Warm & waterproof dog walking coat

I’m on the hunt for a super warm and waterproof coat. Probably long puffer style. I have one by joules but it’s water resistant and not waterproof so I got soaked last year when out with my DS! We’ve now got a dog so more reason to be dry this winter.

Struggling to find something that isn’t £££

I'm a dog trainer so out in all weathers - it's not pretty, but flexothane classic waterproofs are 100% waterproof no matter how long you're out for (unlike every other waterproof coat I've tried 🙄). I just put it on over a normal coat/thick fleece.

Agree with those saying you generally get too hot once you’ve got going on a dog walk.

I have a Lazy Jack full length waterproof coat and it’s perfect for dog walking. Fully windproof, but not sweaty as they’re cotton lined. I used to have thick padded winter coats for standing around in the playground on school-runs, but gave them all to charity as the Lazy Jack one seems to work for just about every type of weather.

I have had mine years, bought it in TK Maxx in desperation during a very wet and windy beach holiday where we spent most days out with the dogs. Iirc, that was in 2013 and it still looks as good as new. Just had a quick look on their website and am not keen on any of the colours they have right now, but for sheer practicality and value for money, I would definitely buy another. They have a 50% off sale on at the moment.

@Papyrophile @SummerSazz @BeansOnToast32 @GCAcademic

thanks for the recommendation of Didrikson. They look ideal.

How so you find the sizing? I’m big busted but small shouldered. I note a 40 is recommended for 14 and 42 a 16. I find European sizing very confusing!

I have a Didrikson and it's amazing. Warm without looking bulky and waterproof. Can you maybe get to a shop to try one on for size? I tried mine on in Blacks and saw a few in Go Outdoors.

Another vote for the Lands’ End Squall - my best buy this year for the downpours we’ve had here, plus it’s lovely and warm.

I bought my Leya Long from New Forest Clothing because it was on offer last year and it's actually on offer now with them.

They have normal uk sizes on their site, I've just looked at my order and I got mine in a 12. It's really roomy on me could easily fit a few layers underneath but I never do because the coat is really warm. Wind isn't able to penetrate it at all and I generally just wear a short or long sleeved T-shirt underneath, you can't even get wind up the sleeves of the coat because it has second tight waterproof cuffs underneath the baggy cuffs you see in the pictures.

The NFC website states it's a relaxed fit that's on the large size. It's not the most stylish looking coat but when I was walking my dog in minus temperatures last winter I was so glad I bought it. 😂 you can zip it right up to your nose too.

@BeansOnToast32 I'm a 12 and have a 40 (Erika) which is comfy - not roomy. A 42 is probably 14- (small) 16.

I was lucky that mine fit ok without trying on!

Must be their different coats have different fits. The site I bought mine from says the Leya Long (which I have) is a "relaxed fit" with a 12 being a chest width of 57cm whereas it says the Erika is a regular fit with a 12 having a chest width of 55cm.

I hate women's clothes sizes, you would probably be best measuring yourself OP.

Sorry @BeansOnToast32, I tagged the wrong person, should have been @SurreyisSunny!

Interesting re different sizes for different styles though - or should I say 'unhelpful' of them.....
