/06/2025 08:12

@YorkshireFelix V looking handsome and pleased with himself as always!

11 healthy puppies safely delivered. Pen also healthy and happy.

I’m taking twatdog, Clem (Pen’s mum) and Hen out on a walk as they didn’t go out yesterday with DD2 and we’ll get a coffee etc. DMum and DD1 are with Pen and pups. Then it’s back to pup and Pen watch for me!

@tizwozliz Very cute puppy. 💖
I hope you had a good holiday, despite the ticks. You picked the right day to go home. My son is down in Yorkshire at the minute. He messaged to say it was roasting and he was sweating as I was traipsing through the woods, soaked to the skin.

Talking of pups jumping walls ........ I swear she is part cocker crossed with a cat.

Our first Pyrenean, when I was a teen, would jump walls and fences, which comes as a surprise to most people. PMD aren't always the cumbersome beasts that people imagine. We lived in an old Vicarage in a Cumbrian village at the time, and she used to regularly jump the churchyard wall to go and visit our neighbours (not the ones in the churchyard, I hasten to add), or to see the children at the primary school.

I know, irresponsible, but this was the late1970s and the world was a different place.

Bupster · 15/06/2025 11:44

@LandSharksAnonymous that's wonderful news! Can't wait for puppy spam.

Nobhead is doing pretty well overall. I think he's having a testosterone surge, he’s extra keen on the ladies, very playful, struggling with impulse control, barking at random stuff, and very needy. But for the third time I've been able to let his line trail for most of our walk on the Common, and he's been largely engaged, and checking where I am, and he went for another swim, and managed other surprise dogs pretty well. He did manage to hook my left leg out from under me with the long line first thing and I nearly did the splits but you can't have everything, and it's a tribute to the fitness gains I've made by walking 20,000 steps every day with a nobhead that I just got up and carried on.

Weather forecast here is for some very hot days next week. What do you guys do when it's that hot? I can try to get up earlier (I'm awful at this) for the occasional morning walk, but it's tricky as he has two dog enemies that get to our favourite place half an hour before us; I time it super-carefully to try to dodge them. I can get him to the cemetery at lunchtime if he continues to refuse to poo in the garden (we can walk there one street in the shade and there are trees once there) but it doesn't feel like much.

@CoubousAndTourmalet Puppy goes to visit my neighbour. She just strolls into their house and makes herself at home. I have said I need to higher the wall, but they asked me not to as they like having puppy cuddles. She is hoping it will persuade her husband to agree to a dog. Fortunately the wall the other side is higher, so she can't get beyond their garden.

@Bupster Glad you had a good walk, despite the mishap with the long line. When it's hot, I drive to the woods and walk in the shade. Both woods have water sources for cooling off. Or I wait until the evening when t has cooled down. (I am not a morning person.) But fortunately my lot will all poo in the garden.

tizwozliz · 15/06/2025 13:06

I can drive to woods and water in 5 mins which is our go to for hot days, either at lunch or in the evening. I think it was only when we had multiple 30+ days a few years ago that I made a special effort to get out in the morning (as it was still hot at 10pm). Mine cope with the heat fairly well, as long as the ground is not too hot, they're ok with a lead walk around 25 degrees. They'll still be sunbathing in the garden at 28 degrees.
