I'll try...
am in hosp and signal is awful

Hope it’s nothing too serious!!

And, of course, goes without saying she’s still beautiful!

ilovesushi · 06/03/2024 07:57

Hope you are okay. Hope doggo is aiding your recovery! x

Tilllly · 07/03/2024 04:39

I'm home after 4 days
Still in pain but new meds definitely seem to be helping

I was worried she'd not remember me after so long but she did! She wagged her tail so hard, her little bum was wiggling
And it might be coincidence, but she was snuggling up and fussing me, but not bouncing on me or dive bombing- she was being gentle with me, as if she knew not to hurt me

It's no coincidence. They know how mummy is feeling. Always.

Mine looks at me sometimes and I think you know I'm sad don't you, sometimes it's before I really know.

I did wonder but thought I was making too much of it

Get well soon . I’m glad nurse Daisy is helping.

LuciaPillson · 07/03/2024 09:03

Aw that is lovely @Tilllly. Daisy is tuned in to how you feel, she has magical dog intuitions✵ and is a Good Girl. Give her a little nuzzle from me. xox

✵I wonder sometimes if there are special smells for emotions in dog world as they have such an insanely developed sense of smell and their brains must be wired up to receiving so much information from that. Oh I just googled the emotions/smell thing and yes Science thinks it's a real thing, Thank goodness for Science lol

Tilllly · 07/03/2024 09:08

That's interesting, do you have a link? @LuciaPillson

OP posts:
LuciaPillson · 07/03/2024 09:58

Yeah there's just been a new study apparently, hang on

LuciaPillson · 07/03/2024 10:01

Here's the study, unreadable by normal humans but last two paragraphs interesting, they are suggesting service dogs could be trained with their humans' stress odours not just with visual cues. I'll look up a user friendly summary as well

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9518869/

Tilllly · 07/03/2024 10:14

So basically they can smell it on you? That's amazing

FlappyFish · 07/03/2024 10:23

I started reading the thread and then just condensed to your posts @Tilllly for the beautiful Daisy photos. She’s adorable.

LuciaPillson · 07/03/2024 10:34

Yeah! I once read about a guy with neuro issues whose sense of smell became weirdly enhanced, wish I could remember where I read it, years ago, maybe pre-internet even so could have been in a book. He was like a dog basically, can't remember if it wore off. Was fascinating. Must try to find it but I think googling 'man smelled like a dog' is unlikely to be productive.

Walking home from the hospital yesterday as I wasn't going to feel any crapper in the 'fresh air' (exhaust fumes mainly) and exercise is good for me, I was watching a woman walking a dog and the difference in the way the woman wanted to walk and the way the dog wanted to walk struck me, though it's obviously something you see every day but somehow I was noticing and thinking about it.

The woman was all 'we walk in a straight line because geometry is important and there are other people on the pavement' and the dog was leading with its nose and would suddenly swerve to investigate what SaveaFox calls 'peemail' on posts, bushes etc. So its preferred method of progress would look like a very wiggly line like a heart monitor on a map (not a healthy heart mind)

This isn't AIBU but I think the human and the dog each thought the other was being very very unreasonable! Actually would be interesting to read AIBUs written by dogs, but dogs aren't really set up for typing. It's the paws.

But sometimes the smell thing isn't helpful, a friend of mine had a cat that avoided her after chemo as it didn't like the chemical smell, though at other times a cuddly and supportive cat.

Riverlee · 07/03/2024 11:00

There’s a charity be asked in Kent called Hypo Hounds that train dogs to detect blood sugar drops in children, and then to alert the child or parent. They can detect the change often before the child has visable symptoms.

BigBundleOfFluff · 07/03/2024 15:36

When I was recovering from a recent operation my goldie went into "full protection mode" and instead of prancing around on a walk, stuck close by me and growled at anything she thought was a threat - wheelie bins in particular. She's soon stopped the growling but she still walks to heel all the time now.

I think they do know when something is up and do care.

They are the very Best dogs.

BirthdayRainbow · 07/03/2024 19:29

I've read of at least one dog that smelt his owners illness. They really are the most incredible beings. Knickers to the woman on the radio who said they were as clever as the average two year old.

BirthdayRainbow · 07/03/2024 19:32

@LuciaPillson I notice dog walkers who are, we need to get to wherever and get this walk done. I'm very much that this is her walk more than mine and every sniff is brain exercise.

Crazy Daisy! Clearly the white fabric must be subdued. She's on it and wants to know why you are not more grateful.

I now think she might be a baby luck dragon? Always wanted one.

Or possibly part-sheep or part-bear?

Tilllly · 08/03/2024 10:05

Definitely part Teddy @LuciaPillson with all that floof

And now part cross because I put her in her crate whilst I mopped, and then have gone out
