What would your guesses be for the mixed breeds of this dog?

Any dog breed experts or anyone had a mixed breed similar to this one as a puppy? It's a Romanian rescue. Just trying to work out possible future size.

Looks a bit like my dog, who is a cockapoo so medium size

Cockapoodled · 28/12/2024 21:48

Cockapoo I think , looks a lot like mine did as a puppy.

yellowjane · 28/12/2024 22:49

Thank you. I thought cockapoo type too maybe. Also possibly some sort of terrier.

How old is it? Puppy could mean 12 weeks or 9 months?

yellowjane · 28/12/2024 23:14

It's around 6/7 months.

I think I can see a bit of Westie in him.

tabulahrasa · 29/12/2024 01:48

It’s hugely unlikely you’ll be able to guess what breeds are in it tbh, completely different breeds are more common there and most of the dogs that end up here are just complete mixes of loads of breeds - one of my dogs litter mates has had a DNA test, came back with 17 breeds in it 🤣

if that’s how big it is at 6/7 months, it’s not likely to be a big dog.

Inndiaanna · 29/12/2024 02:14

Looks more like a labradoodle than a cockapoo.

stayathomer · 29/12/2024 02:16

Does it not look too small to be eg labradoodle? I thought some westie too! Either way gorgeous and best of luck, looks ready for all the love and hugs

PennyApril54 · 29/12/2024 02:32

Absolutely beautiful and gorgeous. We have a Romanian rescue too. Thanks for rescuing ❤️ hard to say size wise, sometimes you can tell by the paws ie if they are massive then expect a bigger dog . Who knows! but giant love coming your way no matter what.

biscuitsandbooks · 29/12/2024 08:12

If it's a Romanian rescue then probably none of the breeds that have been listed so far!

ruralwanderer · 29/12/2024 08:46

It won't grow into a huge dog but if you're a new dog owner, size will be the least of your worries buying a Romanian rescue. My parents' foreign rescue dog has taken the best part of 4 years to come out of her shell and still has no recall. She's very hard work, scared of vehicles, crowds and loud noises and they've had to change their lifestyle to accommodate her needs whereas their previous dog (bought a a pup) just fitted right in.

Better to try British rescues, particularly ones that have assessed the dogs in foster homes and that can offer assistance, advice and backup with any issues you experience after taking the dog home.

If you're near South Wales I'd recommend Hope Rescue. A friend has had two dogs from there and been delighted with the dogs and the support she was offered.

yellowjane · 29/12/2024 09:46

We aren't new dog owners, we've always had a dog and currently have a three year old English Springer Spaniel. We've never had a rescue dog before though so it's a new experience. We really wanted some company for our dog as she's very sociable and loving with other dogs but we didn't want to buy a puppy from a breeder. I've always wanted to rescue a dog (not fussed about it being a puppy but having children under 10 the rescue won't re home any older dogs with us, understandably).

It is coming through a British rescue centre, it is spending time with them there and being assessed etc. We will then have a meeting with it with our children and our dog to see how they all get on.

I'm not expecting an easy ride and we are prepared to put in time for training and settling. I like to think that our dog will act as a good role model for the younger dog as she's truly wonderful so won't be showing off/encouraging any bad habits. Grin But obviously I have no idea how this little one is going to be. I'm also not sure with it being an older puppy how much different that will be as opposed to a very young puppy. I guess no one can really answer that question as all dogs are so different. But we welcome any advice on taking on a rescue pup. Thanks. 🐶

You can get small labradoodles. There’s a small one that goes to our local park and it’s crossed with a miniature poodle.

tabulahrasa · 29/12/2024 10:34

There’s a group on Facebook called - Meesh Masters Romanian rescue dogs community & research units

It has guides on settling in and common behavioural issues

Face shape looks a tiny bit beddlington terrier but defo looks cocapoo

helpmyback · 29/12/2024 10:41

Shaggy dog x adorable

He's so cute

Not helpful sorry

FloofyPaws · 29/12/2024 10:41

Do a DNA test, those are so funny when you get the results back. I love doing that on rescues. I had one who was Chihuahua, Pug, Dachshund, Poodle, and ‘misc’ 🤭 Another who was Jack Russell, Pekingese, and Pyrenean Mountain Dog 🤣 The latter was a Romanian rescue and absolutely nuts, she was hard work but so hilarious and we loved her.

Carouselfish · 29/12/2024 10:46

Looks like my fully grown cockerpoo who got more cocker than poo and is consequently not curly but sort of greasy fluff and allergic to everything and dp is allergic to her! So perhaps a larger cockerpoo? Size of paw should give good indication of growing to.

Agreed. If a street dog, it will probably be a mix of many breeds and none.

We had a former street puppy when I was kid. God knows what was in him (village dog, possibly some retriever) but he was an epic dog.

Lurkingandlearning · 29/12/2024 11:59

A lurcher. They are “rounder” when puppies and grow into their angular rangey shape

Trying to figure out how something could possibly be JR, Peke and PMD when that would seem to be physically impossible... for reasons which we probably shouldn't go into 😂,though it can be assumed that mummy wasn't the little one I guess....😳
Hard work and hilarious is PMD to a tee though❤I bet she was gorgeous.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 29/12/2024 13:20

Would have said part Mioritic - a lot of the Romanian dogs are, but if the age is accurate it's way too small....

Lurcher could be a good call @Lurkingandlearning

KeenOtter · 29/12/2024 13:52

There is a really good reason that UK rescues do not rehome to houses with young children.

Foreign rescues even if they are British based do not have qualified staff able to assess the rescues and happily them over to nearly anyone that will have them. The rescue Lily is at did not have an staff with an animal behaviour qualification but that may have changed - worth asking who is assessing the dog.

In my line of work I see daily the heartbreak and emotional trauma and expense that the new owners have from rehoming foreign rescues.

Do go very carefully OP.

The rescue that has Lily has closed and had some accounting issues so be careful with parting with any money. Although this may all have been corrected now but not according to company house

ACynicalDad · 29/12/2024 15:00

If that's 6 months I'd guess it will finish at about 10kg.
