Does an indestructible dog toy/ball exist?

GinForBreakfast · 18/07/2024 09:55

DDog loves toys and balls but has severely restricted access because he just destroys them. Photo evidence of the latest ball that promised to be indestructible (it lasted 2 days).

Any recommendations? He has a Kong that has survived, do their other products also last?

We have chuck it balls (the size up from tennis balls) that have lasted really well. Although they don't generally have unrestricted access to them in the house.

I was just going to say that the Kong was the only toy that ever survived my dog, who really enjoyed working on toys to find a weakness that could be exploited.
I wonder how long the Kong biscuit ball would survive, it looks like there might be more nibbly bits that a determined dog could gnaw away at. https://www.kongcompany.com/catalogue/BB1/

Chuckit ultra balls

Procrastinates · 18/07/2024 10:56

Kong toys are literally the only thing DDog doesn't immediately destroy. They can be expensive but in the long run they are the only ones in my experience actually worth the initial outlay.

OhLookAnotherDay · 18/07/2024 10:57

Knotted rope toys have lasted the best for us. The proper rope kind, not the stretchy fabric kind.

Levo · 18/07/2024 12:05

I recently got an animal/rope toy from Dogs Trust and it's tough as nails, worth giving it a try.

Kong has so far lasted quite well against our German Shepherd- we buy the black ones for 'advanced chewers'. She has managed to chew a hole in one, but this was after about a year.

We found that having a chew on a bone a couple of times a week seemed to reduce the effort spent chewing toys, as well as a weekly buffalo ear or something similar in place of a meal.

NormalAuntFanny · 18/07/2024 12:22

I'd say not, used to get our dog 'indestructable' bones but find he'd destruct them pretty quickly, hard balls the same, if given nothing to chew he'd eat coal from the shed, always had fine white teeth though!

MerlinsButler · 18/07/2024 12:24

So far with our Staffie the toys that have lasted are a couple of the B&M Tuff range (Black and Red) and these from Amazon

Kong tend to be good but ours is an aggressive chewer and very patient so anything soft / cuddly stands no chance

Following with interest. My poor doggie gets no toys because she just destroys them in minutes so all she gets now is old clothes tied into knots with biscuits hidden in them that she can destroy and then get thrown away

unsync · 18/07/2024 13:21

Kongs were the only thing that coped with my dog. The black one survived best. He was very strong and also snapped bungee leads. He was a Staffie, so strong jaws.

BigBundleOfFluff · 18/07/2024 13:51

My champion chomper has destroyed most of the items on this list. She's a disemboweller. Fluff and Tuff range is more expensive but the giraffe has survived despite the ears being chewed off for a few months so far!

Boomer balls are amazing. We've had one for 4 years and it's withstood 2 Rottweilers. They're the same brand that they use for big cats in zoos 😂

HurdyGurdy19 · 18/07/2024 14:18

We bought a ball called Indestructiball, on Ebay, must be at least 10 years ago. I think it was made from old tyres? Not pretty to look at, at just a flat black very hard surface, but lived up to its name, as it survived two of our own dogs, a visiting German Shepherd, and a visiting Staffie, with no damage other than teeth scratch marks.

I don't know if they're still available, but it was/is brilliant (we've kept it even after losing our nutcase collie about 8 years ago, just in case we ever get another dog).

Giggorata · 18/07/2024 14:26

Never found one, not even a Kong. (Aggressive chewer, large Shepherd, land shark type 🙄)

…although now I'm going to be looking for Boomer and Indestructaball, thank you

feelingalittlehorse · 18/07/2024 14:35

sigh according to my labradors…. No 😂😂😂

ChangeEmailAddress · 18/07/2024 17:10

Classic Kong shaped like a poop.

Rosewood rubber dog toy - look on amazon - but only the 'bone' and 'dumbell' - the ring and jack last quite well, but the rest can be shredded.

Another vote for boomer balls.

Ah thank you everyone, some really good ideas here.

I would love to give him more bones but he's got quite a sensitive system so the aftermath is not pleasant!

He loves toys, absolutely loves them. His little face lights up when he gets to play with one but then he can't help ripping them apart.

I don't suppose he'll grow out of it?

We moved our dogs onto the xl antlers at they destroyed everything. they love the antlers, they take ages to wear down, are great for teeth and you can throw them like a stick . Expensive but worth every penny

Saintmariesleuth · 18/07/2024 21:49

Have you tried stuffing a Kong and then freezing it for a couple of hours? This used to keep our dog occupied for a good while.

He may get better, but our dog is ?5 years old now and still loves a good chew.

Soubriquet · 18/07/2024 21:50

No. If a dog is that determined, nothing is indescrubtable Even if advertised as such

ChangeEmailAddress · 18/07/2024 22:10

Ours is 13 and still wrecks everything - we sometimes buy him a pound shop toy that he rips the squeak out of within the first minute and then shreds it in the next 5 - but he really enjoys it!
