thank you so much this is really reassuring - and @BirthdayRainbow i will definitely try not to overthink. Only had terriers in the past who were a nightmare to train so I am hoping a golden will be much easier!!!
@Babypuppyshark i have taken note of approach number 2!!! I am going to keep an open mind vis a vis different methods as you suggest
@Devilshands ive looked up McCann and they have lots of useful videos, thanks!

There was a wonderful book I had when we had our Goldie puppy. It was 'How to Have the Perfect Puppy'.

ilovesushi · 11/03/2024 19:26

@Countrymumsy I used some free Blue Cross training videos when training our puppy. I also really enjoyed watching Stonnie Dennis wandering about the beautiful Kentucky countryside with his dogs and his black lab No Name. There is something incredibly relaxing about his voice and I thought he talked a lot of sense.

OMG GRs and the car. I'm not sure if I have said this, but ours loved the car. TO the point that she would sit in the car when my mum was washing her.

Babypuppyshark · 12/03/2024 08:20

You’re lucky @Tilllly, ours gets really sick and anxious every time he is in the car. Vet says they grow out of it by 10-12 months.

We have to take two large towels to put over his boot bolster bed because he throws up within 5 mins every single time. So we have one towel for each leg of the journey 🤦‍♀️

Daisy has made a payment 😌

I can't pretend to be a financial expert, but I thought it was best practice not to let your golden retriever have control of the family finances while they are still puppies.

Golden retriever pups have many developmental stages to pass through before they can fully understand how best to invest your capital, the preferred method of debt repayment or even the ins and outs of mortgages.

This advice really pertains to all breeds. Border collies are adept and savvy but occasionally tend to make rash investment choices. Labradors on the other hand are unlikely to move you out of your comfort zone but some find their approach a little boring.

In any case, wait till your dog grows up before entrusting them with any monetary dealings and you just might be rewarded by getting a sound financial advisor as well as a family companion!

Daisy is now bigger than the toy! Has she started this biting stage, the one that everyone mentions?

Tilllly · 22/03/2024 07:48

Has she ever @TT82!

All I say all day is "Ow, Daisy NO"

I knew the field would be a little bit muddy, I didn't reckon on Daisy, finding a little friend to play with....

They will eat all your shoes. And furniture if left alone. And are like baby sharks gnawing on people and anything when puppies. But it all passes and then they are amazing

stepintochristmas1 · 28/03/2024 16:53

Ahh Tillly they like the mud ! 😂😂. And friends to play with .

BirthdayRainbow · 28/03/2024 17:01

If you've not bathed her yet, start. We didn't when mine was young and she is not a fan. We have a power shower which she doesn't love, so I bought her a coat to keep her clean, which she doesn't like; so I bought her a dressing gown to wear after being washed to dry her quicker and she isn't a fan of that either..

Identifying as part black lab?

@BirthdayRainbow gives good advice regarding bathing. One of the best tips we were given is to stroke every part of their body - their legs, ears, tail, belly etc so if they need to go the get, it’ll all be familiar.

LuciaPillson · 28/03/2024 21:33

Oh noooo Daisy.....
