First walk is about 6 am. We then do a lunch time walk if we are home ( otherwise no walk and he is at doggy day care).

EdithStourton · 23/04/2025 13:23

7-ish. Sometimes a bit later at weekends. When I was going out to work, I'd get up at 6 and take them straight out (dark, rain, gales, made no odds).

They get an afternoon walk at some stage after 3.30 - when I went out to work, I'd come in, get changed and take them out straight away. Now, they start the Jedi kind tricks just after lunch....

WinterNightStars · 23/04/2025 13:36

7.30 during week, anywhere between 8-11am on weekends. Bedtime wee around 11ish. 14 year old will have been out for wee in night as she does every night, 9 year old will go straight through from bedtime wee to morning walk.

LandSharksAnonymous · 23/04/2025 13:37

On office days? 5AM
WFH days. 6AM.
Weekends. 7AM

But they always get three walks a day, rain or shine. Even if the walks are 20 mins each because I’m sick etc - Goldies that aren’t stimulated or exercised are not dogs you want in your home tbh.

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 23/04/2025 13:45

I WFH so first walk is usually around 7am, for 45 minutes or so - I treat it as equivalent of my old commute. Then we walk at my lunchtime, around 1 or 2, maybe 30 mins. Then another short walk after work or play in a nearby field. Weekends we usually do a longer walk around 9am for an hour or two.

faerietales · 23/04/2025 14:43

Our beagle is seven and goes out around 8.30 during the week for an hour - at weekends it can be anytime between 7am and 2pm really, he’s not fussy and will happily sleep the morning away given the chance!

On weekdays he then gets a second walk around lunchtime for about 20 minutes but that’s only a recent addition and he doesn’t need it.

Mindymomo · 23/04/2025 14:47

Our border collie wakes up 5.45am everyday, we let him out, have a cup of tea then DH takes him for his first walk, 40 minutes. Second walk is with DH and I, or DS and I weekends around 11 am for about an hour. Then we do a 30 minute walk late afternoon.

Zippedydodah · 23/04/2025 14:55

ZDog1 gets walked at 7.30 by me but anything up to 10am if DH and again 4pm-ish, has access to the garden all day and dog walker 2x week.
New ZDog2 goes out after ZDog1 if I am walking her, 7-ish if DH is walking ZDog1. Another walk with ZDog1 , DH and I about 4-ish, again she has access to the garden all day.
The morning walk is 50 minutes to 2 hours, same in the afternoon (shorter if had a long morning walk)
It isn’t unusual for us to do a couple of even longer walks at the weekend.
Weather doesn’t stop us unless it’s really hot or very icy, then we adapt as necessary.
ZDog1 is a 4 year old lab sized what-sit, ZDog2 a French bulldog x something, 9 years old but we’re new owners for her.

Gundogday · 23/04/2025 15:00

An hour after he eats (to prevent bloating) so usually 8am onwards. Can be as late as 10am.

Second walk around 4.30ish . Again variable.

labrador.

Bartg · 23/04/2025 15:02

Thank you. At the moment I do a walk for about 50 mins at 9.30. Then another 30 mins at lunchtime. With occasional pop out in to garden with me if I am gardening etc.

I am considering if I took her at 6 am for an hour to allow me to be going back to work. But I never done such an early walk with her . So was interested to hear how others do it.

Our whippet is active but idle. Which means she would go for a walk at any minute of the day, for all of the day, but until it is obvious that a walk is imminent, she will remain in bed. Sometimes she won't surface until 11am.

Gizlotsmum · 23/04/2025 15:29

should probably add dog would happily go for later walk, he tends to head back to bed after his morning wee and poo. So if dh walking him on a weekend it is later, lunch walk he is always ready for. Again only different if really hot, he loves the snow/rain/wind and has only once refused to go out when the rain was horizontal.

Love that description - our beagle is the same Grin

I work shifts so my dogs have a different routine every couple of days. They seem to be fine with it. They always get fed at similar times thanks to my wonderful dog walker. One of them is less impressed by early starts but perks up when she knows she’s going for a walk. I think they adapt well because they’re used to it.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 23/04/2025 22:02

It really depends and isn’t set in stone, if I’m working and dd can’t take him out I’ll walk him before work so 7.30am ish.

Dd works shifts so if she’s not working until the afternoon she’ll take him out around 11am.

If ive got a day off it could be after lunch but will be a long walk then!

He always gets an 8pm walk as well.

tizwozliz · 24/04/2025 05:33

Anywhere between 7am and 1pm, they're very flexible (working labs)

muddyford · 24/04/2025 13:10

6.45 for about twenty minutes then a proper walk later in the morning.

DominoRules · 24/04/2025 13:15

Usually 8.30/9 for a good 1.5 hours then 1.30-2 for about 45 minutes during the week. Weekends a bit later but no more than an hour probably.

However I’m really unwell at the moment and can’t walk him so he’s been going out at 6am with DH for 1/1.5 hours and is completely fine with the change

wendywoopywoo222 · 24/04/2025 13:24

Mine only routinely has one walk a day and it’s usually around 6pm when I’m at work. She has the run of the garden all day.

RoachFish · 24/04/2025 13:55

I live in a flat so don't have a garden to let the dog out in so go out at 6.30am, then midday, then 4pm and last walk around 8pm. A lot of walking but the first and last walk of the day are usually just 20 minutes or so.

FoxRedPuppy · 24/04/2025 14:01

Anywhere between 8 am 9 usually. I occasionally consider getting up earlier to do it, but he’s happy sleeping in. At weekends it’s whatever time I get up as dressed.

LoudPlumDog · 24/04/2025 14:06

I have two large dogs, mostly me in the day so I take them to the river each day for 1.5. - 2 hours for walking, running, swimming, hiking and agility.

Springersrock · 24/04/2025 14:13

I have a springer spaniel and her first walk is around 7 ish during the week. At weekends she’s happy to wait until 9ish

We live right next to the beach so we go down there for half an hour while she blasts about, digs, swims and blows off some steam. She has a longer walk at lunchtime and then another quick walk before bed.

Lovelysummerdays · 24/04/2025 14:16

6:15 for half an hour then cup of tea and get kids up for seven. Happy to wait till 8/9 at the weekend though

magicstar1 · 24/04/2025 14:20

Between 9 and 10 for her first walk. Then we go to the park for 2 or 3 hours in the evening.
