Dog and beer garden

HandbagsnGladrags · 11/06/2023 13:44

Would you take your dog to sit in a pub beer garden in the temperatures we're currently experiencing in the UK? We drive there, so no walking. Healthy dog, no issues. He's in and out of the garden all day, looks for shade when he needs it.

Someone made a comment yesterday and I'm feeling a bit judged for taking him out.

we live in the dominican republic. Currently 10 am and 32 degrees. So far this morning we went to the beach with the dogs for half hour, into the car and to the grocery store where they stayed in (aircon) car with husband. Home now , door open to deck, fans going and nice and comfy inside. where are both my dogs? laying outside in the sun!! I do use a paw protector salve on their feet though. And they have a collapsible water bowl that attaches to their collar so we get them cool water where ever we go.

HandbagsnGladrags · 11/06/2023 15:04

@momager1 I guess they're used to it if you live there. Sounds lovely.

My dog is currently baking in the sun in the garden. But he'll shift himself when he gets too hot.

In the UK. Where in the UK, or rather, how hot was it? I was just out in town in jeans, a T-shirt, a hoodie and a body warmer.

@CindersAgain where abouts are you?

im SE/North Hampshire and it's reportedly 28° here but always hotter in our garden than they say for the area. I'm not complaining at all, but it's hot in shorts & vest top. But no one needs to see me in less in the garden!!

@HandbagsnGladrags I would take him. It's probably cooler there than our garden! I would not leave him in a South Facing Room, especially not a kitchen.

momager1 · 11/06/2023 15:08

@HandbagsnGladrags we only moved here three months ago from Canada, and I was very worried about them with the heat but they seem to know their limits. They only get walks early morning and right before bed.. other than that just quick pee trips out. But they still just want to lay in the sun!! crazy mutts lol

HandbagsnGladrags · 11/06/2023 15:10

@momager1 living their best lives!

We hope to retire abroad with our dog, good to hear they can adjust.

Depends on the beer garden, the one near my parents is full of shady trees you can pull the tables under and has a river running through it that he swims in, find to have them off lead

I wonder how they'd feel about me camping there all summer, sounds lovely!!

HandbagsnGladrags · 11/06/2023 14:30

Because someone made a comment to me. Like I said in my OP.

@HandbagsnGladrags who said what? & why do you feel they have a point?

Goldrushed · 11/06/2023 15:13

Hoppinggreen · 11/06/2023 14:06

No, why do you need to do that?
Its not part of his walk or anything

Why not? I take my dog with me where I can. So if I was going for a pub lunch and the dog could come of course I'd take her with me.

I probably wouldn't in 27 degree heat because even in the shade she'd be too hot. It's nice and cool in our house.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 11/06/2023 15:16

No I wouldn’t, mine are small dogs who love the sun but even in the shade yesterday (In London) it was too much for them.

momager1 · 11/06/2023 15:16

If anyone is taking their dog out in the heat (or extreme cold) Can I recommend Mushers Secret Dog Paw Wax. It protects their paws from all the elements that can either heat the walkways too much, or ice and snow. I have used it for years and swear by it.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 11/06/2023 15:17

No, not at 27 degrees.

Nap1983 · 11/06/2023 15:23

Im in Scotland so that would be freakishly hot for us! Wouldn’t take him somewhere outside to lie In That heat but would happily take him to our local pub for a drink or food inside. He’s a choc Lab though and does get warm. Don’t think it’s a one rule thing though. My friend has chihuahuas she brought from Australia and she prob wouldn’t think twice

MillbankTower · 11/06/2023 15:32

29 here
Mine is sunbathing on the patio

But why drive your dog to a pub?
Why feel the need to take the dog with you if you aren’t going to be walking?

It would be better to leave your dog at home so that other people can relax and enjoy the beer garden.

HandbagsnGladrags · 11/06/2023 15:44

@KnickerlessParsons why would people not be able to relax because my dog is there?

Yawn. Dog friendly pubs have dogs visiting. Shocker.

We never leave our dog for longer than 4hrs, so taking her out for the day with us is perfectly normal.

momager1 · 11/06/2023 15:46

INSIDE my house right now.. ceiling fans going. dogs now snoozing on bed with husband in our bedroom..door closed as the air unit is going in there lol ignore the time on my display. I do not know how to reset it lol. it is 10:46 am here

Dog and beer garden
mrssilky · 11/06/2023 15:49

yes why not, speshly if car has air con and pub garden has shade, a breeze and lots of water. if doggo would normally choose to sit in the shade/sun moving where he wants in your garden in this weather, then it's no different at a pub garden i would say.

CindersAgain · 11/06/2023 15:49

EdithStourton · 11/06/2023 15:50

I've just been out dog training. We all waited in shade as much as possible, offered our dogs water at intervals and they had all the chance of at least one swim. We did about an hour and a half and then called it a day. Mine had the option of shade at one point and decided she'd rather wait in full sun, thanx.

28C, a bit of a breeze, very fit dogs: they were all fine.

So a shady pub garden, no issue.

Dogs and pubs. Wtf? No wonder I don’t bother going nowadays

momager1 · 11/06/2023 15:52

@CindersAgain PLEASE I beg of you.. send me some of that fresh air lol

HandbagsnGladrags · 11/06/2023 15:55

Dogs in pubs are hardly a new concept.

I'm confused as to why dog haters post on a doghouse thread?

OP posts:
Tidsleytiddy · 11/06/2023 15:58

Because you mentioned beer garden

YappyCamper · 11/06/2023 16:03

MissyB1 · 11/06/2023 14:26

Yes I would, and would make sure my dog was in the shade with her own water (I take one of those portable dog water things).
Although I wouldn’t be there hours. And yes we drive our dog out to Country pubs, wonder why pp thinks that’s odd? 🤔

Probably because pubs are for people, not dogs
