New thread to get us through the festive season! Angelic and naughty teenage pups all welcome Halo

The absolute state of these two. They couldn't have got themselves soggier if they'd been made entirely of pond water. Bill does seem to be miraculously self-cleaning, though I suppose that's not surprising when you're that well-dunked.

Do most of us drive on here?
I reckon we should all meet up with our pups and have a right good fun run with them 😵‍💫👍
Most of us live up north but to include us all I'm sure we could meet in the middle 🤣

Bupster · 08/12/2024 14:04

I think @brushingboots reckoned Clumber Park might be doable for a few of us. We're both in Lincs and I think there's a few in S Yorkshire/Notts sort of way? Everywhere's at least an hour from where I live 😄

brushingboots · 08/12/2024 14:05

Pupsy had her fleece put on to go home and it worked like magic – having legitimately been swimming with Bill I was amazed to find her 90pc dry when we got back!

@CaptainBeanThief I do and can bring @Bupster and Bill! I reckon Sheffield/Rotherham ish is probably roughly the central point for most of us?

And yes to Clumber! There are some excellent woodland walks there that you don’t have to be a NT member to do too – plus free parking.

CaptainBeanThief · 08/12/2024 15:17

We have just been to the woods. Milo was in his element. Obviously being a spaniel he had to find the most mud possible
Here is the suspect looking worse for wear pre shower 😵‍💫

Love his car seat! I hope it contained the mud for you 😂

OP posts:
CaptainBeanThief · 08/12/2024 18:07

Did it heck 😄
We need a new car seat cover, with all the mud this dog collects I need a stockpile of them.
Actually I need an old banger that he can ruin rather than a 73 plate car
Maybe a land rover defender then I can be a proper spaniel owner 🙃

brushingboots · 08/12/2024 18:24

If it helps, @CaptainBeanThief, of our two trucks, I'd actually say the Defender is the less good of the two for dogs! (I write pulling a pained face, hoping you will hear my lighthearted tone.) Milo looks very enriched and fulfilled by his mud!

We are just off out with pupsy on foot which I am extremely unexcited by as it is absolutely pouring with rain.

I hope you will all meet up, that would be amazing, but sorry, me & Brie wouldn't be able to come because of my anxiety.
Hope you will share photos though, would love to see all pups together ❤

brushingboots · 08/12/2024 20:46

@CaptainBeanThief Snap!

Good god, day 3 of arsehole-ness and I'm ready to set him free to live out the rest of his life in the wild. How on earth have you all done this for months on end?!

He's been spending the majority of the weekend and this morning running at me full pelt and snapping at my arms and legs, or chewing everything in sight. He's chewed a massive hole in my favourite cushion this morning too 😡

Welcome to adolescence @YorkshireFelix !!! Is he still being sick? Just crazy behaviour can sometimes be a sign of feeling ill too. Sounds like it is mostly likely just his age, but thought I'd mention it.

It has been a wild weekend down here. Bear has only been out on a lead apart from a quick charge about on the beach with my teenage son. (The only time I have lost a dog was in a gale; she was not the sort to run off at all and I think just got disoriented, but it was an awful couple of hours until she turned up at a friend's house - I am very defensive in strong winds now.) Just about to take her out with a dogwalker friend for a big let-off-of-steam.

I have been around lots of different dogs - my parents fostered dogs when I was a teenager - and I agree that it is a mix of breed/training/personality. I have known people get wholly unsuitable dogs for their lifestyles and people who have made improbable-sounding combinations work. Bear (cockapoo) is at the top end of energy/intelligence levels that would work for our family - we love a long walk, but we're a busy household and, apart from the son mentioned above, the rest of the family generally more interested in the snuggling-on-the-sofa bit of dog owning then the walking/entertaining/training bits.

thewalrus · 09/12/2024 10:19

Also - I love the idea of the meet-up. We are at the bottom of Cornwall, so not realistic for us, but like @PyreneanAubrie, I would get great pleasure out of hearing about it and seeing the pictures!

YorkshireFelix · 09/12/2024 10:27

No more sick at all, so not sure what that was all about! I just said to DH that if it is adolescence kicking in, it's quite funny that his body decided 'RIGHT I am 6 months old to the day, so now I am a teenager' 😂 If I don't laugh I will probably cry!!

A run on the beach sounds lovely. Are you really close by to the beach or do you have to travel a bit to reach the coast? We are up at my in-laws for Christmas and they live near the coast in the North East and I'm so excited to take V for the first time!! I think he will love it.

My dd is also interested in the snuggling on the sofa bit. Thankfully V is very much a typical spaniel Velcro dog so loves nothing more than a big cuddle in the evening.

thewalrus · 09/12/2024 12:31

We're a ten minute walk from the nearest beach so it's on our 'default' walk. Really lucky. The dogs all do different things on the beach (my last one was all about digging; this one is mostly a wave-jumper), but they do all seem to love it. I bet Vinny will too!

Evening dog cuddles are the very best thing!

brushingboots · 09/12/2024 13:17

So, er, this morning’s find… (find, definitely not dispatch, it was very much already dead)

Clever girl! I am glad there doesn't seem to be much dead stuff around where we walk 😅

He was good as gold on his walk thank god. Had to hose him down in the yard when we got back as it was so muddy, but he deserves it for being a pain in the arse this morning!

Me: Milo! It's time for wee wees

Milo: YOU WHAT? YOU CAN GO FUCK YOURSELF.

Milo gave me a really really bad scare today. He dive bombed off the sofa - then all off a sudden he couldn't get up and his hind leg was lame I was panicking like fuck - but he started prancing about like his usual self albeit limping - he's back to his normal self now, no limping - I was ready to bundle him in the car though to the emergency vets.

And now he's decided he's going to "sleep" whilst laughing at me because he's "sleeping" 🫢🤣
Seriously - today has shown me - how much I fucking love this dog 🙃❤️

@CaptainBeanThief
Why does Milo sometimes look like a person in a dog suit?
Of course you bloody love him - how could you not love that "sleeping" face ❤

CaptainBeanThief · 09/12/2024 22:38

@PyreneanAubrie
Me or either my husband will go to put one of his harnesses on or he's just come in when I've taken a picture and that's when he usually plays dead and goes into the I'm incapacitated pose and I'm too tired to even think about going for a shit on a patch of grass mum 🤣🤣
Hed love to leave a pile of shit for me to stand in when I wake up for a piss at 4am I'm the morning 🫢
He's been having plenty of kisses and cuddles today tho.
How is brie and of course, yourself?
