Lab hair EVERYWHERE

What do you do about the mass amounts of shedding?

I have a mit that I use to brush her with but it's not helping.

There's black hair EVERYWHERE.

Please send suggestions.

It's a good job she's bloody cute!

Take her to the groomer for a good brush & bath... then brush 2x day.

Or just change your clothes & furnishings everything to black...

Eufy vacuum helps

Shedding blade from amazon

Furminator

Or squint a lot so you can’t see it.

Although I have to say our lab really doesn’t shed that much…. I think I have a faulty one!

Timeforachangeisitnot · 12/04/2023 20:36

@mintbiscuit me too !
I was sure this would be about a yellow. My 2 black labs are amateurs compared to the golden retriever I had previously.

get a buzz cut on her best thing I ever did

2 Labs. Hoover every day. Twice a day during moulting season. Don't let them on beds/upstairs and only on sofas when there is a throw on there. Brush thoroughly once a week. Hose down after a muddy walk which is more about mud but also lifts some of the shedding hair.

And finally swear randomly. And then promptly forgive them when they cuddle up to me.

Blooming love labs but every dog breed has a downside and that is theirs.

Shedding blade from amazon

I think I've got one these I don't know it's name . I bought it one year we were at Olympia horse show . It really is effective a removing dog hair and the birds flock to the garden for the hair for their nests 🐦.

tabulahrasa · 12/04/2023 21:45

one of those glove things won’t get to her undercoat - it’s fine for thinner coated dogs, but not labs.

you want a shedding blade or a rubber curry comb... and do it outside 😐😂

Grimeduster · 12/04/2023 21:51

I used to hoover my lab. He bloody loved it and I got the hair straight from the source.

Other than endless brushing and hoovering there's not much else you can do.

Nailsandthesea · 12/04/2023 21:53

Hoover them

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 12/04/2023 21:55

Just accept that your home and clothes are now black…

whatsyourpoison12 · 12/04/2023 22:01

you need to get her shaved

WormEater · 12/04/2023 22:03

Hoover your dog. Seriously! Mine loves being hoovered.
Sadly I live in the real world where life gets in the way and I only get a chance to hoover her every month or so, so the house has a carpet of black hair 😔

vipersnest1 · 12/04/2023 22:08

My dad used to comb his dogs out while they were on walks (labs and springer spaniels).
Earlier in the year, birds will happily take it as nesting material. Smile

You really shouldn't do this with labs. Their coats aren't meant to be cut - something to do with damaging their waterproofing. They have two coats - a topcoat and an undercoat - which keep them warm and dry. Shaving them damages the coat.

Part of having a lab is collecting enough hair from your floor to make a new dog every day... as a PP said, a robot vacuum is a godsend in keeping things relatively hair free.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 13/04/2023 20:30

You can’t shave a lab 😵.

RedRobyn2021 · 13/04/2023 20:31

I hoover everyday and I can't believe the amount of hair my lab drops

This is basically what I do!

EllaPaella · 13/04/2023 20:44

My husband ran the furminator over our black lab in the garden yesterday and some birds flew down and carried off two very large clumps of black fur, presumably for their nest 😁
I am having to hoover everyday at the moment although the worst of it seems to be over now.

pookiedoodlepuppy · 13/04/2023 20:47

@EllaPaella When grooming one our Labs in the garden we used to get so much hair from her to leave in the garden for the birds that she was nicknamed DFS 😄.

AndrexPuppy · 13/04/2023 20:48

I keep a brush in the car, just a rubber tipped Zoom Groom as it’s all he can tolerate. I have harder core brushes but he hates them, especially that bloody furminator that just seems to tug at his coat.
I use the Zoom Groom a couple of times a week which keeps on top of loose hair outside of moulting season. I use a human TangleTeezer for the final few strokes, after the Zoom Groom, during peak moult. He needs it daily when he’s shedding. The house is vacuumed daily during moulting, maybe twice a week otherwise.

He is 4 and has never been to the groomers or been shaved (other than medical reasons).

AndrexPuppy · 13/04/2023 20:51

I don’t think mine has blown his coat fully yet this year. We had a mini moult but not a biggie. I also find that a good quality diet with salmon oil helps to keep their coats in good order between moults. Obviously their hair will still have a life cycle and fall but they don’t seem to shed as much.
