I thought I might as well be the one to start the new thread! Nothing to report but a sleepy puppy over here.

He's sooooooo cute. I love a hairy dachshund!

I'm another fan of Bill's @Bupster. He's gorgeous. I've only met one Cocker Spaniel X Labrador IRL, a gorgeous little girl pup named Orla at puppy classes. I hadn't even realised that that this particular cross existed until then.

locketrocket · 15/10/2024 00:13

Well, we are now dog owners 😍

Sick on the way home. Quiet for the first hour, so we were led by him. Then boom, personality showed up (coincided when he met DS2, funny that 😂🥰)

Brodie 😍

I had never heard of that mix either but it seems a good one.

I’m Lab biased anyway but Bill seems like a perfect mix.

He didn’t take long to come out of his shell.

Roman was quiet for a couple of weeks after we got him (to be fair he was poorly at first so not a good start). We thought that was his personality but no… he’s mental now.

Bupster · 15/10/2024 08:59

@Twiglets1 @LemonPalmz i think luck has a lot to do with how they turn out! Bill is very Labrador but every now and then you can almost hear his spaniel brain kick in - he’s barky, disappears after a scent, bounces about four foot in the air, runs twice as fast as normal - all absolutely fine except he’s twice the weight of a spaniel puppy 😬😄

@locketrocket your Brodie is gorgeous x

Awww, he's going to be a real cutie @locketrocket
I hope you'll stick around and share more pics as he grows...😃

YorkshireFelix · 15/10/2024 09:03

@locketrocket ahhh he has a lovely coat! Gorgeous 😍

locketrocket · 15/10/2024 09:24

Thank you all ☺️

Will definitely share more pics.

Sorry - thought I had commented last night. @JohnNutLips Clearly I was away with the fairies 🙄

Your pup is adorable! I do love the whiskery faces of wire-haired dachshunds; they have so much character. I bet he's going to be a little scamp 😘

JohnNutLips · 15/10/2024 11:25

Thank you @PyreneanAubrie we have had a much better morning - calm, ate all his breakfast, all business outside and just been for a short walk. Met 2 other dogs and he was good. Lead walking making progress. He doesn’t like anyone walking in front of us and pulls much more even if people are in the distance.

Sounds like excellent progress already so I'm thinking maybe you're an old hand at this puppy lark....?

Not at all! First dog at nearly 40 years old!
Not counting childhood dogs and dogs of partners - where I’ve had no input to training whatsoever 😂

PyreneanAubrie · 15/10/2024 13:03

@JohnNutLips First dog?! Wow! You've clearly chosen a pup that you're very compatible with.

YorkshireFelix · 15/10/2024 15:19

Something to add to the list of mad stuff I do now I have a puppy - I keep pretending to eat his wood chew to distract him from chewing the furniture, so he wants to chew it instead 😂 Complete with crunching sound effects and over the top 'YUM!' noises...

😂 you’ve lost the plot but no more than me when I growled at the puppy last week

Twiglets1 · 15/10/2024 15:58

He put his head on the side and looked at me so quizzically like “strange behaviour from my human”

brushingboots · 15/10/2024 16:06

Haha, I love this. Sometimes when pupsy starts 'singing' (read: whining or even that howly-barky-whiny noise they make) to me because she wants something – usually me to get off the sofa and go for a walk – I 'sing' back at her, totally tunelessly, and she looks quite dumbstruck.

PyreneanAubrie · 15/10/2024 17:19

I totally get this @YorkshireFelix I do the chomping/tasting noises for Brie's "yummy dinner" sometimes.

I also do a lot of silly voices, always done that for the dogs and I honestly have no idea why but it makes them go giddy with delight when I do a "squeaky scouse" voice 😆

Bupster · 15/10/2024 18:27

When Bill starts grumbling at me I grumble back at him. I think he thinks it's normal at this stage. Poor dog

Had a VERY muddy walk in the woods today. Probably the worst one yet. Vinny loved it obviously until I had to chuck him in the bath afterwards. Our shower has been out of action as it needs an obsolete part to fix it, but it would be 10x easier if I didn't have to use the bath and a jug!

Did someone here get an outside shower hose hooked up to the warm tap installed or did I imagine it? I would love one but I live in a grade 2 listed house in a world heritage site so don't think I'd be allowed Sad

Lead walking seems to be improving day by day which I'm pleased about!

brushingboots · 16/10/2024 15:43

@YorkshireFelix My parents have a Belfast sink outside at dog level with a hot and cold tap and shower head and it's amazing for their dogs who need daily post-walk baths in the winter. Their house is listed, and we plan to do the same too when I find a suitable sink on Facebook Marketplace – and our house is also listed! I don't anticipate any trouble as the bath would be well out of public view and I can't see it's any different to installing a regular outdoor tap, which we did when we moved in. So it can be done! And it really is great.

Glad you are having lead walking success! And by the sounds of it plenty of offlead success too if he's enjoying the woods.

Have a look at mud daddy or hippo showers, but also any camping shower would probably work!

Our little puppy has had an excellent day. She had her first trip into a shop (go outdoors) and picked a few items for when we take her in the campervan in half term.
She also has had no accidents in the house for the last three days! More good timing on our part than anything else but she did sit and cry at the door once today to ask to go out!!
So proud of her! Love her so much!!
