I have a 7 yo GSD who can sleep in until 12pm. Rarely do but was very grateful for this when I had Covid last month.

DW he got rewarded for his easy going- ness with 15 mins walk x2 I wasn’t certain I would survive.

7am. That is breakfast time.

Obviously he's a Labrador 😃

idontlikealdi · 08/02/2024 14:18

Mine starts pattering around at his breakfast time (it's rigid 7.30 am due to medication), eats, might go out for a wee, might not, and goes back to sleep. He has a cast iron bladder, It can be midday before i can force him out to go for a wee. He's 14.

6am is a lie in here....😭. Very anxious rescue dog who is awake before dawn and gets quite distressed if I don't get up with her (annoyingly she will happily get up with me and leave DH asleep, but if he tries to take her downstairs without waking me she will pace and whine and refuse to eat until I'm up). We have tried everything under the sun to get her to sleep in, but nope. I just try to frame it that it's nice she loves me so much.....

Devilshands · 08/02/2024 14:32

I have three. Usually in bed by 20:00 (although not asleep for a while) as I am up at 05:00 every day...

Cocker Spaniel (10) - She can happily stay in bed until gone 10:00 the next day (14 hours). She'll just stay on my bed and get up when she wants and waddle downstairs - literally wiping sleepy sand from her eyes. But usually she gets up when I do

Dalmation (6) - She'll get up about 08:00 (12 hours) if I stay in bed. But she'll usually get up when I do.

Golden Retriever (14 months) - He always gets up when I do (9 hours). Mostly because he's clingy. If I stay in bed until 08:00, he'll stay.

Mine all sleep in my room though, so there's no separation anxiety/loneliness issues.

Whattobakeiwonder · 08/02/2024 14:34

Mine sleeps until someone opens the fridge door, then he shoots down the stairs like a rocket so he doesn't miss the Fridge Tax. Obviously he's half Labrador 😂

Yes my boy sleeps with me (well he moves all around upstairs at night - we have a baby gate). I’m sure 12pm would not be possible if he was separate to us.

Usually around 6am to jump on our bed and then snooze until 7.30am but for a bit after the clocks changed it was around 5am! Recently she hurt her shoulder or leg and was sleeping until 7am to jump on our bed and then until almost 10am! Unheard of as she is a spaniel, but I think the sleep helped as her sore shoulder only lasted a few days.

EdithStourton · 08/02/2024 15:10

About 7. Even when the mornings are pitch dark.

MonsteraMama · 08/02/2024 15:13

Probably forever. I have three sighthounds and they are surgically attached to their beds or sofas, they only move when I come and tell them to move. They do have 24h access to the garden to do their business though, they'd probably start pestering to go out about 10am if they didn't. Can highly recommend sighthounds to those who like a lie in 😂

QOD · 08/02/2024 15:14

umm well this is embarassing.

1.30pm ... she's a 6 yr old chihuahua and I wfh and start early thurs n fri and finish at 1.30. WHich is when she gets up

WarningOfGails · 08/02/2024 15:15

I have a Labrador/pointer. Tbh I have no idea! We let him out for a last wee around 9-10pm. Then he will happily still be asleep at 10am if we have a lie in. Never been woken by him in the mornings since the puppy stage.

IggOrEgg · 08/02/2024 15:15

I’ve two poodle crosses. One sleeps on our bed and would stay put until we get up, whether that’s 5am or 11am. One sleeps downstairs in a crate, she’ll do til 8ish before getting whingey, or until she hears us moving around upstairs. Can’t blame her, guess she feels left out!

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 08/02/2024 15:17

I have a dachshund and if I stayed in bed all day then she'd stay in bed all day.

Unmute · 08/02/2024 15:18

My 7yo (approximately - rescue with unknown birthdate) staffie will happily sleep for 12 hours. So if I take her out at 10pm, she'll start complaining at 10am. UNLESS she hears me make any noise that suggests I might be awake. It's usually my bladder that wakes us up, rather than hers.

mitogoshi · 08/02/2024 15:20

Midday, lazy old collie

HappiestSleeping · 08/02/2024 15:23

3 year old Lab rescue - will sleep until 7am give or take at which point he starts hassling to have breakfast / walk / play unless I let him under the duvet. If I do, I have yet to find out how long he would stay there as he has outlasted me every time so far.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 08/02/2024 15:26

My GSP will sleep til 7.30 if my DH is away, otherwise it's more like 6.30 as she knows he'll crack and get up with her. My Belgian shepherd would pretty much not wake up until I did - I think we slept in til 11.30 a.m. a couple of times and then it was me that woke him up.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 08/02/2024 15:26

The Patterdale will potter quietly around the house all night. She only really sleeps properly when I let her in with me (although sometimes I hear her dreaming on her bed outside my door). She has been known to stay there until 2pm if I'm working, but usually gets twitchy around 11 (I work from my bed on the laptop, so no urgent need to get up and out). Lots of head nudges and paw-on-shoulder, but she can be persuaded to keep quiet for a bit longer sometimes. (She goes out in the garden for a wee when I make my morning cuppa and then back to bed).

alloalloallo · 08/02/2024 15:29

I’ve got a springer and about 7:30am is about the latest.

She is pretty used to being up and about early though, I have a horse so am out for about 7am most mornings and she comes with me but even if I don’t have to get up early, she’s up and at it from about 6 but I can usually ignore it until around 7/7:30

Veggie1961 · 08/02/2024 15:33

Both my JRT got up about 10am …even later if it’s pissing down !
Only one with us now 😢and she has quite indignant look about her if I get her up too early .

Allmyfavouritepeople · 08/02/2024 15:34

My dog has a bladder of steel. Goes out about 11pm and then can wait until 1.30pm (although we usually go walking mid morning) He'll sleep in with me for as long as im sleeping which can be 10am +
He's a bichon X

MamPadi · 08/02/2024 15:58

Mine will do about 8am at the weekend but being a border collie he seems to know when it's 7.30am and sometimes starts barking to "helpfully" wake us up if we're not downstairs by then

UsualChaos · 08/02/2024 16:08

My dog slept until 3pm today. Seriously. She is usually pretty lazy but this is extreme even for her! She seems to sleep more when it's cold. She's 6, so not particularly old.

lifeispainauchocolat · 08/02/2024 17:25

Around 10am - but that's only because he needs a wee. He'll happily go back to bed after that and sleep another few hours. He's six.
