DDg1, 5yrs, always known to have poultry allergies.

DDg2, 3yrs, always been fed on same food as older dog as its just easier.

They've been through so many food as they just go on strike and refuse to eat.

I have a new pup who I put on orijen chicken and DDg2 really liked it. So I bought her a huge bag of the adult version.

A month/6 weeks or so later she's got anal gland issues which she's never had and is non stop licking her feet

Vet reckons she's got chicken allergy too, we just never realised as she never really been fed it much because of her older bro

Plus the older dog keep nabbing chicken food from the others during meal times.

I now need to find something poultry free all 3 can go on but the pup is only 4 months old, so need puppy?

I can't have them on different foods as they all just want what they're not supposed to have 🙄

Any ideas?

The pooch and mutt one says suitable for over 8 weeks

Thanks I'll look into it.

Their current food rates around 85% on all about dog food and the pooch and mutt scores about 20% less though.

The regional red is £110 though 😭

Yeah it’s expensive.

Idrankyourbananamilk · 27/07/2023 12:27

Pet planet sell the 2kg bags for £30, and the 6kg for £70.

They work out even more expensive though. £140 for 12kg.

Theyd still eat the same amount

Yes, I just meant to see if they will eat it or turn their nose up at it! If they are fussy as my little bugger.

Theres a cat cheap equivalent of Orijen which my friend gives his, I’ll check if there is a dog equivalent from him.

Fiddlerdragon · 27/07/2023 14:44

Just feed the puppy adult food. Or vice versa. The only difference really is puppy food is slightly higher calorie, I’d concentrate on a suitable food for both rather than whether they’re branding for puppies or adults.

Idrankyourbananamilk · 27/07/2023 14:49

Ok, friend said he switched from Orijen to Acana as it’s cheaper. I’ve looked and it is cheaper but not cheap. The Ranchlands and grass-fed lamb are both suitable for puppies and adults.

Heurgh · 27/07/2023 15:05

DDog has chicken allergies so I feel your pain.

I've found Ci Dog Food is good; she (large breed) has the Salmon based grain-free one, and the small dog has the same but in small dog kibble size. When he was a puppy he had the puppy version.

Zippedydodah · 27/07/2023 15:29

I give our dog Fish4Dogs; you can get samples from them to try and they do kibble in 2 sizes (I get small for Mrs. Fussybum), as well as cans and sachets of fish.
They’re very helpful too if you have any questions.

Sorry, yes that makes sense 😅

When I had my first dog, more than thirty years ago, there wasn't puppy food around. He went straight on to a kibble. Mine is on a salmon and rice food due to chicken sensitivity - look at contents on Amazon. Autarky, Field and Trial, etc.

The acana looks good but one of the main ingredients is barley which is another of eldest dogs allergies 🙄😂

So many of them have chicken fat in too, most of the carnilove ones that claim to be ostrich etc

Canagan salmon is grain free I think (with no chicken)

RockSocks · 27/07/2023 18:24

I'm a great lover of jollyes life stage, it's not as good as many listed here but still pretty good for a kibble
They do fish ones with no chicken in them and it won't break the bank.

My previous dog was on the autarky fish and he did amazingly on that.

IngGenius · 27/07/2023 19:19

or just feed them in separate rooms.....

My downstairs is open plan. There are no separate rooms.

Why have you got another puppy when you're saying you can't afford various food options being suggested?

IngGenius · 27/07/2023 20:20

One in the garden
One in one area downstairs
One at other end downstairs with furniture between them

or maybe there is no solution at all ever no food to suit them all. This does seem to be a way bigger issue than it need to be Confused

Pushpull · 27/07/2023 20:27

Tails do a dry dog food you can buy at Sainsbury's that's grain free. I think the salmon would suit? I'm not suggesting it's the world's best food but sometimes some is better than none!

With our slightly fussy eater for kibble we have found that if we use some sprinkles (we have a cheese one or a fish skin one) a couple of times a week it seems to make things interesting

PieonaBarm · 27/07/2023 20:29

I had a terrier allergic to life basically, his food allergies were chicken, Turkey, beef, lamb, rice, pea, soy, corn and wheat. It was a nightmare to find anything that suited him but we had him on this www.platinum.co.uk/Dog/Products/Dry-Dog-Food/Adult-Iberico-Greens.html which is pork based. Most foods have rice and pea in them so it was a nightmare. Platinum do sample packs with a quick dispatch too.

When he got old and pedantic we switched him to Lily's Kitchen wet food but he could only have two flavours (mainly because of the peas tbh) but they were Great British Breakfast and Wild Campfire Stew. Lily's list all their ingredients which a lot of manufacturers don't.

I don't think you'll find a combined puppy/adult food, tbh id just give the pup the adult food in your position but obviously they're your dogs.

You have my sympathy, I miss my old boy like crazy but not his bloody allergies!!

PieonaBarm · 27/07/2023 20:34

I also emailed Platinum for advice and they replied the same day and they have a free advice line so they could be worth calling. It's a really high meat value, the dry food actually smells like human food and for a fussy terrier he was on it for about 6 years and never turned his nose up until he got old and ill and then we went soft on him 😂

I said £110 for a 11kg is ridiculous when they're are plenty of foods of the same quality for much cheaper.

I could afford it, do I want to pay it when I know I can feed them a healthy alternative for much cheaper.

It's the same reason I don't buy 'tesco finest, I feel the quality isn't proportional to the price.

All my dogs have insurance with animal friends, they all have monthly vet subscriptions, they have everything, money isn't an issue when it comes to them but I won't pay over the odds for no reason!

Thanks I'll check them out.

He's allergic to loads aswell. It's really difficult to find something with non of his allergens in.

And once I do he gets bored of it really quickly.

I can't blame him. I wouldn't want to eat the same thing everyday.

These are his allergens.

I'm waiting on results of 2nd dogs but will take a few weeks.
