Dog bed for a looong dog

We have a basset hound ans he likes to stretch out when sleeping. This is becoming a bit of a problem he takes up a 2 person sofa easily and sometimes stretches longer.

I want.to find him a bed he will be comfortable in he is not so keen on the plastic tub ones I think because he can't get over the edge. He has one with a soft edge but usually sleeps halfway out of it.

Any suggestions? I've looked at so many but it's hard to know.
Pic because I like to see the dawg in Question 😃

I've got one of these for my shepherd and he absolutely loves it! They come in all sorts of sizes too!

He might still sleep halfway out of it even with a bigger bed. We got a bigger bed as our lab was often laying half in and out of her bed, draped over the bolster sides. She does exactly the same with the bigger one!

This ^ I brought my dog a bigger bed to accommodate him as he used to sleep bum up on edge of the bed and head and shoulders lolling out on the floor, and he did the same in the bigger bed, except he had to dig the base out and scrunch it up so his bum was still up in the air.

Hi K9 hallway bed Longer than most beds.

Enko · 05/06/2023 00:36

Tnx everyone. Because he is a Basset I'd rather avoid a raised bed for him. They get back problems easily.

Seriously considering buying dh a bed for him 😀

Dogs sometimes just prefer to use beds like total weirdos.
the big dog curls up in the yorkie’s bed if she’s cold, the bichon mix doesn’t know how beds work at all, always hanging halfway out of it (maybe she likes the cushioning under her lower half and the cooler floor under her upper half?)
the bed she (lurcher, 19kg, 24” at the shoulder, very long) is stretch out in is a knuffelwuff memory foam (solid mattress, not shredded foam) orthopaedic dog bed.

Big greyhound here who definitely couldn't be contained by a bed with sides. Two single duvets in an old cover and folded in half allows him plenty of cushioning and space to sprawl.

Buy a cot mattress, will cost a heck of a lot less than a dog bed and you can buy sheets to go over it.

This is a Bella and Toby XL donut bed- with my hound failing to sleep in it! However, he does fit and,as you can see, he would also fill a 2 seater sofa.

It is soft enough to lie in, over or bundle up and drag around. All have been demonstrated by idiot hound this afternoon.

Try Kennelmate. Have used their beds for many years, in face not many beds as they last so long, but great for big dogs.

schloss · 08/07/2023 16:22

fact not face!

CMOTDibbler · 08/07/2023 19:03

We have giant George Barclay beds (one with a bolster edge, one without) for our lurchers who can fill 3 seater sofas. Currently both dogs are on our beds and dcat1 who is 18 and minute is occupying one of the dog beds

We had a couple of simple large memory foam beds, just a rectangular slab (orvis, expensive but lasted extremely well). In winter we would top with some vet bed so it was cosy.

Our dog likes to stretch out and we got him a Slumberdown Paws cushion type bed from Sleepseekers . It was really reasonably priced and has retained its thickness . We looked at some of the fluffy donut types but they all looked quite flat in the middle .

Gingerninja4 · 19/08/2023 12:03

We have one from here and they do various sizes check your measurements
We have the Jumbo and it is huge my daughter can lay in it

I got this big squishy memory foam one for our dog (who is about GSD size) when I was feeling sorry for him about his persistent limp
It wasn't dead cheap but wasn't the most expensive either. It's so comfy I'd be happy to sleep on it myself
I think we got an XL and he can sprawl full length on that but there is an even larger size.
He still prefers the sofa if he can get it mind you.
